Much more stylish than the standard flying bases. Given GW's love of arcrobatic poses and tactical "furniture", you would have thought this was the way they should have been in the first place. Lovely outfit and matched perfectly with the sisters.
I'd guess the reason they aren't done like this out of the box is the 'boing' factor. Celestine and her Geminae are held up by streams of parchment which are entirely plastic, but when painting them they tend to bounce around like crazy because the plastic is so thin and flexible. This method is obviously a lot more rigid.
These look pretty good...still gives the effect of flying. I don't care for the ones people do off the side of ruins or whatever, looking like they're doing parkour instead of flying. These are nice.
When you're rolling out the green stuff you can roll it out between two sheets of baking/parchment paper to get it really thin. The paper is impregnated with silicone so it won't stick to the putty. This is great for capes and cloaks too.

Very cool. I did something similar with some harlequins and a vox unit for my Master of the Rights. Long, dragging scrolls and purity seals are perfect for grimdark floaty things.
Those look really good! I based mine using chunks of rubble and plastic I-Beam and pipes. The rest of my sisters use city ruins terrain so I thought it turned out pretty good. Though these look incredible
I did something similar myself way back in the day with my eldar jet bikes, wire and cotton wool to look like dust / smoke. I've always hated the flying stands.
Those mini’s look really triumphant and graceful with those ribbon style supports. How did you make the stones that you primed for the bases? Is that just rolled out green stuff with a textured roller or did you just score them yourself? I’ve only just started painting 40K so all the objects you’ve done to make the landscape on the bases is really cool!
OK, yeah, this is going to be much easier than building up detailed bases, May try and snap off my first 5 Seraphim and rebase them like this. Great video and a great idea!
Looks nice! I dread working with green stuff though, because I can never wrap my head around just how much water you need for it to not stick to the tools/fingers. Next time I'll try drenching it in water like you do here.
it might be nice for a few of them to have a sort of "red herring" ribbon, so maybe some are symmetrical but one ribbon doesn't touch the ground but the other does :) great work!
Anything over the GW is better! Especially the curved one with the 'c' clip at the end instead of a pin! Those looks great when finished and will survive the battle no problem too!
You can choose your height, and measure it off the fly base to make sure it's the same. The fly bases are not the same height as each other and I just went with a shorter one, but you do yours higher if you wish!
I replaced the rod with styrene tubing and drilled a mounting hole. Damn clear ABS is just too brittle I wish they'd use a different material or design the mounting points better, preferably both.
I’ve used army painter green stuff for years, but I do find it difficult to work with. Can you change the ratio of blue to yellow to make it softer to work with? If so, which color do you reduce?
