It’s understandably polarising but I just love the film. The music, the romance, both the opening and closing are incredibly heartbreaking. Saw it five times in the cinema. And I think with time, it will be appreciated more and more.

If you watch the end of the pre-title sequence carefully- when Bond puts Madeleine on the train, just before the doors close- she grabs her stomach ......When they first get in the car, she says to Bond "I have something to tell you" and Bond replies "I bet you have!"....obviously she wanted to tell him she was pregnant

I saw this first showing, opening day and it was the first time I’d been to the pictures in 18 months. I could barely keep the grin off my face through the opening credits. Naturally by the end I was in floods of tears, when I went to see it again with my partner I think I cried even more than the first time. He did scoff with incredulity with the bit with the magnets (but he does have a PhD in Magnetic Materials).

I loved this Bond film. It draws heavily on tropes from a number of Ian Fleming’s books, nods generously to On Her Majesty’s Secret Service and You Only Live Twice in particular, and adds in an almost supernatural dimension. Villain named Lucifer after all - and fitting the classic tropes of the devil…empty figure, an influencer rather than active (following Aquinas’ definition of evil as absence rather than positive presence), seeking chaos and destruction, who corrupts and manipulates, but cannot harm those who renounce him (eg. Mathilde, whom he then has to let go). Some fans hated this film, but I think it took the character to a different daring place.
@johnpaulson4750
@johnpaulson4750 Год назад
My issue with the film is that the henchmen were extremely weak (Logan Ash for e.g.), and I think it was somewhat hamstrung by tying up the loose ends of its predecessor, SPECTRE. The villain was underdeveloped too, and for a ~ 3 hour film, pacing felt off at times. I felt the pacing issues crept in after the Cuba sequence. I also had no issue with them killing off Bond. Those who might not be acquainted with the books won't necessarily recall that Bond almost meets death twice, at the end of both From Russia with Love and The Man with the Golden Gun. Perhaps because the stories were serialised in newspapers and so cliffhangers were part of the trade.

Me too (I saw it in cinema for 5 times actually, but that's another story). I usually leave cinema after 007 film with the glorious upbeat Bondesque film (except for QoS maybe, it was bit bland), this film was another story. Now I had some of those upbeat Bond feels, but mostly I was overwhelmed with other sort of emotions... I had to put Hanz Zimmer's soundtrack of NTTD to process it.

I love how they actually had the balls to kill James Bond in a movie. It's such a bittersweet ending. Bond lived his life as a soldier, and he died like a soldier, keeping the world safe from harm. He was never destined to live his life as anything but a protector. Family life was something he wanted, but could never have. In the end, the only way he could protect those he loved was by sacrificing himself. Beautiful.

It’s a historic film in the sense that Bond is killed. The Daniel Craig era is a different time-line and has nothing to do with the rest of the films. Basically the next film will/might continue on the same road where Die Another Day left off with a new one off story for each film.

I enjoyed no time to die. It wasn't the perfect James Bond movie but it was a pretty damn good James Bond movie. The ending was emotional and killing Bond was a very bold decision and a fitting end of the the Daniel Craig James Bond era. A few things here. No time to die was nominated for three Academy Awards for best original song, visual effects and sound with Billie eilish winning the Academy Award for best original song. Hans Zimmer was actually a last-minute replacement to do the music for no time to die and he did a great job. He even Incorporated multiple musical cues from On Her Majesty's Secret Service. An that music when Bond was killed is one of the most beautiful and tragic musical cues I have ever heard from a James Bond movie and in general. The Gun Barrel sequence was the first James Bond movie to not have blood dripping down and was done in a creative way with Bond disappearing and the Gunbarrel transitioning into the opening shot with the snow and I like the nod to the gun barrel sequence during the final act. Too bad it was not shown on this reaction. This was the first James Bond movie to have two different Aston Martin cars. The classic Aston Martin DB5 and the Aston Martin from The Living Daylights. There are plenty of references and Easter eggs from previous Bond movies including portraits of previous M's played by Robert Brown and Dame Judi Dench. The poison garden is a reference from the You Only Live Twice novel. No time to die is a pretty good movie and yes it does say James Bond will return at the end credits.

