One thing that a lot of people seem to miss about Bond being infected - it's not just that he can't touch Madeline or his daughter... he can't touch ANYONE. If he does, the nanobots will start jumping from person to person until they eventually reach the people it is designed to kill.

My history with Bond goes back a little further, and tho I really like most of the Bonds going back to Sean Connery, I feel the same way - Craig's Bond - is by far the most nuanced and believable. It helps, I'm sure, that the overall direction of his era was darker if not even more realistic. RIght down to Fienes as M. *yes, I know Connery wasn't the first.

The final song, and Bond's last words are "We have all the time in the world" are very classic in the Bond history. It comes from Her Majesty's Secret Service (which imo also happens to be the best book) with George Lazenby. The Craig Bonds are a wild ride, and I definitely appreciate them more having watched them all together. Even the weaker movies grew on me over time, and a new viewer such as yourself is able to appreciate them more than a lot of us 'haters' could have at the time. The "70's looking" Aston is the 1986 Aston Martin V8 "Vantage" previously used in the Timothy Dalton Bond era along with the convertible version called the "Volante". This film is the first time four different models have appeared in a 007 film: the DB5, the classic Aston Martin V8, the super GT - DBS and the exceptional Aston Martin Valhalla - the forthcoming mid-engined hypercar.

On the other hand, it sort of did happen in the novel ('From Russia with Love') - the novel ended with Bond being poisoned, apparently dying, but Fleming changed his mind later, that's why the next one begins with Bond's recovery. The end of 'No time' would be difficult to walk off.
@alfonsobiggers2452
@alfonsobiggers2452 Месяц назад
@@wojtek5385 For me, the decision to kill James Bond is still baffling. From a meta-story perspective, killing Craig's Bond makes sense in order to wipe the slate clean for whatever the filmmakers at EON want to do next. However, despite coming close on occasion, James Bond doesn't die. He has endured as a character for over 60 years now (in cinema, over 70 in novel form) without needing to explain away his constant presence. He was always out there to save the world, but I suppose that is not the case today. On top of that, his death here becomes more contrived the more I think about it. The arbitrary time limit on the missiles makes no sense, can't they be aborted? Why are the nano-bots eternal? Bond has an EMP watch, but that can't affect the nano-bots why? What are Safin's motivations behind returning from escaping in order to shoot Bond with NO BACKUP? I may be coming off as unfair, but if I am to buy the premise of something that has never been done before in killing the one and only James Bond, the scenario must be airtight. Frankly, it is not. I guess my final word on this is that, theoretically, killing Bond could be done. However, after seeing the manner in which this film approached the subject, I am not convinced.

Great reaction Coby like always. This is the one Bond movie that had me on the edge of my seat and hit me emotionally when I first watched it. I've been asking for a movie that finally kills James Bond for years because seeing him survive so many impossible stuff so many times made me roll my eyes but when they finally did it it's in a movie where I don't want him to die. But now the Bond Frachise can cast anyone they want to be Bond, because now the name would be a homage to MI6 best spy “James Bond” so the next agent could be called “James Bond” as a Code like 007. That conversation between Bond and Madelleine at the end is my favorite moment of the entire Bond series. After all the years of Bond being this man who was doing everything and anything he could for his country, in the Craig era he allowed himself to also be a caring, broken, vulnerable man. It's the culmination of years of cold, and calous moves to keep the world safe, and this final moment exists solely for him. It's a beautiful, yet tremendously sad moment, and it makes me cry every time I see it. I'm sure some may disagree that that isn't "James Bond", but I'd argue it's the REAL James Bond, and we were only allowed a few small glimpses of it through the entire arc of his films. Ana de Armas stole the show love that. A behind-the-scenes clip shows Armas training with firearms including machine guns, and there's another clip that shows her rigorous physical combat training too. That's a huge commitment for a character who is only on screen for around 10 minutes. There some fun-facts about this one. The motorcycle stunt was the hardest stunt in the movie. according to stunt coordinator Lee Morrison, it was the hardest stunt to shoot in the whole movie, despite there being others much more intricate. The reason it was so difficult was that it was such a bumpy and slippery ride, as the roads in Matero, Italy, are paved with cobblestones. Morrison said it was the "worst he ever shot on." The Louis Armstrong song used in this movie is also a from another Bond movie, that was also the song heard at the close of this movie as Madeleine drives into the tunnel and the scene fades to black. The tranquil fury and classic smolder are just a couple of the many Bond mannerisms and behaviors that Daniel Craig nails, and it isn't hard to believe that'd it'd make anybody speechless when seeing it in person. That's exactly what happened to Rami Malek. The actor told in a interview that he forgot his lines, saying, "'Oh, this is because I'm looking straight at James Bond.' I couldn't handle it. It isn't the first time this has happened”. Keep up the good work.

