great looking product as always from you guys ! is it possible to use the Dyna style mount on a bagger ? reason being i don't want the filter mounted way down under the floorboard , would prefer to have it easily accessible .
@DKCustomProducts
@DKCustomProducts 3 года назад
If your bagger does not have lowers, yes, you can use the downtube style, otherwise, under the passenger floorboard is pretty easy to get to and change.

I would think the downtube version would run a bit cooler since the filter would get much more air flow around it than under the floorboard, wouldn't it? I want to add one of these to my '18 Road King but I'm torn between the two versions.
@DKCustomProducts

You may experience an extra 2-4 degrees cooling on the downtube version...not a lot, but something. With that little difference, I think it comes down to which you like the looks of best.

@DKCustomProducts
@DKCustomProducts 3 года назад
We have not tested the Arlen Ness Permanent Oil filters...they look to use the same filter element, so the other variables are the bypass and the actual housing. If you do get a Ness, I would recommend getting a real one, not one of the Chinese knock-offs I just saw on Amazon and Ebay.

I an wondering with the remote oil filter installed, Will the engine will starve for oil on start up during an oil change? How long will the engine run with out pressure verses not having the remote filter installed.
@DKCustomProducts
@DKCustomProducts 3 года назад
Good question. There is no difference. Unless you use a special machine to evacuate all the oil, there is always oil left in the engine when doing an oil and oil filter change. The extra lines for the filter relocation do not cause anymore time for the engine to build pressure than when the filter is in the stock location. One trick to use, whether with a filter relo or in stock position, which cuts about 1/2 second off building pressure, is to fill the oil filter about half full before installing. You can see an example of that in this video- ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tWtO8J1xE5E.html

Can you have the oil relocation used at the same time as the slim oil cooler kit? I have a 1999 FLHR, and I initially saw my oil relocation would be on the downtube... then I saw the oil cooler video and that slim would also be on the downtube. So would I have to do the oil filter relo placed under the passenger floorboard and use the downtube for the oil cooler? Or, use the downtube for the oil filter relo, and mount a cooler to the center, low btwn the downtubes?
@DKCustomProducts
@DKCustomProducts 3 года назад
We have Customers that run them both on the left side downtube...there is room. We also have Customers that run the oil filter relo on the left downtube and the oil cooler on the right downtube. I run the oil filter on the left downtube and a 10 row oil cooler on my right downtube. since the relocation kit has lowered the level of the oil filter quite a bit my thinking is if I use the longer filter found for some Evo applications I would be adding more filtering area and about a 1/4 of a quart more oil with the 1/4 of a quart by the relocation kit and should be able to run 5 quarts of oil without a problem according to the dipstick level and the longer oil filter K&N 173C, any thoughts on my madness would be greatly appreciated 🙏

My take on oil filters can be seen in the following video. I don't like paper filters of any length. 1/4 quart additional oil is not going to hurt, but the benefits are not going to be easily observed. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-__WbuX1IT1c.html

Does the stock M8 oil pump flow enough oil to support the remote location? What are the implications on warranty?
@DKCustomProducts
@DKCustomProducts 3 года назад
Yes, there is no increase in flow resistance when using the oil filter relocation kits. The oil pump will not know the difference and it flows enough oil to support the remote location. This has nothing to do with the oil filter relo, but since you mentioned "stock M8 Oil pumps".....M8 oil pumps were a big problem the first couple of years. I forget how many upgrades they've gone thru to get to their current iteration. Sometime in 2019 Harley finally got it figured out. If you have a 17 or 18, the stock M8 Oil pump is nothing like the current M8 oil pumps...just something to think about. Some dealerships, if you use non-Harley brand oil, they will tell you your warranty is voided. The reality is there is nothing about the filter relo that will legally void your warranty. So there are two ways to deal with a possible warranty claim on the engine: 1. Have an honest dealer that won't give the filter relo a second thought. 2. If you have a dealer that can't be trusted, remove the filter relo before taking it in for a claim on the engine. It takes 30-45 minutes to install, but only takes 5-10 minutes to remove it.

Thanks Kevin. I do have a 17 M8 TriGlide with stock oil pump.
@DKCustomProducts
@DKCustomProducts 3 года назад
@@steves2837 Only a small % of the 17 & 18 models have a sumping problem, due to the oil pump not scavenging well. Sounds like you have avoided that issue. 👍 We have plenty of 17 & 18 models running the filter relo, some with and some without the oil cooler. If you do run it, and then have a sumping issue, know that you would have had the sumping issue regardless. Even though it is a small %, that does not matter if I am part of that small %. For that reason, if it were me, I would get the upgraded oil pump before I did anything else. Some folks have the oem pump go bad in the first 500 miles, others have gone 30,000 miles and then it went bad. Many times when it sumps (like at highway speed) it trashes the entire engine. That said, thousands upon thousands have the old oil pump and have no issues...I just would rather be safe than sorry.

Sounds like a good time to look into cams... yes, I’ve been thinking about the new oil pump. I’ve heard good things about the 2020 8 lobe pump, but that they are on back order too, sigh.
