how to understand and jump the relay circuits for a no start this explains the terminals of the relays the control side and the load side. the social explains how to test the ignition switch in all fuses by jumping the relay and activating the starter motor. always make sure to jump the load side and not the control side. this also helps you understand if it is the park neutral switch or a relay problem. 12 volts goes to the relay and it also helps you understand the terminals which are marked on the relay itself. no start problems how to understand the relay

Joe Thank you for sharing your knowledge. You have been better than any instructor on RU-vid and school I have come across.

Thank you for your compliments and there are a lot of great teachers of mechanics on RU-vid but thank you so much

What if hypothetically the relay was not labelled and I identified the pins to jump by checking for power at the contacts where relay sits. Would I jump the two contacts that have power?

Thank you so much hopefully when you see the hands on you'll understand that much clearer I just have so many projects to do

If you jump the relay aren't you bypassing the ignition switch completely? I don't think it proves the ignition switch is good if you can jump the starter at the fuse box...or am I missing something
@Joeelectronicschematicsforauto
@Joeelectronicschematicsforauto 2 года назад
What you're jumping is the load side the contacts of the relay you're not jumping the ignition switch therefore this is after the ignition switch if you look at the schematic the relay is after the ignition switch
@MacAutoDiag
@MacAutoDiag 2 года назад
@@Joeelectronicschematicsforauto correct which means jumping it at the relay could not prove that the ignition switch is functional right? Because in the video you said jumping it at the relay proves that the ignition switch works...I'm just trying to understand

@@MacAutoDiag jumping the side of the relay 87 to 30 when you start the ignition switch and the start position that means you have voltage to the relay and the starter motor if the ignition switch would not be good when you jump the relay nothing would start including obviously the starter motor

I think it is very important to point out that jumping across the control side of the relay is a short to ground because it needs a load, such as a test light.

Yes thank you I think I didn't mention that in other videos you don't want to jump that you want to jump obviously the contacts side that's why I always point out 87 to 30

I have the same no crank problem. I want to know if its possible to install cables in the relay and run cables into the car so i can jump the relay from inside the car instead of removing the relay and jumping it every time. please let me know your opinion. thanks
@Joeelectronicschematicsforauto
If you're referring to the starter relay you have to put a switch and also the right gauge wires remembering not to put the wires next to any hot surfaces but the fact that you have to jump the relay every time is a major problem obviously
@Joeelectronicschematicsforauto
What make and model is is the car because obviously there's more of a problem than just trying to wire it

Hi. What happens when you jump pin 85 to pin 86 I mistakenly did this with the run/crank relay and smoked something thx
@Joeelectronicschematicsforauto
@Joeelectronicschematicsforauto 2 года назад
Remember that's the coil side you're jumping the coil so basically b+ is going to ground a short the ground it'll take a lot of things with it unfortunately that's why my video I stressed that point to be careful which ones to jump but thank you Linda for your question I hope not too much damage was done
