This is unironically what the purpose of the online qualifiers was for. Allowing non sponsored players to compete. Low and behold, an unsponsored player wins even though the amount of comments in the discussion around the online qualifiers that went "you really think a noname will beat angrybird or menard" were an overwhelming majority.

Your comment makes no sense because UMA travelled to the offline events more than most top players. It's not like he just appeared from an online event. He was at more CPT offline premiers than punk, both birds, and many more top players. So no that argument isn't moot because all of the people who actually just qualified via online in a weak region did in fact end up getting washed as predicted.

UMA was "unsponsored" but was at every single offline cpt event, that narrative doesn't really apply here. Also plenty of unsponsored players go to all the cpt events. The sponsor ecosystem is extremely weak right now. I get the idea though, if there was a point system that required even more traveling he might have not qualified.

This is the exact kind of story line I was hoping would play out. There was a lot of doom speak about group F ruining the tournament, but an unsponsored broke gamer made it to the summit. Repeat champions are good, but new champions are required for the competitive scene to move forward. No matter how else ya feel, can we all just embrace how amazing it was to not have the tournament end in a Luke mirror?

Was it just me or the Japanese players have much more experience against Rashid? I found NL, Leshar and Sayff didn't handle Rashid's level 2 tornado that well.. but it could have been that Gachikun finally mastered Rashid. As a Juri main I'm happy he did it and it kinda shut the mouths of all the complainers who were whining about Luke, JP and Ken all damned week. The whole week of Capcom cup was a pleasure to watch, even if the production fumbled the bag (wtf was up with the constant JP theme spam like Jesus Christ). I think with this unforseen winner Capcom will continue this path of the "world warrior" qualifications from each region. I just hope that they will add more qualifiers to the offline premiers so we get more "required viewing" tournaments throughout the year.

Outstanding recap, boss. I'm not going to lie. I was tossing mad nonsense about "Nero the motha#%%# boxer" in my friend group. Little did we know he was out there showing the world he had what it takes. I knew Kusanagi was going to do well, I just didn't see Problem X drowning in pools after he fought tooth and nail to get out of CPT. Everybody was calling this the easy group. "Anybody who clawed their way out was into the top 16 no problem" As it turns out, what a certain pro dubbed 'burgers' were actually out there ready to cook. Uma taking it all, no sponsor, no need to spend an exorbitant amount of money out there for 1k into Evo, as an older gentlemen tells probably the biggest story of all. If you believe and you work at it, you can do it. How's that for an inspirational narrative. If this was that old points system with all those expensive behind tournaments, Uma would have never made it here. Have a deep think about that. I sure do. I'm sure he's deep thinking about it too. Here's hoping we see them all again next year.

one thing I remember before Capcom Cup started was that people were really complaining about the groups seeding, I still remember the calls from people saying it was unfair how group F was too stacked with big players, and I think this proved one thing from sports that happens a lot on big competitions, just because you're a big name doesn't mean you will perform well on the tournament. this isn't a diss against people like Angry Bird who I was surprised he couldn't get out of pools, but I don't think he would have gotten much farther if he was in a different group, top 16 saw quite a few big names fall out, UMA played incredibly well the whole tournament, so in a weird way he winning the tournament kinda validated the format. This still doesn't mean the format is perfect, I do believe there is a better way to implement seedings, and I believe Capcom should try to go back to a whole season ranking to create a way to guarantee from the qualified players the top ranked players all go to different groups for example, but it would be interesting to see how the point system for the whole season would be implemented, that's something that I feel Capcom should at least try, or find a different solution for this no their own though.

I'm very happy for UMA, but I hope Capcom more evenly distributes money to players for Capcom Cup 11 and throughout the season. More offline events that provide more money means people like UMA can more sustainably do this thing without being completely destitute. Having only $300 in Los Angeles for two weeks is a nightmare I have lived through, and I hope the players I root for don't have to experience that or worse for the *chance* of winning real money.

your content is really amazing the way you wanted to keep the history of the player and tournament they way the way you share the story with world is really admirable, instead of kipping just for characters chard you want to preserve the story of the player who are controlling them , thanks for that this is what the esport on general really need .

Side note, it looks like UMA was wearing a japanese hololive vtuber sweater merch, and that when twitter fans of hololive noticed that, they just had to root for him :D

i watched quite a bit of the tourney and top 16 but the scheduling was so horrible for EU that I couldn't watch all of it. so this recap was a really good watch, thanks

I watched the tournament, but I could totally see there being a bunch of people who don't have time, so these recaps are a good idea I think.
