I absolutely love these. The first car I ever sold when working in a car dealership was a used Superb so fond memories. I love that you can see right to the end of the long bonnet, throw a party in the rear and it has the hidden umbrella too. I'm sure there is a CD changer somewhere, either in the boot or under the passenger seat. The Edition 100 was beautiful too with its piano black dashboard and cream leather.

Oh sir, don't go on about light coloured leather interiors! It makes certain people a little bit too excited... I am sure that the CD changer will be somewhere in one of those places, it is definitely suitable for parties in the back, probably with champagne! The long bonnet is due to the longitudinally mounted engine, of course.

Lovely example of a Superb, remember going to Invernessfor the weekend and I was quite excited to jump in one being used for a Taxi. I do like my Skodas.

Great review MR Lloyd, yes save up and get a Superb but the MK2. Even more leg room and equipment. The MK2 was where Skoda really did beat the Passat in every area.

I do like the Mark II, sir. It's just a bit too big for what I need (as is this one to be honest). The comfort and value for money offered by both is astounding, really.

@@lloydvehicleconsulting Yes value and comfort is a big part of the Superb appeal. The size thing on the MK2 is made worse with a manual gearbox. Well you never know, I'm still looking out for my perfect spec model, which is very hard to find. It's pre facelift 2012 L&K Magnetic Brown Metallic with brown leather interior, DSG 170 all extras. Can I find one nope! came close in Brimingham but it was already sold.

They were a nice car, particularly the V6 petrol. From my experience having previously worked at a Skoda dealer they were generally very reliable. One thing to watch out for is water ingress as this can cause serious electrical problems with convenience ECU which is mounted on the floor under the front seat.

Thank you ever so much indeed, Nick! Yes, the later Rover 45s have a similar ECU issue, also caused by water ingress. Not sure it would be that easy to change the cambelt on one of these V6 petrols, but I absolutely loved driving it anyway!

Quite a rare model there Joseph, and I suppose a beige leather interior would just lift things. I would imagine it's hard to find a petrol version as most were powered by an alternative fuel. That umbrella storage area is very pleasing.

Yes, we do really need a beige leather interior to appreciate one of these properly, but they are so rare that this will do nicely. Most were indeed powered by the forbidden fuel, but we don't talk about those on this channel, do we, sir?

Excellent car could drive to the Moon and back in this Spaceship. Over here most of these MK1 V6s were Grey, Dark Grey or Dark Blue with no dealer plates or sticker, no towbar and always 2 or more burly chaps with epaulettes inside. Nice but not always welcome in the rear view mirror. Thank you very much Sir.

Why don't you discuss diesels? Anyway, I saw a video from you when i was looking into the Fabia. Do you know if these models have a chain or normal belt. I got caught out with a 2003 Honda Legend that was a cam belt quoted at 1K to change because they have smaller belts that keep the engine smooth. I knew about the Lexus LS400 being v8 and had the normal belt, but wrongly assumed that was an aberration.

Blame the Mayor of London and all his friends around the country with their Ultra Low Emission and Clean Air Zones. Not sure about this V6, I am afraid... Yes, Hondas often have a belt for the balancer shaft as well as the main cambelt.

I had a 2004 diesel one of these last year. Was very fast, think it was the “comfort” spec. And it was that, like driving around on a couch.

They are extremely comfortable, aren't they? The V6 was nice and swift, not the best in terms of handling, but that isn't the point!

It's crazy to think how much money these are worth around 17 years later given their specification. There are loads available for No Budget Reviews money, I think that this one is worth a little bit more, but still not an outrageous sum. Glad you enjoyed the video, sir!

Lovely cars, it's a shame they never done a VRS version using either the 2.7 Biturbo engine out of the c5 A6 2.7T/B5 S4 or the 4L W8 out of the Passat. People went mad for VRS stuff in this era and I think it would have sold well.

I think the Octavia vRS probably served the needs of most people looking for a sporting Skoda as a family car, and this is why they did not release a vRS version of the Superb, much as we would have liked to have seen one, probably with that 4.0 W8 engine, as you say!

I must say I am thoroughly surprised! Its headlamps remind me of the Volkswagen Phaeton, yet the rest of the body is pure Passat! Ski 🎿 sack is very nice, and I do believe those rear seats fold down to create an even larger usable space! The dials are the only difference between this Superb and the Passat. Even two of the engine choices (1.8T and 2.8 V6) are offered even in the same US Passat! Yes, excellent value for money 💷! And another absolutely brilliant review! Just keep that finger from clicking on the buy option now!

That's right, not a huge different between this and the contemporary Volkswagen Passat from 2004. The ski bag and the umbrella in the armrest are just some of the typical little touches which Skoda call "Simply Clever". The Superb has a longer wheelbase than the Passat,a and therefore more room in the back, but the engines are really similar, as you say. Don't worry, I managed not to buy it when I was down there...

Seat folds down only in superbs 2005+ facelifted models deffinitelly have them. The good thing when you dont have folding seats is that you have really sturdy chasi of the car

I used to have the VW Passat 1.8T Sport 99T &Passat 1.9TDI 130bhp 4motion 2003 B5&B5.5 based on Audi's A4 with Longitudinal engines. I loved my Passats kept my 2003 for over 5 year's&liked the mk1 Superb.

Superb by name, superb by specification. No disguising it's Passat origins but I expect much better equipped pound for pound. I actually considered second and third gen cars as when I ordered my MK3 Octavia VRS it was around the time the superb was changing over to MK3. I'm sure one of the later cars was a Chinese market Audi A6 LWB underneath. The thinking mans VAG car

Yes, it was very tempting when I was visiting Simon... However, I managed to keep a firm hand on my wallet and didn't end up buying it. The equipment in this one is really good, and a nice Laurin and Klement would be even better. You are probably right about the Chinese market Audi connection on later cars. The main reason why I haven't bought one is due to the fact that it is just a bit big for what I need...

A bargain, prefer current design language and I’d probably opt for a Phaeton, mind you this looks very much Passat - no mistaking a lot of car for the money, thank you Joseph

value for money are these cars, and a lot of car for the money!...............................but heavy oil cars were the best sellers and as you know we are banned from talking about that on this channel!! (may be when the lockdown is completely lifted the ban on this taboo subject will be lifted as its quite a draconian ban)!!!

Since the very first video on the channel three years ago, we have had the rule in place, sir, and particularly with the recent increase in the number of Ultra Low Emission and Clean Air Zones, it is not going to change.
