To me in general when people talk about the reasons they want to “change races” just seems like fetishization of that race and it’s not like we don’t have enough problems as it is with appropriation and fetishization. I guess black face is ok now.

As someone who has endured sexual violence and sexual harassment, I would not feel comfortable seeing male genitalia in a space where I’m undressing around strangers and already feel a bit vulnerable. I know it’s not wrong of the transgender person to use the locker room that suits their identity but I think if they had warned others beforehand or gone into a stall to change clothes, it would have helped. Also, just waiting for people to leave with their children before getting naked would help. It’s a difficult thing to talk about because trans people are also vulnerable to sexual violence and harassment. I think spas should section off an area for changing rooms that are gender neutral but keep the women’s and men’s changing rooms open as options

I wonder if she was trying to make a radical statement. Perhaps she could have gone to a lgbt+ sauna or just kept her robe on? Had to come back for a second comment, because I’d not heard about Oli London, but wanted to find out a bit about him. You guys have hit the nail on the head. He talks about how much he wants to be a Korean citizen (even offering to do the mandatory two-year military service if the Korean govt will give him citizenship), and how he’s an ambassador for K-pop. I think he’s confused about a really profound like/love for a certain part of Korean culture, but the problem is that he‘s picking and choosing which parts of ‘being Korean’ fit in with what he wants his reality to be, without knowing the actual struggle behind any racialized identity, or minimizing what people have gone through (or continue to experience).

Ok i got this from reasearching skull structures lol for Asian skulls the head to tends to be rounder, flatter in the back, and broader. Face is flatter (eyes less deep on average)...cheeks more prominent. And Caucasian skulls tend to have narrower skulls, but higher vault, more rounded back, less prominent cheeks, deeper set eye sockets. So if you put an Asian and White person face next to eachother you can immediately point the clear differences.

1) the fact that the Olympics would let a white trans woman way above the average age range compete, but not 3 black cis women is telling that their testosterone and fairness rule is BS 2) because the conversation of trans women in sports is such a complex issue I feel like it really is a case by case thing. I know about a few trans women who have transitioned late normally do still compete with the men, and as far as the recent Republican laws that they tried to enact on school aged children, I believe it is unfair to bar trans girls from competing because since they are prepubescent or taking hormone blockers, they don't really have a biological advantage against cisgirls. It really depends on the person's individual condition imo. However, when we involve trans men in this conversation I am personally conflicted because would it be fair to allow a transitioning ftm person to compete in either without the advantage that testosterone gives them or the disadvantage of just starting testosterone. We often don't hear this discourse when it comes to trans men but and even though I also think this is a case by case thing in general it is a slightly different discussion because it would not present the same issues as transwomen in women's leagues.

It's refreshing to see someone zooming out and focusing on the bigger picture. At the end of the day a certain group of people is now rewarded to be aggressive and bold into their statements and actions to fight the 'bad' in the world, however, little do they know that they are turning into the exactly same bad. To me both sides are the same, it's just that one side of the camp is rewarded for its actions, putting labels such as hero, saviour, protectors but you can not be a hero when you put others down, when you hunt them down and ruin their life for their opinion, rudeness and ignorance. You can lift people up, you can educate them and maybe you can try and understand where they come from and why are the way they are or simply not engage. You don't have to engage in every disagreement and add so much hate and aggression and expect to create a change. The current state of the world is ''either you are with us or against us'', but the world has so many more faces than only these 2 perspectives. This is all about the ego and it's a bit fucked up.

