You were kind enough to reply to one of my comments on another video and you took the time to remind me that even 5 minutes out is good. I have been following that advice for the past several days and it has already brought me so much joy! The city just looks and feels so much different when you are on a bike. Cheers
Damn, dude! Really got me thinking about some of the deep philosophical and existential things in life with this one. The life and death of a neighbourhood. The decay and restoration. The lives past and future. The endless change. But always making sure to find time in the present for the simple joys in life: riding your bike, good coffee, good food, good company. Thanks for another joyous video 💚 Ps. People really just throwing out antique mirrors and furniture to the curb? 😮 that hurts my soul 😅
I got sideswiped by an SUV last month and broke my collarbone. Three weeks after surgery and I'm going bonkers just sitting around. So I fxed the bike yesterday and took a spin around the neighborhood. It was great! Blue skies, almost no wind, warm but not too hot. Perfect!
I discovered the channel a few days ago and finally finished watching all of the videos. What an absolute pleasure. It's genuinely inspiring to see someone so avidly enjoying their life and spreading love for their community. I came for the bikes but stayed for the life goals. This has been profoundly impactful to me. The thought that has occurred to me the most is "For the price of my monthly car payment, I'd much rather just bike around and spend that on great food, coffee... and more bikes."
So I needed bread this morning and the bakery is only 400 metres away. Ended up cycling 5km before getting that loaf of bread and had a chance to pet a stranger's pug. Today's a good day.
I really needed this video today. I recently got a job as a barista after many years of working remote, and I bike there everyday. When I stayed home all day, biking was the best part of my day. It’s weird now, since biking is a commute instead of something I do for fun. Hopefully I can find that balance again where I can enjoy it like I used to!
You convinced me to finally wash my bike and go for a ride after a full year :) Im from London so it was great seeing what neighborhoods in Korea are like and that there are also mosques around. Great video, thanks for sharing!
It's wet and cold down here in Melbourne, Australia, but I went out on a lovely bike ride around a nature path and it was exactly what I needed. I love the cold and the rain, so it was definitely the best part of my day.
No ride is too short, that is so true. I sometimes, after a hectic day, take my bike and just ride it around the block, takes about 2 minutes 😅 And it feels amazing ❤
I just completed watching all of your RU-vid videos in 2 days as I am recovering from a knee procedure. A couple of notes. Everybody is slim - there were maybe 1-2 overweight people I noticed among the countless passing by throughout your journeys. Seoul is remarkably clean. The casual meandering of your bike riding is, as you might say, glorious and a welcome antidote to elitist cycling. Clean bowl club for life. The ride, coffee, lunch, coffee, errand or meetup sounds like a lovely weekend routine to be repeated again and again. Cheers.
I’m loving the videos! I’m in Florida for a few months this summer and the area I’m in is completely car centric and dangerous to bike so I won’t be able to ride until I’m back home. Seeing your videos has been an awesome way to kind of mentally get on the bike while I can’t physically. Thank you so much for that!
I’ve ridden so many different disciplines of bike from downhill mtb to road, bmx, dirt jump and gravel but these videos made me find my favourite one. Slow, pondering meanders through London on a clapped out but beautiful purple steel Raleigh from the 90s that I bought to satisfy the feelings these videos bring me.
Thanks for sharing. In my neighbourhood, it was the same case. And I felt sad when everything was destroyed. I feel like nobody really care about documenting the neighbour before destroying it. And your video is like a testimony of a time.
My new favorite channel. Your videos are so inspiring as a newbie cyclist, and always leave me in a more positive headspace and remind me to appreciate the small things.
This morning I went on a 5 minute ride out to the Christmas tree farm and back. It was still cool out, and the old white mare was out in her paddock enjoying some fresh grass.
When biking’s been central to life, I’ve been more active, peaceful, and analog. And I’ve noticed that I appreciate the best life has to offer when I’m using a bike with a basket. How could such a simple utility improve life? Mostly, it keeps me more active, which makes me feel better, both physically and emotionally. It makes me feel more connected to my community and the people within it, since it’s much easier to make eye contact, say hello, and even exchange a few words of greeting when not sealed up inside of a moving box. *Every bicycle ride is a miniature holiday* The empty basket reminds me that there’s always something I can take to a friend on a short visit-a card, some flowers or fruit from the garden-or a few groceries, some bread or coffee, that I can pick up and bring home without firing up the car. It suggests the possibility of packing a lunch or snack, of throwing a book or magazine into the basket and heading off to a quiet corner of the town or park bench for a mini-vacation. The bike is often the best part of my day, as ProbablyRiding suggests. He’ll often take the long way around or a new route to his favorite coffee shop, stop to take a photo of someone’s flowering trees (with his beloved bike parked in front of them), or bring along some hot tea in a thermos and pour it into a nice vessel to enjoy a river or park view. *Your bike’s identity* Have you named your bike? I have. Where’s it from, and where has it been? Where does it live now, and how often do you have your bike serviced? Where do you stow and retrieve your bike, and where do you like to take it? I keep mine in the garden. It’s visible from the kitchen window, and I like to take it to visit friends and nearby stores. Having a bike with a basket is a cheap, fun way to quickly get back to the good stuff. Fresh air, freedom, and a purpose for your ride. Much like being a kid with a bike. For all of these reasons (and probably many more), I intend to have a bike with a basket until I die. Even if it eventually become recombinant, electrified, an oversized tricycle, or some combination of these.
