My friend made me listen to this song this afternoon during lunch time while he was studying and I was going through some mood swings and he said that we can't always depend on one another. We have to depend on ourselves......and how we can cheer ourselves up and make ourselves happy instead of harping out on the negatives. This song really is beautiful and it's so meaningful to what he's told me and I really am thankful for this song. It's so true that no one is alone. Thank you so much for uploading this song!! I've just got all wrapped up reading the comments, so... I'd like to say 2 things people tend to forget about this film..a) the main character is THE WOODS and i believe it's kind of a metaphor about life, b) main issue behind the tales...LOVE bounds as in parents-children or couple's relationship... it really strikes me here the ' people make mistakes, fathers, mothers, holding to their own, thinking they're alone'...if you pay atention 'stay with me' and 'children will listen' really gets deep into the fears and secrecies that parents choose in order to 'protect' their child, when in reality no one is alone and what a child really needs is a parent that's there for them, not a builtup fairytale fachade of their lifes, I truly believe every parent should watch this, it's really a tale intentended for them. 'Careful the tale you tell, that is the spell'. (Ok, i'm also crying tbh)
Morality is relative. We say "People make mistakes" because we hold different views from others and judge them from a contradicting, irreconcilable standpoint. Remember, "Witches can be right. Giants can be good." We all have our different outlooks on various circumstances, situations and issues in life. Sometimes we don't understand what led others to commit mistakes simply because we hold onto our own. We only see our own side of the story. So in this world---in our own, individual, disparate worlds---it's we who decide what is right and we who decide what is good. In the process, some will be on our side while others will fail to concede what we stand for. What's important is that we have to understand each other.
This song never fails to make me cry. God, what a powerful and honest message. There's no sugarcoating; reality isn't black and white. There are many shades of gray and we all make mistakes, sometimes with dire consequences. Part of growing up, I think, is realizing your parents aren't perfect (assuming you had a generally good relationship with them and they weren't abusive). Parents are human, too, and they sadly sometimes say and do things that hurt their children even though they love them. In general, we all have an unfortunate natural tendency to take out our emotions on those closest to us and hurt the ones we love most. That's not to excuse poor (especially toxic/abusive) behavior, we should apologize when it happens and try to avoid doing it again in the future, but humans can't help but sometimes lash out at those closest to them. And sometimes we do things thinking they are the right thing, when in reality they end up hurting the same people we are trying to help. As the song says, "you decide what's good, you decide what's right". There is no definitive "right" or "wrong", and what may seem right/wrong to one person may be not be to another. Of course, there is a general consensus that murder, stealing, etc. are wrong that is why there are laws and society shuns criminals but still not everything is black and white. The other powerful message this song has, "no one is alone", also really hits close to home for me. My greatest fear is ending up alone and often I do feel kind of lonely. Hearing that no one is ever alone is a really comforting and uplifting message for me. I think it's true, even when you feel alone you're not really alone. Even if you think no one cares, there is always at least one person that cares. Just because you can't see it doesn't mean they don't exist. There are people that care about you and would be sad if you were to go away, whether you know it or not, so to anyone reading this please know that your life has value, you are never alone, so please don't take your life away from those who cherish it.
This song is really hitting me hard now more than ever. Rob Marshall really took the meaning strongly after Obama told the people "you're not alone" at a speech commemorating the losses of 9/11. Now more than, fear and despair are hitting in the world and it's making me sad and feeling uplifted all the same to know that none of us are alone in this struggle.
I didn't see the movie, but when i was talking to my friend by message on Google Plus Hangouts, and i was stressed because of someone and what was happening and i was...doing self-harm..'cause i do it sometimes to relieve me and help me with life, but she has helped me before but i did it once again...and she said that i had to listen to this song to help me with it and really look at the lyrics and she hopes it would help me.And i want to thank her for sending me this song because i had never heard it.It indeed helped me and it was sweet of her to do that.I know her in real life and i have for a long time.She sent me this song and i'm glad.When i feel depressed and i'm about to do self harm, i'll choose the right path and listen to this instead :) I feel happy, and this song helped me a lot. This song brings so many memories to me because my high school performed this as a show for Indoor Winds (Marching Band). This evokes so much emotion of the ups and downs we had. The frustrations, the good times, the bad times, but in the end it brought us together. Ultimately, we performed as a group and together we stood as a family. This song will always be in my heart as something I hold dear.
My friend had me listen to this song two months ago when I was going through mood swings. Trust me, this song really touched my heart positively and just had me bawling my eyes out. I watched the movie/musical recently on Netflix and I didn't really like it so much, but there are some really good moments, this song is one of them. It really got into me. And it's funny that it makes me feel more lonely, I don't know, it's like the song made me realize how lonely I feel. I almost cried in that scene cause of that, if I wasn't watching with my parents I'd probably had cried. (Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining about the song or telling it's wrong in some way.)

my whole family died in a car accident i was just 4 years old( 8 years ago ) it was my birth day they were driving home with my present i was in the back seat and somehow survived my injury not only did i lose my lost unforgetful memorise i also got a huge scar inside me that won keeps reminding me of that day now im on my death bed in the hospital about to die in about 3 in a half days i they say you cant remember anything cause u were to young to understand but i see i understand everthing and it seems to hurt every time i close my eyes i miss my mother she actually survived the accident but she died 1 year later cause of the damage to her body and she was losing blood this song was her favourite song she would sing it to me even though she had an awful voice this song reminds me so much of her

Ironically the most honest fairy tale song. Where an adult explains to a kid that everyone is a fuck up even adults you as a kid might think have all the answers. Even then it's not fucking up that matters in your journey through the woods it's how you decide to channel your mistakes that matters and knowing you aren't alone in being a fuck up is the only real comfort you can hope for when life gets you down.
I hope they record the version that is at the Saint James now which Phillipa Soo sings and it just opened my heart and helped me forgive my mother in a way that I have never been able to.