About Oil London (because I refuse to say his name and I thought that his name is Oil lmao and I'm so sorry if this comment is so long because I usually don't do long comments) I have never heard of him until I saw another Korean Tik Toker comment about him replacing the colors of the flag of South Korea. First thing's first. You never change the color of the Korean flag. To some people who don't understand, the colors and the symbols of the Korean flag, the red and blue essentially represent the forces of the cosmic world, the white background represents purity and peace, and the black trigrams are the celestial bodies of heaven, earth, fire, and water. This flag for me and a lot of other Korean people represents the cultural fellowship that we have in bond with other Korean people and it encompasses 4 to 5 thousand years of history as well as the trials and tribulations that we had to go through. It's a flag that I'm very proud of. I felt that when he called himself Korean and changed the colors of the flag, a lot of things went in my mind. The first thing that went into my mind was "if he actually did do actual changes on the emblem in South Korea, most likely he would have gone to prison or paid around I want to say 6 to 10 thousand USD". That's how important the flag is. Also he did mention that he looked like one of the people from BTS (which clearly he does not) and finally I think the last straw that hit me (from looking through his deranged Instagram) is like David said how essentially around the 1:09:12 area on how he was being Korean for the clout. You know, looking through his Instagram got me really mad. I've been studying on my own since I was about 8 years old about Korean history and learning the nuances for quite some time. When I've been teased about what I do from having mainly owning Korean products (and my mom's love for Japanese products lol), eating the food that I want to eat, etc I went through a lot of shit and albeit innocent curiosity, but still a lot of shit. Now that he declares himself to be Korean for the last eight years feels like he slapped me through my entire life. Another issue that I have with this strange alien is, is he not proud of who he is? Is he not proud to be a Londoner? Is he not proud to be an Englishman? There's great history of the island itself (except for ya know some of the things that happened within the last 300 years) and I cannot fathom nor understand why he feels the desire and needs to be Korean when he can be himself. In conclusion, Oil will never be a Korean. Just because he had surgery in Korea doesn't make him Korean. He will never be Korean because he doesn't know what it's like to be a Korean. He thinks that he's Korean because of a trend. He will never be Korean and frankly enough, I'm pretty sure that a majority of Koreans won't accept him either. He's clearly deranged.

No one should expose themselves to children, regardless of gender. However, there is a difference between undressing yourself in a locker room where there happen to be kids (and still being modest) and deliberately exposing yourself. I've only been around a few trans people that changed near me, but they were pretty modest about it. Maybe there's a small percentage of cis men that take advantage (although Idk if criminals would be dissuaded by any trans-related law, or any law) or trans women that aren't the most sensitive around kids (I agree in the concept of nonsexual nudity being normalized in some places, but I think parents have a say in what they want their kids exposed to, especially when it's a naked stranger), but I don't think if kicking people out because they don't fit your standards of a specific gender or being overly aggressive towards trans people is the way to do it. It's OK to normalize trans bodies for children and have people learn early that sex is separate from gender. However, they don't need a live surprise example to get the point across. On the other end, it's OK to be careful around kids, but some Steven Crowder/Ben Shabibo types use examples like these to fear monger and spread the idea that predatory trans people is an epidemic or something.

Jimin and Jungkook from BTS used their real names for their stage names, but Oli London is a sasaeng, in my opinion. For a few years, he has been known to BTS fans very negatively because of his obsession with Jimin from BTS. Currently, he says he got his plastic surgery to look Korean in general, but as late as last year, he was saying he got surgery to look like Jimin from BTS. He has been on Botched and Dr. Phil both talking about getting plastic surgeries to look like Jimin specifically and released a video of him having a civil union (he called it a wedding) ceremony to a cardboard cut out of Jimin and occasionally acts as if he is in an actual relationship with his cardboard cutout fo Jimin.

What frustrates me with this transgender issue and sports are the individual suffering like the Polynesian girl’s situation with the Olympics. This was her chance, she’s probably been training for so long. Even if we revoke these transgender individuals from playing in women’s sports in the future there still going to be so many individuals that lost their chances to share their skills with the world bc they unfairly got removed from performing for someone who literally has been scientifically proven in having an upper hand biologically.

Thank God someone finally acknowledged that “acceptance” is going to take a long, long time. The problem with some people is that they go “we need change to happen now NOW NOW!!! You need to accept us/these people NOW!” without considering that before acceptance, there is tolerance. We need to learn to figure out and exist within these new norms before we can accept them. If in your self righteousness disguised as activism makes the side you’re trying to convince go “I can’t STAND these people” (aka, no tolerance) just stop, you’re not helping and holding any real progress back. Edit: also that “transracial “ thing, I’m black and I had that same “back of my head” moment when BLM was the only thing anyone talked about last year. I had known about Juneteenth my whole life, the Tulsa Race Massacre my whole life, and now suddenly everyone cares. Suddenly all these companies “take a stand against racism” as if they never did before. Made a whole tv special about Juneteenth that year when they had NEVER done that before. There was no incentive, but now there was. I was happy that we were being recognized but I was livid. I still am.

