"Bernardo Faria is a 5x World Champion. Bernardo started training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Juiz de Fora - MG, Brazil at the age of 14 in 2001. After receiving the Black Belt from his first instructor Ricardo Marques in 2008, He moved to Sao Paulo to join BJJ legend Fabio Gurgel and his Alliance team. After many years of training and winning many major titles, Bernardo moved to NYC in 2013 to train and teach at Marcelo Garcia Academy. I love how the Brazilian coach is so excited about cradling. He very humbly admits he has never saw cradles and approaches the whole issue with a white belt enthusiasm. Great guy! And special thanks for the Catch wrestling coach for sharing an awesome wrestling technique with us. He showed a basic cradle, which wrestlers use all the time, but explained it in so many small details on how to make it tighter and better. Great stuff. Thank you so much.

CACC is bullshido. Why not just learn cradles, or any wrestling technique for that matter, from an actual wrestling coach? Not saying Neil isn't legit but he's not a CACC in the literal sense that he doesn't trace his lineage to any prowrestling roots. CACC is basically prowrestling but re-packaged as a real martial art. As for Neil, he came from Hayastan. They don't teach CACC over there.

My grandfather taught me catch as catch can wrestling, savate, la cane, and la baton from 1993 to 1997 when he died, prior to that the only thing I knew about wrestling was WWF, which I knew as entertainment; and what he taught me looked nothing like it, I only knew wrestling as a martial art & entertainment until I found out it was a sport by watching the Olympics. There are wrestling textbooks with the name catch as catch can wrestling from 1800s.

Ghost Jockey , look up gene lebell. Gene is CACC as they come. Gene teaches at Hayastan and in fact was one of two men responsible for formulating Hayastan grappling, in fact he taught Gokor when Gokor was a teen. Don't be a jabroni.

Great details that will strengthen your cradle. Like his quote, 'they're mean, brutal, not technical but they work.' Sometimes the simplest techniques are the best.

I’ve always used the cradle for transitioning, especially to set someone up for a knee bar. I’m glad I saw this. I believe the cradles have always been under appreciated. Tito Ortiz did a cool near side cradle on Guy Metzger long time ago in one of the old UFCs. He did well in controlling guy for most of the fight, until he got submitted in the end.

Great for tall people or those with long extremities. This is one of the systems I used that works well with grapplers who like to play deep half or leg lock hunters.

Finding some good success with this progression. I appreciate the detail you share as I’m seeing things I miss. Today was getting the cradle but not applying enough chest pressure because my knees were on the mat. Felt them start to get to their knees when I didn’t give enough chest pressure. Haven’t got through to the back yet but I like the results so far. Thanks for sharing!

the last leg position when you pin the bottom side thigh is like a milestone as it takes great base and strength to keep it balanced enough to start thinking about a cradle/seatbelt thing for working toward a back take

What causes the opponent to curl up when you get the initial arm drag? A one handed arm drag is not going to force someone to curl up like that is it?

How do you release your back knee from his half guard?

Juan Pablo Caicedo I use this position a lot so I shin staple their bottom leg (I try to pin it at the knee/thigh) with my outside leg then turn my hip out like a knee cut. It can be a fight so I try just as hard to free my leg as my opponent might to try and clamp it in. I find this approach depending on the size of the guy (I’m 97KG) gives me a high success rate. There are loads of options and attacks after you pass..there’s also Guillotines and the Hand gun choke str8 away if you lose balance and he rolls you as long as you keep the head grip tight and switch your hand grips properly. Were it not for the rough history between these two styles, we might have synthesized them much earlier. Now everything gets to be co-opted by BJJ players and get called BJJ, one erasing the history of the other.

Keep it simple. watch a lot of videos go to class, roll, stay injury free be patient and you'll get there. Be humble and always tap early, let go of submissions if your partners are hard heads and don't tap.

when the thigh is brought to the chest the hamstring is pre-stretched, meaning it will be too short to allow the knee to even fully extend unless you're gymnast level flexibility, kneebar is trying to hyperextend the knee once it's already straight. This move would make you tap just from the hamstring stretching before the knee could straighten.
