I loved how you used that ruler to help you in showing where to quilt; no lines drawn, just an experienced quilter with a good eye for sewing a straight line and estimating how far to sew before rotating the fabric. That little pocket for silverware surprisingly dresses things up while being utilitarian and a quick project at the same time. I like this idea!

I haven't seen this method before and I'd like to try it. I have a question though - if you don't have a ruler like yours with the angles, how to measure the corners to cut off in the right place? I love the pocket addition.

How much fabric would you need for 4 placemats?

Hi Kelly. It would depend on the direction of your cuts. Suggestion: (fabric folded with selvage edges together) cut the longest edge going in the direction of raw edge to raw edge. Cut the shortest edge going in the direction of selvage edge to folded edge. Unfold the folded edge and cut the other pieces from that. I hope this makes sense. I would at least double the amount of fabric. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching, and happy sewing.
