There's a claim made that EVs are more reliable than gas cars. Automakers are notorious for planned obsolescence. Anyone who really believes they're not going to engineer EVs to break down or require repairs is kidding themselves. Especially when they're beholden to dealers who want to make money servicing cars. Also, anyone who owns cars knows there's so much that could happen to them that would require repairs anyways. There's a couple reasons that will happen and why EVs are never going to happen. Number one, if EVs were so great, automakers and politicians would just let the market decide which is better. There would be no need for mandates. The government didn't have to tell people to buy PS5's or flat-screen TVs. If you have to mandate that people buy this, it's not better than what it's replacing. Also, the infrastructure isn't going to be able to handle EVs. It's a joke.

I have worked for a secondary battery company in the past. I believe all vehicles CAN become EVs but not how it is done as it is today and right now is not a good time to set a date to phase ICE vehicles out completely because those promising projections will not turn out to be accurate. The first thing I want to point out is that, modern EVs rely on lithium way too much and their capacity/power is too big. Just like how crude oil is not to be found everywhere, the same it is for lithium. If all cars are converted into lithium battery powered EVs, there will be shortage or at least a huge price hike. What's making this problem worse is that, modern EVs are way too powerful(draining the battery faster) and has way too much capacity for its batteries(consumes a lot of lithium). In my opinion, the auto industry has to diversify the type of batteries, stepping away from the sole use of lithium AND make smaller, more efficient EVs as.... the very basic laws of physics tells us that the energy you use has to come from somewhere. IT IS NOT OKAY TO ALLOW EV TO GET EXCESSIVELY FASTER/HEAVIER BECAUSE IT EMITS ZERO EMISSIONS The second thing is, this is a very recent phenomenon, a totally unexpected one. In some places, the growth of EV is slowing down despite of the ever increasing tax incentives. The first batch of greenies have already bought EVs but the rest of the people won't join in. Of course there are those who simply cannot move on to EVs because they have sympathy for ICE vehicles but the price of vehicles is getting out of hands for those with lower income. This phenomenon will only accelerate as EVs are worthless in the 10+ year old used vehicle market due to the nature of battery life. We must allow more gradual change, not ban ICE vehicles just ten years later. Give time for the market/people to adjust to the change, including the used vehicle market. Not all people will follow the trend just because some one fifth of greenies have changed. In conclusion, it's not just California but ANYWHERE which has set up a date to phase out ICE vehicles in the 2030s, things may not work out as planned. Even if it does, it will come at a very hefty aftermath. Only a tiny number of places like Norway are exceptions. The majority will fail.

There are four types of car owners today. 1. The EV fanatic who has drunk the kool-aid, will not admit EVs have faults, will desperately try to prove EVs can work and will not listen to facts in an argument or will dismiss them as a Big Oil conspiracy. 2. The bandwagon yuppie sort who listened to a politician speak, a commercial, watched something on RU-vid/TV about how EVs are the future and bought one. These are going to be the ones who will likely learn the hard way and spread the word that EVs are terrible. Some of their friends will listen, others won't and they will learn the hard way. 3.The tools who want cars that go "VROOM VROOM" and think EVs are a communist conspiracy will NOT want them. 4. The people who think EVs are interesting, are skeptical, do informed research and realize that the more they learn about EVs, the worse it gets. I got taken in by the self-driving car hype. I thought after 2012, it would be standard at least since 2017. It just never happened. The tech industry working on self-driving prototypes lied their butts off. They're still finding out to this day. Many industry insiders have sort of admitted it's never going to happen. The same sorts of people behind the self-driving sham were behind EV development too. That's not a good sign. Grifters thrive by finding out what people want to hear and what they will shell money out for. I don't think the whole EV thing is going to end well. Usually things like this get hyped up and will only fall off the cliff after a major scandal. It's probably about to happen. There was already a guy in Norway that lost his mind when he was told he had to pay thousands to replace his Tesla's battery. When more of this nonsense happens or people wise up to it, that's a wrap.

