Kevin, that is an awesome waterer. You did good. Thank you for sharing. Have a Blessed Day **HUGS & PRAYERS** from Kelly and critters at Piney Haven Homestead.
Headed out your direction in a couple weeks. We are headed to Miami, Oklahoma for my wife's grandfather's 75 bday. He was the one that showed me the smoked bologna and in turn I showed him smoked chicken wings. Man I smoked bologna for a bunch of different get togethers and now there is a bunch of hoosiers smoking bologna now. My buddy smokes about everything... smoked hot dogs, corn and chicken wings rock ..finish the wings off with a little bbq sauce man they are delicious
Great design Kevin, nice and stream lined....neat as a pin, easy to maintain. I hope the new water system works out for your Quail. The cage is really fine too...I like your setup. Just an older former homesteader enjoying the folks as yourselves coming up, raising all sorts of things for home grown rewards...lots of new ideas and methods, something for everyone to adapt to their own homesteads. I really enjoy your videos. Thanks for sharing all of your activities and designs too, on your Homestead. God Bless..... Ken Orlando, Fl., USA
Will be ordering the supplies I need in a couple days, so will have to come back to this vlog to order them. Thanks Again Kevin. Give the family a hug for me. Blessings be with you.
Kevin... Great idea!.... Excellent tutorial! Quick and dirty calculations for the water in 3" pipe is about 46 ounces (third gallon), 4" about 60 ounces (half gallon) & 6" about gallon and a half per foot. Maybe a 1" ball valve in cap on the sump drain? No chance of leaking.
@@HiddenHeightsFarm I was concerned about after a few times on and off then the the plastic threads start to wear and stretch retightening plug each time. Those plugs were like you said were for above ground sewer cleanouts with no pressure. If it was on top not too much worry but on bottom with 2' of water head pressure on it may have to teflon it each time you drain it. If there's a way out water will find it following the threads even with low pressure.... lol
You always do good work! I’m a little surprised you didn’t need to angle the feeder tube to assist gravity, but I can assure you I’ve NEVER made a quail waterer!! Way to go!!
Man that quail cage is exactly what I needed for my bird's and the right size . I especially like it when you said the free range chickens would eat the spillage from the food. Great video. New Subscriber
Looks great! Might have to put foam pipe insulation on there during colder days. You mention us sending you quick videos of things we've learned from you or other systems we use...I'd love to see a compilation of subscriber videos if you get enough to put together for us. Thanks for putting out great videos Kevin!
I would love to see people putting this together for areas that get lots of ice and snow 40below might push it for automatic watering system.... But I'm really interested in keeping the water from freezing.... We need to change the rabbits water a few times a day when maybe if it's flowing and heated it won't freeze
I like the watering system you built. Nice job. You might think about adding a valve or a screw plug at the end of the line so you can drain the water out in the winter to keep it from freezing and bursting the pipe. Enjoyed the video.
Hi Kevin & Rachel, I made waters for my stack cages like the ones Dutch made for his quails. A long with diy feeders out plywood. Thanks for sharing another great video. You guys take care and best wishes
Plumbers tape is what you need for the reservoir. It comes in rolls about 3/4" wide and 10' long. It has holes about every inch or so for screws or nails.
Great design Kevin! Will have this video as a reference if i ever decide to raise some quail. Thanks! As much as i like eating quail it might happen eventually!
What a great idea. I like your idea of not using and 5 gallon bucket and the clean out valve. For your heating needs in the Winter you might look into a submersible aquarium heater. You can completely submerge them and hook up your electric cord to your power source. Eheim Jager Aquarium Heaters work really well and I have two of them. They would definitely fit in your tube where you put the main water source. They come in multiple sizes according to how many gallons of water you are maintaining at a certain temp. The only part that might be a problem might be the water nipples unless you use some form of insulation. Otherwise it would work.
Great idea for tank, and yes smallest part of valve (1/4") will freeze first unless water is circulated past valve. Cold drops and heat rises in stagnant system. In aquarium water is constantly circulating.
Check out Frostex... Cut to length, waterproof, self regulating, low power heat tape. I've used it before but different applications. Kept small pond from freezing solid in Jersey and made 'hot rocks' for terrariums, gluing couple feet to bottom of a flat stone without temp controller for critters to lay on when they got cold . Maybe fish it thru full length of pipe.
Y a i like that set up. i did something off a well setup but instead of a cap at the end. I made my cap treaded so if we got very cold i could remove cap and drain water out so i didn't spit the pipe. i also install a fish tank water heater in my water containers i use during the winter. Thanks for the info.
Does this help prevent freezing I think I have a fish tank heater or 2 kicking around.... We don't have well water but I also have a water pump or two kicking around too??
@@wildedibles819 our temps in the winter is around 20-30. when i used the fish tank heater my water never froze. now the heater must be all the way in the water tank. if the heater is out of the water heater will fail.
Hello. My name is Debbie. Do u glue the pipes? If u glue them they shouldn't leak. Me and my husband have been doing alot of plumbing lately since we are reminding our bathroom. Some times if u primer them before glueing it helps Some times it seems to not help. It's something you'd just have to test out. Once u glue it its there if it leaks you'd have to cut that part off and get more fittings to make it fit or start over. I'm not trying to sound rude or a know it all. Just been helping my husband alot lately and learning. Hope everything goes the way u want it to. Have a great day.
Very good design, easy enough for anyone to follow. As for the cut, Papa Bruce is always getting cut and drawing blood. We joke that the farm gods need his blood sacrifice everyday. Once that has been fulfilled, we can get on with the chores. lol
If you put a hole in the reservoir near the bottom, and make it so you can attach some clear tubing to it, then run the tubing up the outside of the reservoir to the top, then you would have a visual indicator of the water level. To make it even more easily visible drop a tiny colored ball that floats down the clear tube. I used to do this with 1500 gallon stainless steel apple juice tanks so I didn't have to climb to the top to see how much juice was in it.
Kevin Teflon tape goes on ,so that the threads tighten the tape as you screw it in .. in other words , apply the tape in the opposite direction that you did.. yeah it matters ..
If you used a 5 gallon bucket and have power near, you could always put a small aquarium heater and powerhead in the bucket to keep the water from freezing in the winter.
Great idea for tank, but smallest part of valve (1/4") will freeze first unless water is circulated past valve. Cold drops and heat rises in stagnant system.
@@Tribulation_Harvest Right, but that means starting from scratch in spring. if he puts a heat lamp and maybe just some of the foam insulation around the pipe might be enough.
Hammerslap the nozzles will freeze in winter. The heat lamps help but not in really cold conditions. Being outside brings on a whole lot of issues with his set up. So by him not raising them in winter will save him time in long run.
Great tutorial...good details and your tips/hints, like that pex pipe cutter was smart! Hey, just noticed your OK accent is not like Daniel's or Dutch's.
I now live in Thailand Where we have to drink bottled water I was going to tap into the mains To get water for the quails But if the water is not ok for us to drink Do you think the quails with be ok drinking it or not
Looks good. I tried those type of cups but I had some problems. First some of the quail never got the hang of it or just weren't able to peck it hard enough. Then I'd go out and it would be dry. Then second the quail would climb on them and make all the water run out make a mess and none would have water. So I changed to a different style and solved both problems. Check it out on my channel if you want. Nothing fancy on the videos just documenting what we've done on ours.
Here is a link to a video if you have problems with those cups. Got mine off eBay cheap. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KSi7IBsVnwI.html
