No one cares about Apple Vision Pro 

Simply put: The price point is so high that it isn’t really worth keeping up with information about it because most of us are 100% sure we wont be buying it.

I'm foaming at the mouth for it, as a developer. Everyone else doesn't think its current utility validates the price point, and they're absolutely right. I think Apple knows this and didn't want to market the hell out of it for that reason. 2nd gen will be a different story I think.

Jon, it's because they literally *can't* "show" us, without personally trying it. That's the inherent problem with marketing any VR/AR headset. It's also why it's hard for people like us to accurately convey our thoughts about it, because no amount of words will do the experience, whether good, bad or lukewarm, justice. That's been my worry about Vision Pro from the jump. Good video. -Jeff

The price debate over VisionPro is similar to paying over $10,000 for an e-bike. Some can’t imagine. For others, the price is not a big deal. Depends on your available resources and priorities.

When everyone saw 3500 for the announcement, the general audience/consumer wrote it off immediately. Your average joe rn is not dropping 4K on a headset

I’m basically waiting til Gen 2 on this, because I think this first gen is for devs. I think they knew the market for this first gen wasn’t going to be the general public because it needs devs to fill in the gaps with games, workspaces, etc. I would guess if the launch hits well with devs that is when we’ll see a bigger hype from Apple

I’m pre-ordering. I’m a business owner & work at my iMac all day. Very interested to see how the Vision Pro holds up with my work day.

My belief as to no traction: 1. Price point.- this is a month of living expenses for a ton of people. 2. Usability- no one can really see how this fits in their life 3. Size- ties directly with #2. Even if one was willing to try and use it, they don't want to carry it around or be seen wearing it. Even the Ray Ban Meta glasses get hardly any attention and they're a practical and unassuming form factor.

Was going to preorder, but it’s so expensive that I decided to let some early adopters have real feelings about it…with practical reviews rather than fanboy reviews.

It’s absolutely a dev kit disguised as the “first generation consumer” model, they’re getting it out there they’re getting the idea in people’s minds as they work in a lighter cheaper version in response to feedback and more content from developers

I care about the implications of it, and the possibility of it becoming a regular updated product which gets better and cheaper over time, but for now it’s just too expensive and lacking reasons to use it for the average consumer. It’s a experimental high end tech product and it will take time

This is the first time, probably ever, where I’m like, “Oh, I'm gonna let the beta testers figure this out.” about an Apple product… 💁🏻

As a developer, Apple told us the best information possible -- “everything you release on iPhone, iPad, Mac will work at launch… same developer tools, same design languages… you’re already equipped to build for this new platform” Other platforms and company wish and dream they could do this with new products…

I’m personally pre-ordering it if I can grab one on pre order day. I think there are two big reasons the first is the price and the second is nothing has even been shown off. This should of had its own event prior to release going over everything it can do and showing some highlight apps

The biggest question is whether this can be used for working as a designer in hotels. Will it allow me to have Figma and Adobe products on a usable screen OR will they all be too far away to see the details? If it allows me to recreate a series of large screens for working then all I need is my laptop and this and that's perfect. But the demos so far seem to only show default MacOS apps. Need to see if Adobe / Figma works in it and then Office / Teams / Excel. Do you think I can do Teams calls? Positively answer these and I'm in, and it becomes a productivity tool that justifies some of the cost.

The fact it is US$3500 at least and only available in USA to start is perhaps why the Google trends was low the last several months. This whole product sounds like an expensive public beta product, that has the core technologies nailed but lot of rough edges like the virtual keyword not allowing multi-touch at launch. The watch did moderately well at launch due to the lower price, wide reach and also appealed to people that have worn traditional watches for years (myself included).

I think they’re showcasing it as a household item (knowing the regular person isn’t buying the first iteration) in order to prep people for future iterations at a lower cost so that people still have it top of mind going forward

It's a public developer testing kit. The SE, with much better battery runtime, with no cables and being much smaller / lighter / more portable at a ~1k price point will ground-breakingly change the world we live in forever.

Since the launch of the M3 chip, will they be putting the newest chip in the headset instead of the M2 or just be putting the M2 in?

We need version 2 at less than half the price with a few killer apps to make it compelling.

