This was a mint scene between Daniel Craig and and Ralph Fiennes. Shows a more antagonistic side to the Bond/M relationship. Even more so than some of the older movies.
Very realistic, that’s the attitude of someone who knows they are wrong and still try’s to act like they are right. And James calls him out on his bullshit at every opening.
"If you've nothing left to give, you are irrelevant. You've done your bit and we thank you for your service. Again. Goodbye." The film's attitude toward Bond summed up perfectly.
Yeah bond flying into space or dress up like a clown doesn't sum up or when he was asked to resign in licence to kill. It's only a problem because he die or i don't like a film so i will find every possible dialogue to whine about it even when same happen dozens of times in previous movies 🤣🤣
Imagine if M had the personality of Harry from In Bruges (another Ralph Fiennes performance). Bond: "No offense, Mallory. I mean no disrespect, but you're a c**t. You've always been a c**t. You and your c**t fucking weapon." M: "You leave my fucking weapon out of it!" Bond: "You're right, I'm sorry. I retract it." M: "Insulting my weapon, that's going overboard mate!" Bond: "I retracted it, didn't I!?"
“He’s still got it. Only James Bond can speak to Voldemort like that and get away with it!” (I got the idea from a Holly line from the first Die Hard movie. “He’s still alive. Only John can drive somebody that crazy!”)
This was such a refreshing scene, because Mallory consistently cocked things up and it was great to finally see him called out on it, especially since it's Bond that ultimately suffers the most for his bad decisions. The scene really underscores the difference between Judi Dench's M and this one, as well, from the lack of professionalism to the bitterness. Mallory couldn't take his emotion out of the equation, and didn't have the mind for the job to gain and sustain respect. He had Bond and his own staff turn against him, all in an effort to do what is right. He failed as a leader, in about the biggest way one can.
@@ABMultimediaDesigner That's ultimately why people like Bond exist, though. To competently right the wrongs of those who fail to live up to their duties. And thank the heavens for them, because we'd be extinct by now without them.
@@WhiteScarsEmo Can't imagine it. She was very much aligned with Bond's thinking, of putting power in more stable hands, and not investing so heavily in a system that could easily be turned into a weapon of war. Heracles created the very thing she warned about during her inquest: an enemy without nation or obvious motivation could use it to wreak havoc with complete cover. Before it was noticed, whole races or other sects of the population could be swiftly wiped out. It would be a far cry from the old school ways she was used to, which is another reason I think she'd refuse to support it. As she said in "Casino Royale": "Christ, I miss the Cold War."
That M still respected Leiter but knew that other governments were handling it and Bond would only get in the way which he did multiple times. Bond was so blinded by his anger he repeatedly messed up the legitimate and lawful takedown of Sanchez
Love how Fiennes plays M, great actor... tbh though M as a character really drops the fu*king ball in this film 🤣 Like, wasn't he the one in Spectre sceptical about all these modern warfare/espionage techniques? Yeah, cyber surveillance is a big no-no, but a weaponised virus? Totally cool.
I guess he grew sick of car crashes, car chases, MPs getting shot, exploding watches, exploding buildings and hoped to kill the crims by throwing some kind of selective ebola lmao
He was a guy who was ordered to babysit mad scientist's pet project approved way higher than he and which probably would be nothing but big waste of time. Except it wasn't and got stolen and mad scientist went AWOL as well. Never came orders to shut it down either so he just let it roll. As flawed as Gareth Mallory was he was first to step forth as man in charge of whatever shitstorm just blew loose and he was absolutely right: he doesn't answer to his underlings: he answers to His Majesty's government.
He’s a case of the kind of worker that got caught up in the business, happens more often than you think, that’s why M had control of what she was doing and who to trust, she just got real lucky it was Bond and other relationships in governments she gained throughout the years, Mallory didn’t have the same kind of circle it seems, so he fell victim to the very control he sworn against to get ahead It’s sad honestly, but like I said, it happens to the best of people, that business of trade and barter why it’s not meant for everyone
Bond's not wrong about Mallory's mistakes in creating Heracles. The dangers far outweigh any benefits if it fell into the wrong hands, which is exactly what happened. Entire ethnicities could have been wiped out for good.
But if Heracles was real it would be near the perfect weapon and not very easy to perfect and replicate, criminals and governments would need top expert chemists, physicists and microbiologists etc. I can understand M intentions Heracles would only target certain individuals and their relatives so your near guaranteed to kill the target without harming or killing anyone else. Furthermore, no one could be prosecuted because so many people would be infected with Heracles before reaching a target you wouldn't know who infected who, also being "off the books" the creators would denied Heracles existed.