The psychology of a 007 is different than that of normal people,e with past heart aches. No Time To Die revisits the possibility of him opening himself up again. Hence the revisiting vespers grave and then closing back up the moment he feels betrayed again

I did actually expect Craig's Bond to die in his final movie, since it fits with the themes of NTTD and the Craig era. Themes of NTTD: * Retirement * End of the old glories of MI6 * Absolute disappearance of the faces that Bond met * Permanent loneliness * Disappearance of the 'spy Bond' due to his blood family Themes of the Craig era: * Bond being always a locus of pain and disaster for innocent people * Presentation of a world that might be better off without Bond * James with allies who need him, yet look down on him at the same time * Bond's eternal & tormenting struggle against decay His death would have upset me in another adventure with another version of the character (say, Roger Moore's Bond or Pierce Brosnan's Bond) or in a story that didn't have the themes from NTTD. So I feel like Bond's death was a unique, cohesive and faithful way to end the Craig era.
@rowaystarco
@rowaystarco 4 месяца назад
And the Craig era is the most coherent Bond era by far. It follows one long storyline and is an another universe than the other Bond films. Vesper was his Tracy, but in the end James ended up being the Tracy Bond for Madeleine instead. Him dying was the most fitting thing to do, but it was great that he after taking so many lives in the end also created life. That being said, it's absolutely possible James Bond has a bunch of offspring all over the place...

Such an amazing and sad movie. Both Felix and James dying was something I never expected. I knew this was going to be Daniel Craig's last film as James Bond, but I was not expecting him to die. Ana de Armas as Paloma was amazing. I have heard that she may get her own stand-alone film as Paloma. That would be great. Bond saying you have all the time in the world and the song We Have All The Time In The World are from the 1969 Bond film On Her Majesty's Secret Service, which is one of the better films in the series. Billie Eilish is the youngest singer in the history of the Bond films to sing a song for a Bond film. The actor who played the doctor also played Mikhail Gorbachev in the HBO series Chernobyl. The first time I saw Rami Malek in anything was also an HBO series, The Pacific. He played Merriel "Snafu" Shelton, a Marine who served in the Pacific theater during World War Two. He survived the war. I have a book that was published to coincide with the release of No Time To Die called Being Bond. It is a retrospective look at Daniel Craig's time as James Bond. Another great film reaction as always.

Just a few interesting points.... "We have all the time in the world" and the music playing as they drive down by the lake is from an earlier Bond film (I will not say which one - spoilers). 5:25 I can't say I agree that dating Vesper was not a big deal. Yes, it was very short, but he fell in love with her. It's strongly implied that he never had anything like that with anyone before. He was going to quit MI6 for her. That's why the betrayal itself was such a big deal. But Bond also knew that it was more complicated, because Vesper was coerced into it -- and she killed herself for Bond (like Mathis says in QoS "she died for you.") This is also why he spent all of QoS wanting revenge. In this particular Bond universe anyway, falling in love with Vesper is an essential part of the origin story.

@criminalcontent just a word of warning, the earlier films aren't as weighty as the modern DC era films, they're still good in their own right, they're just a little less serious and a bit more fun.