I think they’re really trying to do VR/AR right, which is why they’re taking it slow and ensuring a good fit. Once they figure out the problems and the media has covered it, then people might actually be interested.

I think the price point is meant to put off casual consumers. I think they’re trying to gather as much information as possible from developers, enthusiasts and influencers as they’re more likely to provide useful feedback. I even think it’s partially why they made the decisions they did with the battery and weight of the headset. It’s like you said “they care too much and not at all, all at the same time”. If I’m correct I think it’s a genius move from Apple

What if this is one of those golden ticket type of events where only those possessing a Vision Pro will be able to survive an upcoming apocalyptic event? Anyway, all jokes aside, I am excited to order one and glad most of you all are ok waiting. Less competition for us ready for this product 😂. By the way, great video!!

The way they announced it along with the initial price point make it pretty clear that they are not really targeting the general consumer base at first launch. I imagine they want to get it out there in developers' hands and get through some bumps before really making a push to consumers.

Well this sold out in LA at least 5 hours but I’m sure less. It’s just when I went back to add accessories that I noticed all of LA had sold out. I didn’t even get it the first day available and I was ready at 5 am.

It’s the price. It’s too expensive. I’ll stick with my Quest 2 for now.

When I first saw Vision Pro I was like man it’s so cool! Then I saw the price and I said nombre nevermind and never looked at it again.

I’m preordering. As a developer, I’m curious about the future of the space and I want to build some of the first apps. Did the same with the overpriced Meta Quest Pro when it released. Pure curiosity.

I’ve always been a PC guy although I’m Appled out every where else. iPhone, iPad, watch, headphones, etc. I’ve appreciated the desktop/laptop lineup but I could never get myself to want to switch over until recently. Then you started dropping leaks about the Vision Pro and that’s left me curious. I thought about getting the Meta Quest as well but once the announcement came out, I decided to hold off because it’s going to give me the best of both worlds.

The cost is ridiculous. it's hard to get excited or even care about something you know you won't be paying for if you're even remotely fiscally responsible.

I just want to know what are the plans for cheaper iterations

MKBHD is implying that the hype dies down quickly when you use it because it's so excruciatingly heavy that it trumps any benefits. And he is Apple's MOST hand-picked creator.

Is it me, or does it seem like the vision pro release seems likes an mass public experiment? Like apple doing a trial run to collect data and then release the actual apple vr product in a few years

You once said that the expensive apple products were made for the people who could afford them and not for average guy who won’t get the full usage out of it.

I think it does fit well in the iPad category in terms of use cases, especially multimedia consumption. Although the price will cause many people not to go for it. In the future when it gets cheaper it might become the greater iPad.

Until the price is 2k or under, people will not be interested in it. Simple as that.

One thing about Apple is that it keeps trying to sell "professional level" products to as many regular people as possible - MacBook Pro, Apple Watch Ultra, and now this. In my opinion, none of these products are for average consumers. But I don't think it's a problem of the products. This is more of a marketing issue.

I'm excited about the Vision Pro. I understand why there is little interest, it is too expensive. I'm interested to see how things progress.

A new gadget that most people dont know what to do with, at a high price point, when global ecnomics are bad. Its a really cool device for a very niche group of people. If I bought it im certain that I'd use it a couple times, be impressed, put it down, and forget about it for a while.

Seeing the early reactions to Vision Pro I sense a real danger of people rejecting the value proposition of the device, because many are not used to vr, don’t quite understand how this is a big leap and focusing more on voicing discomfort and isolation, which the internet is already blowing out of proportion. what if Apple decides it’s not worth it (because they deal with a double standard of expected quality and are scrutinized over everything) and simply scrap this after some five years of software support and move on? It could be a real danger to vr if this is just widely rejected when it’s clearly the best that vr can offer overall right now, I’m worried… hopefully they try at least one or two more versions before giving up.

Vision Pro is an amazing item, but it's also an expensive item that nobody needs.

I’m extremely excited about it. Will probably wait a few months after it’s released and Apps available, read Reviews, before possibly buying. If not first version, the second, after bugs are addressed.

I think they are managing expectations because they are limited by manufacturing. Sure, the price point is probably also a factor. But surely something this technologically advanced is very difficult to manufacture ... they don't want to risk advertising too much and have to deal with potential disappointment from not being able to fulfill orders, so they are just going under the radar, knowing the people following it, and that can afford it, will buy it. And they are ok with that.