Great reaction. Even if it doesn't rank among the best finales of film franchises, I think it's a good movie. 🙂 I watched it 6 times in the theaters. It's like a "What if...? / Elseworld" story about James Bond being past his prime and living a last fantasy of true romance. I cried with the ending and that's something I gonna remember fondly as a James Bond fan. I was introduced to the 007 franchise thanks to Daniel Craig and I gonna miss him a lot as the character.

There's obviously a handful of other "connected" movies and documentaries other than the two you have targeted. One of which I'd recommend: Becoming Bond (2017) which is a highly entertaining docu-drama about George Lazenby's crazy story about blagging the role despite never having acted before, then throwing it away cos his ego got too big. There's another one called Spymaker: The Secret Life of Ian Fleming where the title character is played by Jason Connery (Sean's son!), although that's more a low key BBC piece.

I did suspect that they were going to kill him off. The line "We have all the time in the world", and the musical score as he said it, was the first of many callbacks to "On Her Majesty's Secret Service," which made me prepare for a tragic end. And they had made such a point about this definitely being Daniel Craig's last movie. The fact that Casino Royale was a complete reboot, and they had far more continuity between movies than they used to, made the Daniel Craig films stand as a complete self contained story, from his first mission to the end, and it seemed like with a guy like James Bond, living to old age in retirement just isn't the way to end it.

The James Bond codename theory is complete bs, both in the Craig timeline and in the classic timeline up to Brosnan. It's one of those things that massively annoys Bond nerds, such as myself. Because to newcomers to the series and casual fans it sounds so believable, but when you go into the details it doesn't hold up to scrutiny at all. Btw, this movie massively divided the fandom. A lot of older Bond fans in particular really hated how they killed him off.

Well remember Daniel Craig's Bond is the only career length version. Casino Royale was a literal reboot starting with his first kill. So in a way, Pierce Brosnan still holds the role of the original 20 film Bond correct? And since James Bond Will Return, not 007, they could simply continue in that timeline so to speak. With whatever actor they feel like.

@@mirekg5704 Which part is confusing to you? The first scene in Casino Royale is Bond's first kill, his 007 status promotion. It's a reboot, yea? Codename theory is fun to think of, but it's not true at all. It's the same Fleming's 007, it's the same person James Bond in all films. Codename theory was debunked by so many things, like Roger Moore's Bond visiting grave of Tracey Bond (George Lazenby's Bond late wife) as one of the most prominent. It's the same person just forever entrapped in 35-40 years old self despite whatever time change. Or Skyfall grave scene, his parents' name is straight from the books. You can argue that Craig's Bond have different continuity (despite all of the nods to previous films, including nods to all 24 previous ones in No Time to Die alone, lots of them, surprised you never mentioned that) and that with the next actor they'll have to invent something we're yet to expect, but... so far cinematic Bond is the same person too. James Bond will return.

The significance of this film saves it in parts from being Craig’s worst Bond. The film was shot great, along with locations but the characters were so weak. The villain was one of the weakest and that’s the villain that ends Craig? Just didn’t make sense. Logan Ash was another irrelevant character, and he’s the one that kills a legendary character in Felix Leiter. Then they just kill off Logan Ash like he was irrelevant, like he didn’t just kill Felix. It was completely rushed in parts. This was Craig’s final Bond, the characters should have been the strongest but they weren’t. They don’t come close to Casino Royale, Skyfall, Spectre and even characters like General Medrano in Quantum.

A point that often gets missed: it's not just that Bond cant touch Madeline and Mathilde. He can't touch ANYONE. Recall how the weapon harmlessly hopped from Madeline, through Bond, to kill Blofeld. This means that as soon as Bond made contact with any person - regardless of who it might be - the nanobots would then start invisibly moving from person to person until they eventually killed their targets. Perhaps Bond could hope against hope that he might be safely isolated until a solution was found, but given his need for immediate medical attention, that would be extremely risky. By trying to save himself, he would almost certainly end up killing those he loved. I whole-heartedly applaud the filmmakers for finally taking chances and stepping outside the established formula for the Daniel Craig films... and for the first time, we got an actor who absolutely nailed the original character created by Ian Fleming. I thoroughly enjoyed this journey, as dark as it sometimes got. Now, I think the time is right for a somewhat lighter tone. In the wake of the pandemic I think audiences want more light escapism from movies, and the Bond producers have another blank slate with which to make a new series appropriate for the coming decade. I have no idea who can fill Daniel Craig's shoes, or which direction they will take us, but I'm hopeful that it will be somewhere fun.
