how to diagnose fuel pump problems from wiring diagram part 1 this explains how to figure out and troubleshoot if the control side and load side of the relay is working also the computer signal is triggering the control side the fuel pump is of no access and troubleshooting should be beginning at the relay output,

This video is very clear and informative. An easier way to check a relay is to make sure its coil is energized and then putting the meter across its contacts and measuring the voltage. If there is 12 volts, that means the contacts have a problem and the relay has not switched. If we measure 0 volts, that could mean two things. 1) The relay is working perfectly. 2) The load is not getting the ground. This is my first appraoch when I test relays in live circuits. The key point is that a closed swich will have 0 volts across its contacts.

Exactly that's why I always say go to terminal 87 to see if you have 12 v that is the key point to measure and it tells you if everything else before it works in one shot I have a video on that how to measure relays and circuits for fuel pumps on Joel trying to schematics for Auto thank you for your comment

I don't think u will have 12v too pump if you don't depress the brake peddle, and also press the start switch, like in the start mode???

Hi, I have 99 ford f450 6.8 v10 and I have low fuel pressure. I change, fuel regulator, fuel pump, MAF sensor, fuel filter and intake air temp sensor. I think my two speed fuel pump relay is having issue. I checked the fuel pump harness plug with a multimeter and it showed 6volts on the power end. Im wondering will the relay cause low fuel pressure?

Thanks joe for your great video.. but i want to know what is responsible for activation of the relay in the first few seconds then it is deactivated till i continue switching on the car motor ? Is there timer circuit or something like that ?

Computer has control of everything when you first turn it on the starter motor engages the flywheel and the crankshaft in order to continue spinning it needs the fuel pump

Hi Joe, question, can a short input affect and output signal, for a clicking sensor front of the engine, ex IAC and Purge valve? Thx
@Joeelectronicschematicsforauto
@Joeelectronicschematicsforauto 3 года назад
If you're asking the input signal is shorted then there cannot be an output for example if a sensor is the input to a computer PCM then the PCM cannot react with an output but this should not be a clicking noise
@armory3379
@armory3379 3 года назад
@@Joeelectronicschematicsforauto exacly yes, exemple if there is a short on the Fuel tank pressure sensor remaining high voltage! And the Idle air control valve clicking on and off and the Purge valve, because the FTPressure sensor it is a 5 volt reference, and don’t know if is shorted.

Joe my 1990 Dodge d150 has a grey wire and a blk on pin 87a. All new relays don't have 87a what is the function of these two wires.
@Joeelectronicschematicsforauto
87a is in the default or the resting position when it's not activated as soon as the relay is activated it goes from 87 to the pin of 32 make the contact for the fuel pump
@Joeelectronicschematicsforauto
That's from pinned 87 to pin 30 sorry I gave you a spelling error of pain 32 it spin 87 to pin 30

Sir can I ask a question? I'ved watched a video spool valve, a valve for water, their is also a coil, when its energize the spool valve will be push away...now I ask the uploader of that video.How does a spool valve being push away when the coil is being energized? When the current pass to wire it creates electromagnetism,so therefore it will pull the valve instead of pushing?Then he replied,(their is a right-hand law it will create a force that pushes a spool to opposite side instead of pulling..)I tell him..(you mean the initial energy from the magnetic flux on the coil as a current flow through causes to push the spool valve?) He replied yes! Exactly!...Now sir,if that energy is present when the coil inside a relay is being energize creating electro magnetic force,then how can the switch contact be magnetized to close from 87a to 87 switch contact of relay?
@Joeelectronicschematicsforauto
@Joeelectronicschematicsforauto 3 года назад
And the relay circuit the control side the coil has inductance and also creates a magnetic field electromagnetic field on the other side the load side you need the two contacts to close that is done by an armature which is brought down as a result of electrical magnetic field in the coil on the contacts closed they make contact to the other circuit that is the click that you hear in automotive relays when the load circuit is magnetized and activated by the coil side it's actually one circuit a low current circuit controlling a high current circuit
@Joeelectronicschematicsforauto
@Joeelectronicschematicsforauto 3 года назад
Find the contacts closing one side of the contact goes to 12 volts and the other side goes to the load being a fuel pump or any component now you have a path for current to flow it's like a switch that is closed and opened by another circuit
@mr.technician4144
@mr.technician4144 3 года назад
@@Joeelectronicschematicsforauto sorry sir...I haved a little confuse about the right hand law..the pushing initial energy created by the magnetic field...then if that so....how it will magnet? If their's pushing force?

Your diagram only shows 2 wired going to the fuel pump. There are 6 wires going to plug on top of the plug!!! Where are the 4 othere wires??
@TheIrongutz
@TheIrongutz 3 года назад
Just meter your relay and meter your relay receptacle to make sure you have constant power to the relay, that back tests the computer. Your making this way to complicated.
@Joeelectronicschematicsforauto
@Joeelectronicschematicsforauto 3 года назад
I get many questions about relays and how to test them to fuel pumps in circuit because everybody either jumps the relay or just gives power which is not correct the other thing about the computer how many people will know which wire goes back to the computer and how to back probate in order to do that you have to have the right tools