How are we going to do it when cars need Gigawatt/hours more? Also; rare earth minerals CAN sometimes be mined by harming the environment? When are they mined without harming it? Every open mine is a disaster for the environment. If there is a forest above the cobalt ore, they cut down the trees to dig. Every electric car starts its life with a huge plus on their CO emissions box. Depending on the model, it takes tens of thousands of miles to catch up to ICE cars. @@sinirliadamLithium mining is a very tiny fraction of the global mining industry's annual raw tonnage. Annually, some 120,000 metric tons for lithium versus 2.8 *billion* metric tons for iron ore and other industrial metals like copper, aluminum, chromium, etc. So lithium is only 0.004% of that. Critically, batteries are _recyclable_. Just to be clear, lithium and the EV's battery are *not* consumed during EV operation. Specifically, batteries are "closed systems" where all material at its beginning of life are still present at its end of life. This enables the "circular economy". Take the case of the common 12V lead-acid "car battery". It has a recycling rate of over 99% making it the world's most recycled mass produced consumer item. However, fossil fuels are a _linear_ path of carbon pulled deep within the Earth's crust and expelled into our atmosphere where it does *not* belong. We're emitting a gigantic 37 *billion* metric tons of fossil fuel CO₂ into our atmosphere each year! Furthermore, as EV and electrification proliferates, mining for their battery's elements decreases as recycling takes over. That is, accessing the supply of raw materials from the recycling pipeline will be _cheaper_ than mining for the raw materials.

Then what will the California politicians do if everyone has a EV. Impose a road tax on EVs, and increase the cost of electricity. When you vote do so with your pocketbook in mind. Or just move out of California.

You covered almost everything. Except for the fact that buying an electric car will lead to changing of battery every 3-5 years which will take almost 30% of the vehicle cost. If you compare it with the amount spent on gas till that time it will be a costly affair. A vehicle's life is usually 8-10 years and the cost you are bearing in those 8-10 years for an electric vehicle is a lot more than what you are spending on a gas-powered vehicle. Also, you will be charging your vehicle from the wall outlet which supplies power from the grid. So, you are using electricity obtained from all types of sources. An electric vehicle needs to be more environmentally friendly and pocket-friendly before it is being put onto the market. Just for reference do search on news related to how the metals required for battery manufacturing are mined and sources.

So just an anecdote for ya...was at work near the highway. Went to a truck stop during my break, refueled in two minutes before going back. Drove to another city after work, stopped at a grocery store before getting dinner. There was an Electrify America and Tesla charging station, a rich guy with a BMW EV and another day before that, a Lordstown pickup, both were waiting outside their cars. I went in for about a half-hour, came back, everyone was still there waiting to charge. There was a gas station connected to this grocery store, you could just see dozens of people fueling up and leaving. Everyone who was there charging while I was shopping was still there and looked like they were going to be there a WHILE. I'm sorry, this isn't the future. It's a scam. The fact that I run into SO MANY losers online who don't even know EVs were invented around the same time the Hatfield and McCoy feud was going on is stunning and depressing. Most of them think EVs were just invented and I think that's part of the reason they feel so smug about driving or wanting to drive on. It doesn't help that one of the biggest liars and con artists in the world, who continues to be exposed everyday for being one, is behind Tesla and the EV craze. I've been dealing with EV fanatics for over two decades. Even lost a friendship to an electrical engineer over it. He couldn't beat me in an argument over EVs so he pulled out the "I'm an engineer" card, what are you? It's like a cult and it's depressing.

From my understanding 1 gallon is like 5L. In Netherlands we pay like $15-$18/gallon. So yeah I laugh when I hear Americans cry about price of fuel or gas as they call it. Contrary to popular belief, the future is NOT EV, but the future IS affordable & accessible public transport. In fact, the future is already here. Go to places like Netherlands & you'll see that affordable & accessible public transport I'm talking about. Even though it's becoming a bit less & less affordable these days because of inflation & rising living costs. But California already failed to do the basics of connecting LA & SF with high speed train & wasted billions of $ of taxpayers' money. So if Cali wants to really work towards the future maybe it should consult Netherlands, Japan or China & public transport infrastructure

How many miles can you get back after charging for 5 minutes? My car can get back all the range in under 3 minutes. What happen if you're in a hurry and need to charge?