@@Paul_Allaker8450sorry, but I have to disagree with you there! The first 4 Bond films with Sean Connery and the 6th film, OHMSS with George Lazenby are pretty much faithful to their respective Fleming novels and are, for the most part, serious spy films! Yes, the Bond films added the gadgets and humour that was mostly missing from the books, but those 5 films, plus the two Timothy Dalton films, are IMO some of the best Bond films ever, and with the exception of Craig’s first, Casino Royale, the other 4 films in his run don’t come anywhere near the Connery, Lazenby and Dalton movies I’ve mentioned. In fact, Timothy Dalton’s portrayal of Bond was nearly 20 years ahead of their time, compared to how Craig has played Bond since 2006!

I'm so happy you liked Craig's movies. I would recommend watch some other ones with the previous Bonds: Goldfinger and From Russia with Love with Connery, On Her Majesty's Secret Service with Lazenby, The Spy Who Loved Me with Moore, Licence to Kill with Dalton, and Goldeneye and Tomorrow Never Dies with Brosnan. Also, with him I'm sure you would love the remake of The Thomas Crown Affair.

The number 007 does have significance. Ian Fleming, the creater of Bond, was a Bristish intelligence officer and drew on his real life experience to create Bond. Fleming wanted Bond to be a bland individual and wanted him to have a bland name, so he took the name of a famous American ornithologist named James Bond because he thought it was a blandest name he ever heard. This had real life consequences, however, because MI-6 did actually have an agent named James Bond in the field who had to be recalled for his own safety and spent the rest of his career on desk duty because it was dangerous to use him. In his books Fleming created the "00 Branch" which was a special department of MI-6 for elite secret agents, and, upon earning the "00" designation, they were given a license to kill. The agents of the 00 Branch were given the most dangerous missions and also functioned as assassins. In the books the number after 00 had no special meaning and was just a designation for agents, but in real life Fleming used 007 because it was a reference to what was considered the most important achievement in British intelligence history, the breaking of Germany's diplomatic code in WW1. The document that was broken was catalogued as Document 0075, but it was often just refered to as 007.

I don't now if anyone's mentioned it yet. The 00 means they have a license to kill, in other words, the agent has full discretion as to how to go about a mission, they don't need to check in with HQ to make a hard decision, if they think killing is necessary then they have license to do it. The next number is just the agent.

I bought a new suit to see 007 after waiting a year for it and not doing anything social for so long. I considered investing in a tux but figured it would be overkill without a date and the taylors were backloged at the time.

I have very much enjoyed watching you react to the Craig era Bonds and hope you go back to the first Bond and watch them all. The only issue I can see from starting with Craig is that some of the questions you were asking would have been answered by understanding the history and lore. There are lots of visual and musical cues that would be instantly recognisable. I also think the constant question as to whether Bond dies may not have come up. However, great work Coby and I hope to see more of your reactions.

After the emotionally draining climax of NO TIME TO DIE, you should treat yourself to Hitchcock's most colorful film: TO CATCH A THIEF. In this romantic thriller, Cary Grant plays John Robie aka "The Cat", a notorious jewel thief. Set against the French Riviera, this film has the color, locale, and rooftop chase scenes you love. The love interest, Francie Stevens, is played by Grace Kelly in one of three films she made with Hitchcock. The screenplay is by John Michael Hayes who also adapted REAR WINDOW.

As a Norwegian, patriotism compels me to cheer for any use of our country in a major international movie. 😂 The Atlantic Ocean Road is of course a major attraction. The kid show on TV is a real Norwegian show. Others have said it, but I must share my own feelings. I knew, once I first heard the line "We have all the time in the world" followed by the song, that this was not going to have a happy ending, and I dreaded it. I wondered if they would kill Madeline, but once we learned of the daughter, it clinched it. They were not going to kill a child or leave her motherless. Also, there were rumours already. Originally, the director was going to be Danny Boyle, but supposedly he left because he didn't want to kill Bond. But personally, I think it fits the entire Craig run. They started with Bond *becoming* 007, and the subsequent movies stood more like chapters in a story, rather than mostly self-contained stories like before. I think it stood to reason that it would have a definite end too. And for someone like Bond, there could really only be one end. Bond ending up as a happy family man? I don't think so. Anyway, I enjoyed it. I find the whole Craig run an entertaining watch, despite the sad ending. And I'm looking forward to your reactions to the older Bond movies. They have their ups and downs. Some are really outlandish. Some are more down to earth. Some are, at times, very silly. Some are more serious. Each actor has some unique interpretation of the character. You won't see Bond die again. But.