I knew it was the Orient at first, but I was only guessing South Korea for a while. Seeing the English on the signs gave it away. Those narrow streets with the hills and the alleyways are intriguing to me. Makes me wonder about the street lighting. My shortest rides tend to be out to the supermarket and back. About two miles each way, so around 15 minutes total. Especially so when it's 100 degrees F, plus or minus, outside.
This was such a great reminder to go on more casual rides, just for fun and to explore areas I haven't seen before. I'm so glad your video popped into my feed. Can't wait to watch more!
So glad i came across your channel. Im a somewhat passionate commuter as well who's slowly going down the rabbit hole of custom bikes. Really enjoy the simplicity of your videos. Keep em going 🌞
I just got back from riding my bike to a thrift store by me, just 3 or 4 blocks. It was so lovely and I got to try out the new milk crate I just put on the back of my bike!
Three minutes to the grocery store from my home by bike or car. I usually bike but today was feeling lazy and thought to drive... but then this video pops up on my recommended list! Ok universe, I will take the bike!
I've just gotten into bikes over the last couple of months - mostly using free city bikes in my city. My rides have lasted for around 20-30 minutes tops as I commute or meet with friends. As I've been researching bikes I find most of the options are geared towards fast, drop bar road bikes - which are nice! but seeing your approach and philosophy to riding has been a wonderful breath of fresh air. Thanks for doing what you do
Thank you. City bikes are a good way to go for nice short rides. The bike industry is definitely geared towards racing which I think puts a lot of people off riding bikes.
I remember happening on a very old corner of Seoul a few years ago (even older than the area around the mosque, probably from the 50s/60s) which was only just being demolished. I thought it was something worth preserving like Gamcheon in Busan but the developers got there first. Feels sad to see another area go like that.
Patially agree: For me it may not be the best part of my day, but it's always in my top 3-5, depending on what else I did that day. I currently do 42km XC rides, for enjoyment and exercise, on a repurposed abandoned traintrack, called The NE Tassie Railtrail. My rig is an old Avanti 26" HT built from two bikes from the tip ($5 each) + new and quality 2nd hand parts, the bike cost me under $150 AU. In the warmer seasons I do predawn rides, dawn by the time I return to the car ( 3.5hr ride). Riding past paddymelons (small wallabies...who have a habit of being spooked, run out of the bush across the track right in front of me), possums, rabbits, wild pidgeons and a few tiny bats in the few ravines cut out for the trains long gone. In the winter, zero degree and under due to windchill, I tend to start around 7-8am. It's still often zero, but the fingers aren't in pain (the only body part that suffers). And sometimes, with intermittent spitting or it's heavily overcast, itching for a ride, I'll chance it and do shorter rides. This morning I did 21 kms. And it began to rain 5 minutes after I got back in the car. So even though it's slightly disappointing to miss out on a 3hr ride, the short run was the right choice. Didn't get wet. Had more energy to push hard on the return, and had a fun ride. Don't mind getting drenched on the return run in warm weather, but not in winter. With that, I agree with you, any ride is a good ride.
@@probablyriding I think so. Often it's the best, but I can't discount a hearty breakfast of scrambled eggs ( fried in pure butter and himalayan salt) bacon, fried tomatoes, onion and shrooms (in butter)...or completing a huge or small job around the shack. One of my favs this year was straightening the old dried out wooden mower shed that houses two of my bikes. Two huge truck straps, wall studs from the tip for angle bracing and steel cable + D bolts for one corner that couldn't be fully aligned. The shed was leaning 10 degrees. Took me two days, but it's now straight and won't fall over for years to come.
Great content, calm and peaceful! You're really inspiring and when I watch one of your videos I remind myself to slow down and enjoy the moment! Thank you!☕
Totally agree! I recently started doing a 15-minute ride before work. I didn't try it for a long time because I thought it was too short, but it's been great.
Thanks to you, I got to see the old Bogwang-dong village disappear. It was a smelly and old village, but I liked it. There were a lot of Middle Eastern restaurants, so I used to go there sometimes. I hope the restaurants will continue to remain.
One of your videos wound up on my feed a few weeks ago and since then, your channel has quickly become my comfort channel. I'm not much of a bike rider myself but am now feeling inspired to get back on. I'd love to know what is the front basket on your bike?
@@probablyriding Yes a lot of people say it doesn't work. The only cycling vids I watch now and again is Brian Safah. So it is interesting why yours popped up. ATB
Very nice video thank you ! Hey could you please do a video on the handlebars and why you use them. They seem strange and awkward and at the same time comfortable and so nicely retro and beautiful. And then ... How do these work with shifters?
I'm going to try to do a short ride today, but with the high temperature today being 93°F (about 38°C) with high humidity, and it's only going to get hotter as the week goes on, I'm not sure if it'll be the best part of my day.