To be honest. I think the real problem is is that the spa was clearly not transparent enough about the fact that the rooms are segregated based on gender identity , and not sex. Which is very dangerous and a bad move on their part because they are messing with implied consent here. Consent goes both ways. When those women walked into that space they walked with the impression and knowledge that the.bodies in that space would be all female, and thus they gave their implicit consent to only see female genitalia and to get naked around female bodies. THAT'S what they consented to and THAT'S what was violated. Also, people who are trans have dysphoria and usually would try to hide their genitalia because that is a part of their body they feel dysphoric over. The fact that they didn't try to hide it?

Here’s something that doesn’t get talked about in the trans-athlete debate: the social aspect of sport. A lot of trans-women and trans-men want to participate in team sports because of the social aspect of wanting to play with people of the same gender and don’t feel comfortable playing on the team that was their assigned gender at birth. It’s something that might not seem important but has huge psychological impacts, especially for younger athletes. Food for thought. Idk what the best way to tackle this issue, but I do think that it needs to be addressed.

Now come to find out the person who they were complaining about has convicted indecent exposure crimes in the past; and is now being brought up on the same charges for the wi spa incident. This guy used the law as a way to legally expose himself to women.

I agree, if he's so Korean then when is he going to the Korean Army? When is he gonna pay some taxes around here? Also wanted to add, when I was growing up there weren't any Asian people in my schools until I went to high school in Allentown near Philly. My best friend there was half Japanese half Mexican and I loved hanging around her. I also grew up watching way too many martial arts films: Bruce Lee, Jet Li, Donnie Yen, Jackie Chan. My mom let us watch foreign films, anime, eat lots of different foods(eating out cuz lord knows she couldn't cook), listen to foreign music to make sure that we knew that it doesn't matter what you like or what you look like, you shouldn't make fun of anyone because of that or if they're mentally challenged.

Question is; if a woman was a victim of rape, is it wrong for her to feel uncomfortable to see something that triggers her? Say, a biological man in the girls bathroom?!? Whose rights are infringed then: the trans or the woman? It's already bad that we have to ignore basic women's rights, but are we forgetting those who have been emotionally traumatized too?

Why aren't people fighting for the fact that they don't feel saf3 in the men's bathroom why don't they make guys bathrooms more saf3? If they make un1s3x bathrooms people would still be not safe bc people that are 3vil would still be using the same space as you. This is not fixing the problem. The answer is a third option that people c0ns3nt to go in willingly.

Skin scraping (gao sha) is pretty much as David explained. Rub some medicated oil (ie Tiger Balm) then scrape the skin - you can use a sauce dish, a coin, there are specially-made jade/stone crafted specific for scraping; a traditional method is to pinch&drag with 2 knuckles. And recommended to actually ask someone who knows how to do it because it's recommended to scrape along the body's chi lines (definitely fact check me, please. I'm no expert or doctor). Also, I was recently facing a situation; it's moreso a question of humanity than a transgender situation - is that some people just lack tact. Because these are the new laws and these are my rights now, my rights overpowers/negates/justifies that someone else's discomfort does not matter. I hope I'm making sense... Also, Oli London just looks disturbing to me. I had no idea who or what he is until now so thanks for sharing. "Transracial" doesn't make sense to me... someone's race is like a sign/label that identifies their heritage/culture. Maybe to some extent, their DNA... So how does one identify as a certain race but has close to no connection with the actual culture itself? Here's how to become Korean - uproot your entire life and abandon citizenship from your origin country and move to Korea. Good luck sir
@lalibelardo1706
@lalibelardo1706 3 года назад
My take on being trans-racial is that you cannot simply say you’re trans- insert any race. People compare this a lot to gender w the argument if a man can identify as a woman why can’t I identify as a different race. It’s bc gender is fluid and is a social construct. Race and ethnicity isn’t. Race is based on your dna, lineage, etc. BUT you can change nationalities. So if Oli wants to be legally Korean he can undergo the legal stuff to do so and be a Korean citizen but just getting surgeries to look a certain way and saying you’re Korean doesn’t mean shit 😅 It’s like being an American citizen but at the end of the day I’m Filipino. I can’t just call myself trans-american and call it a day 😅

The Oli London story reminds me of a white man who identified as a Filipino woman back in 2017. As far I know, this person didn't make any transitions but I haven't heard any updates since. You can appreciate the Filipino culture all you want, but that doesn't mean you can change your race. It's just all weird now.

