My problem was that TV audio was muted in 'Levels' tab. That's weird because I never did that and I'm the only user of my laptop.

Thanks man for your help. Turns out the tv was disabled in sound playback for some reason so i enabled it and it started working.

Hi it doesnt give me option to let me set my tv as default device i have followed steps you gave me and even went another page which says you can update drivers but all my drivers are uptodate and it has 2 of same options for hdmi on sound playback menu. Im using a hd port adaptor and have my hdmi plugged in the adaptor but no sound

What if I have no hard drive on my dell 9030 aio and want to use it as ps4 monitor? Also have no sound via hdmi.

My Multiple displays is Duplicate these displays but the Apply button at bottom is not highlighted so it doesn't do anything when I click on it. However I ave picture on both monitor and TV. When I click on Playback Devices on Sound icon only Speakers show and no TV shows. How do I get the Playback Devices to show the TV as well as the speakers?

My video card is only 3 years old so it doesn't have hdml nor have I heard of it. It has one plug for the TV and three display ports and a cable for the TV that cost me $30 but that is hdmi port and it actually does have sound included. I suspect that using an hdml in a hdmi port will kill the sound?

my problem was that i set my default audio device to HDMI and it said sound was playing through it but i couldn't hear anything, it worked on my bluetooth speaer, and on my PS3 it worked on the TV

Thanks for a video. Lost my sound all of a sudden today, no sound from computer to TV through HDMI chord, all of a sudden, all the sets looked correct, i tried different HDMI cable - i have picture but the sound is gone. That wasn't pretty at all on the first day off i got in 2 weeks. My problem was that somehow in the audio icon in Audio devices screen there were only speakers, but my TV option disappeared from there all of a sudden, just fell out from there, somehow I was able to get that option back and everything started to work. That was super annoying and I wouldn't wish my enemy this crappy experience !

I have tried everything and I have no high definition audio device under sound settings. I get video through hdmi to my tv but no audio. Second video i have watched on this subject that was useless! Im about ready to reload windows completely!

If anyone's still struggling with this, you need to download a utility program called "custom resolution utility" click in the first link that comes up and follow instructions. I have a 1 minute video on my channel on how to fix it.

Solution (at least for my problem): I use a monitor and TV (this one on hdmi), I unplugged the monitor which as on DVI connector, and the computer wouldn't show the TV as audio output. Plugged it back in and restarted it, tv was again in the audio options.

even simpler way, plug in cable, then go to volume icon, right click, then click playback devices, and you will see your tv make press your tv icon and ok, simples

My TV is set as Disconnected on that 'Sound' window. Actually I already knew all this, but suddenly TV seems to be disconnected on sound even if I have image on it. I can't watch Seinfeld now.