I never cared at all for VR anything. That price tag though, you can keep your VR Nightmare Apple.

It's only available in the US, It's expensive; if you have a family, how many are you expected to buy? I also need to get a prescription for the lenses.

You know what I might actually buy, an affordable ar/vr headset that's light and simple, looks just like any shades one might wear, these vr headsets felt like scuba googles strap to your head, too big and heavy, to be worn for long hours.

I'm not excited for the first gen after getting a quest 3 that im really enjoying. They need to check the price and the tech for it to have a larger appeal

Personally, I love how advanced it is. Being able to perfectly see my room at a moments notice and overlay VR on top is supremely dope. And it finally has a resolution that will make me feel actually immersed without being able to distinguish pixels. HOWEVER. They have mentioned next to nothing about VR games and controllers. They’re focusing nearly entirely on computing at this stage, and I don’t think it’s their focus yet. Plus the price is way too steep for me. I want one, but I will not be getting one unless I win the lottery or something. In its current state, I just don’t have a need for it.

The launch will only have somewhere between 60k and 400k units, according to different sources. I think with the supply being so low, the demand is already far above that, this thing will be impossible to get. It makes no sense to further promote it and make even more people who can't get it. The early adopters who are fortunate enough to grab one will do some word-of-mouth marketing to their friends and family, and that will increase the hype for the next supply and give developers time to create more things for it.

Will try it as soon as I can get my hands on it. Won’t buy it brand new, probably will wait for a second hand

The big reveal was in June. Not much news about it since until it’s actually out.

There is absolutely no reason for me to buy this but I can’t wait to find out what engine it will support for games so I can start developing them!!

It's not ready for prime time yet. It's a highly technologically advanced device, but it's not a good product yet. Plus, it's very complicated to manufacture. I don't think Apple intends for the first-gen Vision Pro to dominate the market. But they need to get it into the hands of developers and enthusiasts to advance the ecosystem, discover use-cases, and learn how to improve it as consumer product. The second-gen and non-Pro versions will be true consumer-facing products that will dominate. And by that time, the surrounding ecosystem will be up to speed as well. Apple is giving this first-gen version exactly as much attention as it deserves and requires in the present day. This is a bet on tomorrow.

This current price pt is too high for most…I think some will wait for the 2nd or 3rd gen… But will the price ever come down? Or just stay where it is but the product will be better for future generations?

Price confirms this is just for developers, it's prohibitively expensive. ie: Even if you'd buy it, you can't afford it. Feels like iPhone before the app store. And John, 1. The people using it weren't regular people. They were obviously rich or on a StarTrek set. 2. Developers ARE people too. Somewhat. But still. 3. In every case in the marketing the people wearing the thing were in their 30s. No kids, no teens, no grandma. When did you see "regular" people?

I’m not paying $3000 for a gen one product that frankly looks like it is looking for a problem to solve that I just don’t think i have.

i would love to have it because i commute regularly for a 7hour trip and i think it would be great for it. but the price point is too much for me unfortunately. as for google search for me it makes sense because its not released yet. i have seen like 2-3 videos about it and all i know its getting released soon. i think it would be looked up way more if it was available. but we‘ll see if the theory is true in a few months from now

I’m preordering. I’m just a fan that loves the tech. Worst case scenario there’s a good return policy. Totally worth getting my hands on trying the future. I hope it’s useable enough to keep.

Great video as always Jon. my opinions: 1. I've always and still believe no AR/VR headset and/or glasses will replace smartphones, it's just like how siri and other voice assists can do quite a lot without us touching our devices but most of the times we rather use the device. The smartphone formula just works and trying to change that is like trying to re-invent the wheel. 2. AR/VR headsets are exciting (maybe mostly to tech enthusiasts and gamers) but they aren't something I'd call mainstream, Apple may be trying to do that but certain experiences don't need that level of enhancement: maybe things like design, rendering, entertainment(movies and gaming). However, it doesn't add any value for normal corporate work like charts, conferencing and presentations compared to a laptop UI. 3. The technology on the device is amazing and innovative but I see VR/AR headsets as an evolution of 3D viewing technology and that segment of tech received high level of enthusiasm worldwide but only a fraction of those people (like myself) actually enjoy and uses the tech but even so not on a daily bases. 4. I think the reasons for the lack of interest for Vision Pro are 1stly simply due to the fact that they aren't available for purchase yet and people search for things they want/plan to buy, 2ndly is the pricing; too expensive for an average person especially in this economy, 3rdly seems like you can't game on them and currently the biggest consumers of these type of devices are gamers in my knowledge, and 4thly are the abovemented limitations because even with watching a movie as family or friends you'd each need the device to have an immersive experience. Therefore no AR/VR device brings that "I can't survive without throughout the day" ideology both at home and away.