Its just interesting that someone identifies as a different ethnicity and the appearance they choose to portray or represent that ethnicity is of their pop culture rather then just a “regular” look. It just leaves a thought of doubt that this person is just obsessed with the culture rather then “identifying” with the culture

For the topic of Trans Rights in Sports: People going through a transition with meds, hormones, will lose a lot of their previous strength and speed towards the end of the actual transition. Women transitioning to men will gain a bit of strength. There is no definitive time limit on when it will happen but it has mostly been towards the midpoint of treatment. Now transitioning without injections or surgery is where it gets tricky because they're still very much in their initial gender's body. A lot of the trans community does believe that if you're still in your initial body's side then you should compete for that side because you're not in the same weight class or strength class as the other gender. Then there are those who think it should be a free for all, gender neutral. Also, yes there are a lot of problems with using your Gender or Sexual orientation as a way to get away with doing bad things. There's an ongoing discussion about racism and misogyny within the Lgbtq+ community.

in case David and Ed dont know, the reason why Korea and Japan both have the sauna culture is because of Buddism. Untill the dynasty of Chosun (confucius based society), Korea and Japan had exactly the same culture/way of life because of buddism. But Korea and Japan started to diverge in terms of civilization as a a while because of the adoptation of confucianism as religion since the beginnng of Chosun dynasty. this is also the reason why Korea and China started to become similar civilizations becase they were both confucius. and since the early 19th century, Korea's biggest religion became christianity predominently protestant because of the work of American missionnaires. Japan was accepting christianity (not talking about catholics) from America but brought back Shinoism during the Meiji restoration eras. China was accepting catholics from the Jesuits sent by Italy and France however became a communist state. which is why Dave and Ed and their fams are christians including myself lol

Hi, so I would like to add some information to this Wi Spa "incident" since you didn't mention it at the time of the recording. I'm not sure if anyone else has said anything else in the comments, but so far, I have only watched until the segment of "Is Safety an issue?" was over so I might add things later or edit some. Context: I have a trans friend who recently just came out to their family and friends and i believe it's okay to be slipping up on them pronouns from time to time as I do. My friend is pretty lenient on that. I'd love for you to have a trans person on GeniusBrain btw. Okay, back to the information! I've read some articles that claimed to say that it was a hoax and that the OP cubanangel had a hate agenda. Police also failed to find witnesses at the Wi Spa and Wi Spa itself claims that none of their trans clients had scheduled an appointment that day. (note: I've never been to a Korean sauna so I don't know the works i.e. if you can walk-in or have an scheduled appointment.) I read that a transphobic instagram account posted a picture of a transwoman, alleging that she was that person who exposed themselves at the spa. However, the source that I'm using (transsafety network) reached out to them, and she denied she was there and believes that she is being targeted bc she attended counter protests and posted on social media before. And of course, she started getting harassment and death threats via social media which is scary. You can read more about this on their transsafety network site about the Wi Spa and all those unsavory but important tidbits. I also used the websites: slate and advocate. I'm not sure if I'm using biased sites, but I hope not. ***Edit: As a woman myself, I'd like to say that even if the person existed or not; exposing ANY genitalia on purpose for people to see is fucking disgusting and should probably get reprimanded by an authority figure. All in all, I dislike the harm that the situation has spawned, and I really do hate transphobia and TERFs (trans-exclusionary radical feminists). And the fact that people are doing this in the name of God and Jesus Christ is just ridiculous and makes me upset even though I'm not even of the Christian faith! I fear for my transhomies safety most of all. And you are right with that this is not an overnight change to accommodate to transpeople, heck some states can't get their infrastructure or simple potholes to be fixed. However, this is a social issue that needs to have a sit down talk of explaining, understanding, and unraveling of the history. We are in a midst of a social change with LGBTQ+ being prevalent topic in recent years and I only hope the outcome could get better with time. Thank you for reaching the end and reading all of this. I'm sorry this lengthy but this do be a podcast episode sparking some discussion :)

To be honest, I feel like even though we were trying to talk about transgender people's rights, the conversation ended up being skewed more towards transgenders exposing themselves to minors. In my opinion, this is more of an adult's problem, so wouldn't it make sense to have some age-restricted wi spas? and then gradually as society begins to catch up, this could be a topic that parents could introduce to their children if they want, to better prepare/ explain to them that they aren't in danger in that situation. What do you guys think?
