It is time for the newest instalment in that beloved cinematic automotive RU-vid experience where we film practical cars that can be bought for less than £1,000 in a manner befitting of their inexpensive value! This may go horribly wrong (and frequently does)...
This time, as we test a 2001 Fiat Seicento 1.1 SX, I suddenly feel a fair bit of inspiration from Mr Miller from the Miller Corner channel ( / millercorner , drive along the South Circular in London, enter the Ultra Low Emission Zone, avoid paying a toll, keep mixing up the Cinquecento and Seicento, deal with some very noisy wiper blads and I drone on about very little of any importance at all. A neighbor a few doors away has the Michael Schumacher special edition in yellow. My mother in law had one and four of us drove down to Devon for the day from the Midlands down the M5 twenty years ago, my brother in law drove and er hum I'm ashamed to say he was toping the max speed all the way! It was fun though but you wouldn't get away with it now with all the smart motorways and increased traffic. Good review, they are basic but fun in a good way.

Glad you enjoyed the video, sir! Yes, I am sure that you managed to get a good turn of speed in the Seicento Schumacher Edition... You are right about the changes in motorway enforcement, the cameras would definitely have stopped your fun these days!

I was car hunting back in July 2002, had a budget of £5k and stopped at my local Fiat dealers. Salesman there said that I could have a new Seicento S for £4995 (or one from their stock one that had had been registered). I was sorely tempted. Would have been a suitable replacement for my ageing 1990 Mini Racing Green. However, I really wanted a supermini so bought a SEAT Ibiza instead.
@lloydvehicleconsulting
@lloydvehicleconsulting 2 года назад
Yes sir, the Ibiza is a very different sort of prospect from one of these, I would have thought! Crazy to think that you could get a brand new one of these for less than £5,000 twenty years ago.

What a pleasant surprise. The forgotten Seicento. The little Cinquecento was a fabulous little car that handled really well and was very reliable. The Seicento took that starting point and brought it right up to date. Spritely because its light and almost as easy to park as a Smart. Don't know what happened the FIRE engine in the Punto Mk1 because in the Uno and the Panda it was very trustworthy. Oh Sir, those wheel trims are straight off my 1990 Fiat Panda Sergio Tacchini Special Edition with the 1.0 litre Fire engine, 5 speed and the beautiful green interior. Really miss that Panda. If you get a chance, Sir, try one. The carried on until 1994 and the last of the line CLX actually received that 1.1 Fire engine. Would love one of those.
@lloydvehicleconsulting
@lloydvehicleconsulting 2 года назад
Oh sir, the Mark II Panda actually continued through Cinquecento and Seicento production right up until 2003! Not over here, of course... The FIRE engine was well known for blowing head gaskets in the late 1990s, and Mr Miller also confirms this in his buyer's guide. Yes, very easy to park and only 730 kg. The wheel trims are indeed off a Mark II Panda, I will take your word for it about the particular special edition.

Thanks for coming up! Something very pure about the Seicento's back to basics approach, especially with its unpretentious styling. Definitely has flaws-not least *that* crash test-but it's a great ULEZ compliant runaround and worth buying while prices are still at rock bottom. (Cinquecento prices have been creeping up for a while now.)

I have 2cinquecentos now a 900s and a 1100 sporting as projects really. The 900 is on the road now but the sporting has head gasket issues. I think I'll never sell the 900 as it's really basic and just appeals to me more. Bought both of them for about 45euro each 4 years ago and you can't get one now for less than 1500euro here in Ireland it seems. I couldn't afford them when new and always liked them so I bought them and they go on classic insurance. Love driving them and tinkering on them.
@Matt-jt1ic

@@terryatkinson3182 Love a Cinquecento! Quite a few were up for sale in London late last year because of the expansion of ULEZ, and I would have loved to snap one up, but unfortunately I couldn't buy one for the same reason they had to sell :(

Never had one of these but I do buy the odd bit from scrap yards as the bits fit my cinquecento. Fiat use the same parts for donkeys years and parts are interchangeable with many models. A new radiator is 20euro from Poland 🤗

Yes, very similar underneath to the Cinquecento from what I understand. As I mentioned in the review, that OHV engine dates back to 1955, doesn't it? I am sure that there are still millions of these around in Poland and other places on the Continent!

