He's not telling you what you need. He is singing about what he is passionate about and hoping to help people out there who feel the same way to be happy with the way they feel. You are not being forced to listen if you do not want too.
I think that is how most people feel at every level. Talking politics has this way of rousing people up and it causes them to question each other credentials!
The title of this video is rather misleading, I don't feel like Tim said anything really even overtly political, at least not in the sense that he was expressing a view or telling anyone how they should think. He sounded to me like he was talking mostly about how his own views and feelings about modern issues relate to his music, and how you don't necessarily need an extensive background in political science in order to be passionate or have thoughts and feelings about those issues.
