So funny, I went to a rehearsal space last night that had and Emad on the kick and it just confirmed everything I was saying here. Absolutely horrible mushy sound and feel!

Hey, you like what you like man. No offense taken on my end! My comment came from the point of view of previously not like emad heads either. Once I figured them out I do tend to preach them a bit because I think they don't always get the credit they deserve. Similar to hydraulic heads, a lot of people think they turn your drums into "cardboard boxes" but with the right tuning and different approach they can be exceptional. But again, you like what you like and that is why there are so many different awesome heads out there! I don't like Remo and think their quality control is a joke, that comment gets me hammered by the drumming community constantly.

Same thing happened with me and Remo. I feel like they used to be great but quality has dropped off. The regular Ambassadors seem to be good though still, but faced with the option I’ll get a G1

@@demonicsweaters you mentioned g1 and g2 on your snares, you should try a g12 one time. It's a thicker single ply head so you get some of the durability and focus of the g2 with the playability and open tone of a g1.

@@demonicsweaters Tbh I think Remos are designed and still produced today for vintage bearing edges. If you are playing drums with a modern sharp 45 degree bearing edge, not the rounded/30 degree vintage style, Evans just excel way out in front. I haven't played Remos on batters in years though because I have Sonors with 45 degree edges. I do currently use ebony ambassadors on the resos of toms but its Evans everywhere else. I just got a 16" tom and put a G2 and G1 on it though, the ebony ambassadors was mostly for a look on stage, I'd rather save money on tom head packs now.

@@anotheryoutubed I don't know about that, 45 degree edges have been around for a very long time. I never had an issue with remos as far as sound goes. But the last set of Emperors I got dented up like crazy in a single show. Also, the coating on the coated heads wears through insanely fast these days.

I have a 16x14 floor tom converted to mini kick. I currently have 4 batter heads im trying out - remo powerstroke 4, emad bass 16 for tom, evans hydro, and a coated g2. What would you go with?

Hydraulics are always my goto on small kicks. Just don't port it if possible and you get way more low end. You usually don't need much muffling either. On my 18x7 I have a very small pillow that I removed most of the stuffing from, and the 14x10 I don't use anything.

@@AP530 I don't know, I generally haven't had good luck with remo for years now, so I never buy them. Maybe the G2 with a pillow?

Congrats on the success of your restoration drum video! I’ve seen people on RU-vid get angry over someone disliking a brand of butter. If you had to recommend one bass drum mic for getting that distinct kick sound, what would it be?
