Look at all the actors in this film from the primary, to the secondary, and the tertiary, all are amazing actors. They pulled together a fantastic cast. Wish they could have been in some other movie together.
This is one of the best movies I've ever watched, and in my opinion, John Frankenheimer is the most unique and talented director to ever make movies. I absolutely love his work.
Of this genre it is, I'd say this blows Bourne away and that's regarded as staple of spy movies. Wasn't particular well received upon release, the script being a bit thin, however the script is pretty good, everything hints towards other activity in the past for these characters
I love this movie. Glad they went with this ending, despite being open ended, it suits the tone of the film. The alternate ending would really kill the vibe. Wish I could have gone to Paris when the bistro/cafe was still around.
I really liked this ending! It was pitch perfect for the story they were telling. Sometimes feedback from test audiences yields good results, that was certainly the case here. Deirdre was a character that was involved with very dangerous people, and I definitely think she realized she was in over her head by the end of the film. There are hints, such as when she and Sam are under cover at the hotel, she's good at what she does, but lacks Sam's experience. Still, to have Deirdre go back to that cafe at the end would've been too naive for the character. It's better this way, and it's a nice moment for Sam's character, who has to make peace with the fact that she's not coming back.
I knew someone once, and for a time it was magical. She was a fan of this film, and she introduced me to Fabrique Nationale. She had good taste in firearms. Vincent: I said, "She would not be coming back here." Sam: She would not be coming back here would she? . . . Vincent: No questions. No answers. That's the business we're in. You accept it and move on. Maybe that's lesson number three... Lesson number four, Cancer is awful. I miss you, and I love you, Patty.
The sequel to this really does a genre shift that oddly compliments this film. Its the film where "Sam" gives Ben Stiller the polygraph exam, brilliantly done.
Jackass...I say that jokingly. When I was younger, I used to wonder if this film was a potential prequel to The Professional. Could've been... Obviously, it wasn't, and I found my own deeper meaning in this film years later.
The actual building in Paris where these scenes at the bar were based [much was actually filmed on set in a studio] was subsequently demolished, razed to the ground and replaced with a new building, which is kind of sad - like this scene.
Always trust your instincts! When there is no doubt, there is room for doubt! Who taught you? I don't remember! Aim with your eye! Shoot with your mind! Kill with your heart! Use imagination to create the moment and opportunity! No questions! No answers! That's the business we're in! The compulsive overriding spiritual need to serve an occult mystery and cosmic power greater then our own desires! We honor it, accept it, live it and move on! Lessons of Lamed Vav....
Ronin, The Shawshank Redemption, and Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan = what I consider to be the three films that epitomize the subtle poignancy of friendship. (It has been awhile since I saw Butch and Sundance, I need to rewatch it for sure)
I remember years ago when I first saw this movie. I KNEW that it was going to be pure dynamite when I saw De Niro walking down the stairs and the music!!! I had never heard of the movie before but it was in a bin at some store most likely a DVD for 5.99 and decided to purchase it. I really lucked out!
I won't lie, and I am a little in wonder when I watch this again. Part of me thinks it would be great to see these two again in this capacity of a movie. what has happened with their lives, where did they go, what did they do and how have they been going through life. But then the other part of me always comes to the conclusion: The ending is PERFECT
@@intansarafinah9692 most they cud do is like maybe a sequel prequel I’m thinking 💭 Man that Grenade did seem to go the F off lol 😂tho with my man Gary oldman character
I love how they left it ambiguous it’s like their could’ve been a sequel when he says “I’ll get the next one” We could’ve had a sequel where they were trying to save Deidre or they showed what happened but I understand it was a perfect ending no questions no answers that’s the type of movie we watched
There was a time where I wondered if Ronin was intended to be a prequel to The Professional. Obviously, this was disproven, but it could have been kinda cool. Granted, the way this ending hits home for me now is another thing entirely (see my other comment about, "lesson #4 cancer is awful..."
@@madhukarjonathanminj2772 tbh I don't know. Probably if both of them can sit in the cafe means she should be safe and the radio discusses about transparency with mercenaries should be addressed rather than kept secretive. Likely she escaped but this part emphasize the bond with the protagonist. She didn't came back because she is not interested in him. Unrequited love.
@@terragaia7092 I posted one more comment on this channel and the uploader of this video responded to it,and provided me with a link to an alternative ending, which was present in some DVDs but didn't really make the final cut(that ending seems a bit dramatic and seems to disrupt the pace of the movie, that is, it seems to be a bit clumsy,in comparison to the rest of the movie, that's why it was most probably removed, atleast that's what i think)That ending shows Deiddrie getting abducted and killed by the IRA