I want one, I’d love to try one, I wanna see those movies in those different settings etc. the one and only problem, like most people - the price. Gradually when the price comes down and the rich have bought the first generation or two and it gets good reviews, interest will pickup. I imagine it’s like when first iPhone dropped and people were balking at the price, that eventually changed (although iPhone still probably had more interest in beginning, as it was obvious how it’d change things)

To be fair, I think once ppl actually use it, then you will see the hype. The iPhone wasn't crazy in the tech space till ppl got ahold of it, then it changed the world (not that this will) but I think you have to try it to get it you know? Price also, price is a big barrier.

Super excited for Vision Pro. It’s not even listed on Apple’s website in my country yet. I think the first gen Vision Pro is for die hard Apple fans. I’ll get the 2nd gen version in a year or two.

if quest 3 doesn't exist, then i would definitely buy vision pro. they are similar and the extra cost does not make up for how much better it is.

Yea. Here in Canada where I’m at that thing would be around $4800 or so plus $600 tax. Then after a couple months people get bored of them and try to resell them on local marketplaces only to get nothing but lowballers trying to get it for $1000. I guarantee it. Personally I wouldn’t even be interested in switching out from the Meta Quest 3 until something comes out with complete FOV

i don't have too high hopes for the vision pro for now at least, i still think meta/oculus will keep the upper hand on VR and XR for a while because the quest 3 and maybe a potential quest pro 2 will most definitely be more competitively priced and more popular than vision pro

I’m preordering the headset. I’m excited to use an innovative technology made by a company that obsesses over great user experiences. I want to see how much better it is than the Meta Quest, and PC VR. I want to be one of the early adopters, like the first people to get the iPhone. And, as a software developer, I want to glimpse into the future and build some understanding for a platform where I might be able to contribute some of my own software. I’m also curious about all the other small ways it might improve my quality of life. Even if it’s just a floating RU-vid video next to my stove, so I can cook and watch the latest FPT update at the same time.

Like with a lot of Apple products, I’m eagerly awaited for a few versions down the line.

My thoughts on the price; VR is expensive! The meta quest 2 sold at 499, and it cost 429 to make. A massive company like meta made 70$ on this headset! Apples margins are (roughly) the same as whatever it cost to make (~450$ to make iPhone Pro and 999$ selling price). This means that the Vision Pro costs obvs a lot to make. As well as that they had to develop a crap ton of new technologies like a new chip (R1) and also new screens, powerful other components. Hopefully this helps, and makes some sense!

I'm not going to lie, Apple Vision Pro is definitely a "mystery" of a product... I know I'm excited to get it because this is my first experience of receiving a significant first generation product Apple has made. Because at the time the 1st Apple Watch came out I was like in middle school lol. I feel like Apple knows what they are doing we kinda have to "trust the process" or "take a leap of faith" we seen the same odd reactions when it came to AirPods coming out. We seen the odd reactions to when they got rid of the Touch ID on iPhone. I mean we still have a somewhat dysfunctional iPad line-up lol. I feel like this product is for those who simply want it just to want it. Sure there is regular people show in the adds and keynote. But at the end of the day its us the consumer that decides how apple vision pro will turn out to be.

So, Jon, you may wonder why I’m still watching this video. It is because I love your videos. I don’t miss a one. Thanks for doing this and keeping up the videos.

I have to wonder how much of this is also due to the Vision Pro launching only in the United States for the time being. Apple product launches usually have a lot of interest all around the world, but being from Europe, I simply can't even think about pre-ordering one even if I could afford it as we'll apparently have to wait another full year before we get it.