I understand why they developed such a weapon from a strategic point of view. However, that does not make it better. As you said, a weapon of such power is too risky to simply exist, you cannot guarantee that only you yourself will hold onto it forever.
@@WhiteScarsEmo And they are not even to blame, that's the sad thing. As soon as new weapon technology drops you can either get one for yourself, or fall behind other nations in influence. Because it's really really hard to trust nations.
@@Mediados I remember my junior high science teacher telling us about nitroglycerin. (This was in the early-90's, long before we had issues with domestic terrorism and school/spree shooters.) It was so volatile to manufacture in quantities that counties banned it. Alfred Nobel managed to find a way to stabilize it and created dynamite. The military applications were obvious and major powers were trying to get as much of it, or ways to manufacture it on their own or make it better.
@@deangraves7462 Since you're obviously knowledgable about D&D I can use references: Lawful Evil comes in many forms, and most are not honorable. If you're a backstabbing asshole you're not honorable or dutiful, but still lawful if you have a ruleset you follow. Both Gortash and Thorm are Lawful Evil, but one is true to his word in every bargain while the other treats his subordinates like shit.
this gives me the idea that before the previous m died, she must have influences Mallory into believing bond was reckless annd insubordinate so now seeing this meeting it shows that Mallory is swayed by m influence on her beliefs of bond
@@stephenkoranteng6260 Same here if they were to ever talk to me like that first. And ditto for my father if they were to try to provoke him in any way.
When they said Fiennes was gonna replace Dench as M I thought, hmm the Bernard Lee callback has begun (Lee played M in Dr No, and I identified Mallory as Lee's M), but I admit I had doubts. What I got in SPECTRE and NTTD was an M who was flawed but good, cocked up and was willing to admit that he did but couldn't say anything because he was following the interests of the UK. You have to admit, that's some character development in just two movies, and Fiennes' acting sells it.
Hated Mallory in this movie and I decided to remove No Time to Die from the list of Bond movies that I know of. Too heartbreaking and depressing for a Bond enthusiast like me.
@@allenkirk555 love that’s it different to Dench. She was more maternal. Mallory and Bond have that respect for one another but have never seen eye to eye
Ralph perfect be James Bond like Pierce Brosnan than Daniel Craig.I hope Bond 26 will return to Commenwealth director like Christopher Nolan/Matthew Vaughn/Steve Mcqueen/Edgar Wright/Tom Hooper/Joe Wright/Martin Campbell/Sam Mendes.
Yeah, while it seems likely they'll reboot the series again, don't see why Ralph Fiennes shouldn't be allowed to continue as M. Judi Dench continued as M from the Brosnan era after the series was rebooted for the Craig era.
Excellent Pay off to the antagonist scene between M and Bond in Casino Royale. In that scene M criticizes Bond for not seeing the bigger picture. In this scene, the roles are reverse with Bond being the one to see the big picture, while M busy nursing his ego.
I saw an audition clip of Sam Neill trying for the role. I think Fiennes could've done the role justice as a cold professional like Sean Connery did and Neill could've done the same with the Roger Moore charisma and quips.
People already accept it as one of the greatest Bond films ever made, and those who still don't can't be thought about or their opinions taken seriously.

My observation pertaining to No Time To Die is Saffin was not the main villain but it's Millroy (M). The Nanobots was he's creation and not Saffin. It would have been much better if Saffin was colluding with a rogue M and bond killed both or killed Saffin and exposed M and got him arrested. The film was poorly written for a pointless self sacrifice of James bond which was unnecessary. In other words M killed Bond..Saffin was just a tool.
Um, Mallory secretly commissioned Valdo Obruchev to make the nanobots. Obruchev was the true creator of Project Heracles, with or without M or Lyutsifer Safin, that slimy cockroach Obruchev would’ve gleefully unleashed it.
I see M to become the main antagonist in a future James Bond movie----without James Bond of course but someone would get revenge on M for Bond's murder. I think M would order Bond killed and see his own personal treachery.
WHo was the best actor to never play Bond? James Brolin had the face, body and the athletic ability but he couldn't do the English voice. Sam Neill is the best at projecting menace but he can't do fight scenes. Daniel Craig damn near tore up his body doing the stunt work for his Bond movies. Here's what I think: if you're going to use a stunt man anyway, just get the best actor, period. I have the same problem with the Batman movies, it's going to be a stunt man in the suit anyway so what difference does it make.
Worst "James Bond" ever, not to mention, the worst "M" ever. Michael G. Wilson should be congratulated for taking the world's foremost movie franchise and turning it into the 2st century version of "Second City."
Such a stupid script - although last part of movie is You only live twice book - the Poison garden and shatterhand / why can’t they just do a book properly instead of cherry picking bits
