Turn the key, .. lights and gauges work but nothing happens? No crank situation. This problem will get you towed.. . here is a simple fix for someone out there!
I honestly cannot thank you enough. This happened to my 2005, towed it to the shop and they quoted me $3,000 to fix it, if they could even get the part. He suggested I just junk the car. That didn't feel right to me. I came across your video and sure enough, that was the problem. I feel like the weight of the world has been lifted off my shoulders. Thank you again!
2007 Focus sedan 2.0L. Quit on highway, towed home (my brother's car) No crank same symptoms you mentioned. I went through all the pertinent fuses with my VOM. Found this same fuse blown. I looked around engine compartment and saw this wire you speak of broken laying on the mount bracket. I didn't know if this was just happenstance or the problem. Thank you, now I have confidence that this will be a permanent fix. I have had much trouble getting the wiring diagrams I need for this car and couldn't convince myself that this radio suppression capacitor was the trouble. Thanks again.
Just had our son's 2007 Focus with 150K miles "die" today backing in to a parking space about twenty minutes from home. We're thankful he wasn't out on the road when the car shut down! Anyway, I went and got him, came home and got on RU-vid and found your video. I had planned on having it towed tomorrow morning to a local shop. But after seeing this video, despite fading daylight, I grabbed some tools and we set sail for the car. SURE ENOUGH BOTH (!!!) of the wires coming out the FM capacitor's plastic "box" were out...both the 12V and the ground. And...yep, the 20 amp maxi-fuse was blown. I just taped up both wire ends, replaced the fuse and the 'ole girl fired right up. And there was no difference in how his radio sounded! For as cheap as it is, I'll just replace the original capacitor. But I just wanted to say thanks for saving me a tow bill and a repair bill!
This video just help me. Back into spot a hotel 7 hrs away from home and watched 4 videos yours was last one. I walked to gas station and was able to start car back up for $6.35. Thankful your a blessing.
Brother!!! This just fixed my car. I'm out in Mexico 🇲🇽 . No mecanic around. Sunday morning I was freaking out. I went to wyotech and remembered that was one of the things they taught us power issues go down the fuse box. As I seen a few of video. Including Scott Kilmer one of my favorites I came across your channel as you were speaking and removing the fuse #8 for the key ignition I also removed mine and changed it for a spare. And waaala!!!! I am so thankful sir thank you so much. Got another subscriber and ill be recommending you for a long time.
wow this is great content . had this same problem of this Engine management fuse burning out never knew why and had to put in stronger wires to connect the fuse. Now at least i can say i know what to check out as the cause
@@RuKuaj lol it was pretty hard bro i used pliers too when i pulled it out the fuse kind of broke but it was burnt already so i just bought a new fuse & just dont break anything else lol try not to at least
Awesome was looking for this. Had the same fuse go out but was testing fine it was together just enough to read good. Also the same wire bracket broke as well so i screwed it back together and fixed. Two thumbs up
That is great news and the reason I made the video! I was at a client's 5 miles from home and pulling a full trailer when this happened completely out of the blue. Had to get towed before later on finding the solution. Appreciate the feedback
My focus died going down the road and then would'nt even crank over, i could,nt figure it out till i watced this video, sure enough the wire was broken off on the radio capacitor and shorted out and blew the 20 amp fuse. Thank You Soo Much For The Video, That Fixed It!!
I was driving my 2006 ford focus and it died..towed it back..had blown 20A #9 fuse..tried to start and got dashes on odometer..I look at saw that my bracket on radio capacitor ground broke and was hanging..I replaced the fuse still doing the same thing dashes in odometer..I replaced the battery still doing same..you think i need to replace the radio capacitor?? or do i just find a new place to ground the capacitor? can you help..my pcm relay is clicking but still dashes in odometer
In my case it was the uninsulated 12v wire touching the frame that blew the fuse. Did you repair/wrap the 12v line (broken /insulation) and make sure it won't short? The R Capacitor itself is irrelevant an can be left unplugged if you want. Its for radio static noise reduction. The fuse is the last step because you could blow it again unless you disconnected the battery when repairing the line. Did you dbl check the fuse afterward? @@lawnstarsnola7030 my wires look fine..i took a light tester I am getting power at the connection to the R capacitor..my 20A #9 has power..but nothing still dashes and no start I have lights..what do you think? i checked all my grounds they look good
@@dl-ni3nt I recommend you pull the 20a fuse and ohm it out or get a visual look at it. Read what Scott Sanders said above about his fuse. Don't assume its good without checking it! Also that link I posted for you references a actual mechanic saying look at the power hold relay, its in the fuse box I assume but it supplies power to a lot of places, and at least two in the PCM. Wish I could help more but that's all I got!
I bought a new 20A fuse at autozone still same thing..i switched pcm and fuel pump relay with high beam relay still nothing..im going try jumper wire starter relay tomorrow see if car starts

Hey friend! So hope you already got this fixed. I would have said- If it worked before you pulled the stereo then check for that blown fuse and/or pinched or bad wire. Tech lightning, it strikes us all at some point and sooo we learn!
