This is the 2nd of 3 reviews for the NNormal Tomir trail running shoe.
We are focusing on the midsole for this review, so sit down and relax, grab a cup of tea and watch me slip and slide my way through Epping Forest.

I agree with you regarding rock plates: I want my trail shoes to have them because the trails I run are rocky and the plate protects my feet. Unfortunately, it seems the popular shoe manufacturers decided to add more stack to the midsole as their way of protecting the feet from rocks. I suppose this works on buff trails but not what I want on rocky trails, or for ultra distances. Good job on the review; I appreciate your taking on this shoe.

Thanks Joe. I wish shoe manufacturers would think about this. Even with a deeply cushioned midsole, a rockplate can still be needed. I just ran the ARC of Attrition in Cornwall in the Saucony Xodus Ultra and that has plenty of cushioning and a rock plate and I still hurt my foot on a rock, so I can't image what would have happened should the rock plate not had been there, it's a potential race ending problem. Thanks for watching and commenting, much appreciated 👍

Hi Rob, Rob Browne here 😂... Great review! Sounding like a pretty solid shoe. I mainly fell run being up in the Lakes but have tried a range of trail shoes for those runs where I need cushioning etc. I've never found that perfect balance of fit and durability which is frustrating it would be great to have a shoes which I can use for walks and trail runs which lasts more than 400km! Looking forward to your next video...

Hi Rob, Thanks for watching. I agree, it is tricky to find that perfect shoe. For the closest I have come to that is the Saucony Xodus Ultra, it is the most comfortable cushioned shoe for long distance running that I have used to date. The NNormal Tomir though is proving to be a very good shoe, just wish it had a rock plate. Thanks Rob

Rob, could you get some 'rock plate insoles'? Have you tried these?

@@orienteeringrob I have never tried rock plate insoles Rob, but I'll certainly have a look at these and see if I can get hold of a few pairs to test. Thanks

Great review, looking for a long distance trail shoe for those long training days. I was worried about this shoe feeling like the INOV-8 300 G Max with its wt and ride? As you mentioned I also am a heel striker and enjoy a softer midsole…Thanks for your advice and input…have a great week!

Do you need to size down? I had to size down a full size in the kjerag. Thanks for the detailed review!

Hey Rob, great video thanks. Could you comment a bit more on the fit of the Tomir in the midfoot and forefoot? I am wondering about toebox space for long runs/ultras and what other shoes Tomir might be similar to in terms of fit. Thanks again!

Hi Warren, The fit is quite roomy in the midfoot and toebox. I have wide feet and the shoe wraps around my foot very well, but I think the upper is flexible enough to get a good lockdown regardless if you have a wide or narrow foot shape. I'd liken it to the upper fit of the Topo Mnt Racer 2, except the Tomir has more room in the toebox. The fabrics used are very similar, thin but durable and flexible. I hope that helps. Thanks for watching. 👍 Rob