Great review, my god this is a basic car.. less to go wrong I suppose and perfect for London … Very ably demonstrates the nonsense of ULEZ that doesn’t fully consider the cost of scrapping old / building new vehicles and that cities are doing their own thing with no alignment in the name of the environment…
@lloydvehicleconsulting
@lloydvehicleconsulting 2 года назад
Yes, there is definitely a need to reduce pollution if we can, but maybe forcing to scrap perfectly functioning cars with relatively clean small capacity engines is not necessarily the way to go about it. I didn't mention it at the time, but this doesn't even have a temperature gauge!

I love these little cars, I had a silver Y reg one about 3 yrs ago, that too was a 1.1 SX, I paid a mere £200 for it with 3 months MOT. Fun to drive, cheap to run, very “fizzy” rev happy engine. A rarity to see a Surviver that's not a sporting or in some way modified. Just a good honest car. My Aunti did own a yellow sporting which I drove to the end of our street and back a very quirky little car. Didn't really get the fascination at the time but I can see why they are now gaining a following.

I am not sure my drive in the Seicento yesterday was forgettable, in fact it was far from it, as they seem to have quite a lot of character, as did the Cinquecentos. I thought those were Panda wheeltrims. Oh these take me back. One of my friends got a Seicento Mia (basically an S) brand new as his first car and it took do much punishment. Like me he was a bigger chap, but also taller so he looked like Donkey Kong in Mariokart when he drove it. Great little things for nipping around in but I agree. Those pedals are really close together. My mother's Cinquecento was the same and many a time I clipped the accelerator when trying to brake. Looks like a great example though and I really like the colour

Yes, Panda Mark II wheeltrims, sir! The base specification Seicentos are quite rare, as most ended up being Sportings. I felt tall enough in this, goodness knows what it is like for people over six foot. The pedals are ridiculously tiny, but I managed! The colour is brilliant.

I had one of these as a courtesy car back in the late 90s. I must had have the Fiat Bravo at the time. When I was driving I kept getting the feeling I was being followed. Aha. Bought. A4C NWP. Newport. 225 GBP in Dec. Sold Jan 825 for 75 off. A sub 40,000 mile 1.1 Active, 2003. And you know I remember most details all my cars last 6-12 months. Couldn’t remember mileage exact. Nor trim level. Did engine and price paid. As a trader you remember the important bits. Forgetting the trim level even the plate 52 or 53 or 03 and mileage. Could have been 28k 38k. Usually I know. Only bought Nov. This was one forgettable Fiat . I drove it back to to Cheshire. 255 cost all in, 825 back. Another bread butter turn around. I’ve had in entire car trade 17 years 3-5 of these. Would like to have traded 20-30 or more but literally don’t exist. They drive errrrrr. Sketchy. The MK1 KA is a sweetheart. These things remind me of mountain goats. The Turin motorway. And Silsley 4x4 Pandas. They suit Italians. And the UK didn’t buy them. They don’t drive good enough. Just errrr don’t. Really queer way they steer. The tight pedal box. The non existent dashboard and the sound insulation. They’re like a 500 worse. But prettier. . Queer driving position. Everything is very odd. Nothing normal. Maybe cars in 50s were like this but may late 90s cars were mega and the 600 Fiat truely borderline awful for our UK home market. But cute front end. Ok rear. side profile well not pleasing to a camera . I’m an Italian FAN, but maybe the 600 one of the least liked. No. Is. It’s just got to soul/fun/anything. I literally get a sex wee about an Alfa 147. Always did. Never more than today. The 600 is close to dreadful. But cute. Cheap. And a death trap. Am I being harsh on the 600. I’ve never been able to spell Siecento unless on google on a laptop . I’d buy one for stock tomorrow. Like as many as can. They sell slow. I couldn’t own one , tho !!!!!!!!
