Martin 'Oz' Austwick was a founder member of HEMAC (The Historical European Martial Arts Coalition), is an Instructor with the British Combat Association, and is certified to Level Three under the Scientific Wrestling programme. He has trained under such wrestling greats as Billy Robinson, Wade Schalles, Marty Jones, and Roy Wood.

Very interesting!We Japanese pro-wrestling fans are so glad to hear 'Catch as catch can' from UK.The words of 'Catch as catch can' ,'Lancashire style wrestling', 'Wigan' 'Billy Riley Gym'etc.,we learned from Karl Gotch-san, who has been the mentor of many Japanese pro-wrestlers. Those reminds me the UWF, my best favorate pro-wrestling promotion in 1980s.Thank you very much Jake-san, womatv-san, and ARIGATOU Josh-san. And I'm sorry my poor English.

Billy Robinson lived next door. Billy took the train 30 miles to be coached by Billy Riley in a schack. I think Billy had a role in coaching Josh and Sakuraba.

Billy was found dead in bed 2 years ago. He spent most of the last 1/3 of his life coaching in Japan. At one time he KNEW he could beat anyone in the world. Whether that was true or not I don't know but he was confident.

Catch Wrestling is the hidden martial art that I see black belts jujitsu instructors slowly gleaming and adding to their game. I f you're a MMA fighter, you'll be wise to make Catch Wrestling a big part of your game or suffer its results by being on the tactical end of Catch Wrestling.

what about UP WRESTLING ? there is a shortage of GRECO ROMAN wrestling ! furthermore muay thai clinch is very related to greco clinch. however there is an over supply of floor diver - leg grabbers.

Wrestlers of all types (catch greeco college etc)seem 2 b physically stronger men than those who practice any other fighting method.. there r exceptions . but as a rule just seems that way .. they have earned respect they deserve from me n the full contact fighting realm .. N fact I would rather compete against someone from pure jujitsu background than a pure wrestling background if i was 2 compete rt mow ... I have trained n competed ( granted amateur level) with grapplers of many backgrounds n this is my observation...

Try to find a luta livre school ia a atyle came from catch but also have guard, bjj no gi is luta livre with bjj ruleset and some moves and philosophy

It's good to Catch promoted, but people should know that it never died. It simply turned into freestyle wrestling practiced in high schools, colleges/universities and of course the Olympics. The submissions and compression holds were taken out for safety reasons. That's all. All you have to do is read up on how freestyle developed. There's an interview with Matt Furey by Chris Onzuka saying that Karl Gotch considered collegiate wrestlers Catch wrestlers, and Furey himself includes folk wrestling as simply amateur wrestling, meaning some holds were prohibited and participants didn't get paid. These are the few differences between Catch as talked about here and freestyle or folk.