In universe the 007 codesign is literally just a number. The 00 means he's an agent with a license to kill, so I'd assume there's 9 double 0s, assuming they don't use triple 0. Also assuming they don't do stuff like 0027 or something. We had 006 in Goldeneye, and 009 was referenced in the previous film.

Great reaction. Even if it doesn't rank among the best "finales" of film franchises, I think it's still a good movie. 🙂 I watched it 6 times in the theaters. It's like a "What if...? / Elseworld" story about James Bond being past his prime and living a last fantasy of true romance, while there is a kinda evil MI6. I love that the production team took risks with this movie in particular. I cried with the ending and that's something I gonna remember fondly as a James Bond fan. I was introduced to the 007 franchise thanks to Daniel Craig and I gonna miss him a lot as the character. Of course this isn't the end of the franchise. There is going to be a new Bond actor and he will start a new arc/take/era for this character (as has always happened). ;)

At the end of every Bond film (& this one) it says "James Bond will Return" & as rumour has it there is heavy speculation that the new 007 has been chosen..That man is 33yo Englishman, Aaron Taylor-Johnson!! The announcement is due to be made imminently once Aaron signs, if reports are to be believed... 🤯 I think we can be in no doubt it will be another timeline of 007 unrelated to the Daniel Craig era.

The first Bond you see will always be your Bond, but in this case I'd say watch the first films at least of all the other Bonds, ( though with Connery I'd start with Goldfinger ) As much as I like Craig -- he could have been the best of them had the writing stayed consistent with Casino Royale -- but other actors had consistently better runs of equal quality ( although Bronsnan really suffered a lot with his subsequent films as well, though imho not as badly as Craig ) I will say that any drop off in the quality of the Bond franchise has never been the fault of the actor portraying Bond, but the screenwriters and production company who own and control the franchise and who often go astray with the directions they chose to take it.

"And your father killed my entire family." A cruel payment, yet necessary. For someone young and helpless gets to see everything he ever adored and appreciate suffered terribly. He had waited all this time just to destroy everything SPECTRE had created from robbing and decaying his memories with his family. Before his time, like any members of SPECTRE, his father is a cruel power-hungering man while his mother tried to teach him how it is to be someone far better than he. Except the decisions for himself to follow his mother or father had been taken away, learnt that Blofeld started this horror, leaving him scarred, helpless, easily manipulated with the promising yet terrifying power he would use to change things. He is one person with a mind that follows his ambitious father and conscious mother. He loved them both, he loved them without any intent to letting them go after all of this. No matter what his plans are, the weapons he possesses, I still sympathize him. I sympathize him deeply.

Regarding Bond not being over Vesper after just a week with her.... I would first say that "Casino Royale" seems to suggest it was a bit longer than that, since he's recovering from his injuries for some time at the lake with her. And, at the risk of being "too-personal," I can say that some people are just wired that way. Especially if you have a traumatic childhood with bonus abandonment issues, which Bond does (and God knows I do). You rarely _genuinely_ let people in, so, when you _actually_ do, even if it's brief, it is an _intense_ experience that stays with you. I had a.... "Thing" with a brilliant, world-hopping Italian socialite on-and-off for about five weeks in 2015, and it still occupies a huge part of my mind. So much happened in those weeks. It's not that I'm not "over" her, I very much am, it's that it's still such an _event_ in my life so far. And that's while I'm still friends with her to this day: if what had happened to Vesper had happened to her? Cripes, I would have had nightmares every night for the rest of my life!
