Believe or not, Mikkel travelling back in time and becoming Jonas' dad is the least crazy thing that happens on the show

and one of the few things that you can probably understand in a way xD

Season one is confusing. Season two you're scratching your head trying to keep up. Then there's season three... Well good luck 😂

You’ve just scratched the surface. This show gets bonkers - all in a good way. In the future he saw himself as a child… And it’s sad knowing that when he grows up he hangs himself.

Hannah is so unhinged. It’s also insane that she got with Ulrich and his son.

The split screens in the episode intros are.... Hints. Foreshadowing. You'll understand by the end of season two. 😉 And sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but... Things definitely become more confusing later on. Like... Really confusing. My condolences.. 😋

So the show drops Michael's name only like 3 times before this episode's reveal. In 1x02 Alexander uses it during the small talk in the scene where Hannah gives him a massage and later Hannah calls Ines and asks if Ines thinks "this" was what Michael would have wanted. So it is very annoying that the English VA for Ulrich pronounces Mikkel like Michael. But the show gives a lot of hints att his reveal. In 1x03 when middle aged Ines is introduced they make a lot of effort to highlight that she does not have a family, less a son who would be in his 40s 33 years later. And then there is the scene in which Hannah and Jonas sit on the kitchen counter and Jonas asks her if she thinks "he" had a secret. They think they are talking about two different people but they don't.

Also here is the red thread again. It is noteworthy that nowadays Ariadne's thread is most often depicted as golden in english speaking countries while it is red in German speaking countries. That is due to it being merged with the idiom of the golden thread (red thread in German). As I pointed out in the last vid, that idiom got popular due to a novel discussed in the classroom scene of that episode.

Well... Martha is Ulrich's daughter and Ulrich is Tronte's son... so yeah... infidelity does seem to run in that family, doesn't it?

18:02 a paradox merely means a seemingly logical contradiction; despite what Gale & Zemeckis wrote into BTTF2 they do not threaten the existence of the space time continuum or anything; especially the two types of paradoxes usually discussed with time travel would be immediately resolved if we would figure out how to travel back in time; until then we usually talk about thought experiments that lead to paradoxes and often refer to these also as paradoxes so if you want some general ideas to think about while watching this here are some; otherwise just ignore them there are basically two assumptions people have about time that contradict time travel; the first is the assumption of causality; this one is hard to rule out as it is the thing that allows us to make assumptions about past events that none of us could have observed and also allows us to predict the outcome of our actions; the famous corresponding causal paradox is the grandfather paradox; the other assumption is that the future is distinc from the past as the past is already determined while the future is not; this gives us free will and agency as we can freely make decisions in what we call the present that shape the future; the corresponding famous ontological paradox is the bootstrap paradox but both of these only get complicated once you make the third assumption: that time travel was possible; you cn always assume two of these at a time: causality and free will demand that time travel is impossible; time travel and causality demand that there is no free will; time travel and free will throw cuasality out the window... oddly enouh although the example paradoxes are somewhat tied to the assumptions it can vary a lot between people what the conclusion of these thought experiments are; they are meant to lead to opposing conclusions but some people can be really stoic and rule out always the same assumption especially if they simply choose to assume that time travel was the one to rule out and that is what you already assume here; you assume that you know how Mikkel dies, because November 2019 is the present and June 2019 is already in the past; that is a causal assumption that the events of 2019 are not changed by the events of 1986 and assuming that Mikkel can not decide against killing himself but you already mentioned a possible solution to one of these conundrums: different timelines; alternate timelines are the application of Everett's many worlds (a theory from the field of quantum mechanics); applied to time travel it basically assumes that a time traveler would always travel to a different parallel world and alter the past of that world instead of his own past; therefore he can willy nilly kill "his own" grandfather because he actually just kills the alternate doppelganger of his grandfather; in the original world of the time traveler the causal chain of events stays intact; which here would mean if Mikkel was in an alernate timeline, his actions would not affect the 2019 events anymore; instead we see the repercussions of a differen Mikkel who went back from a different 2019 to the 2986 that belongs to this 2019; so the Mikkel we are currently following would then not necessarily kill himself... but his cahnces of returning to his original timeline are also virtually zero but maybe you just wanted to express that he was in a different "era" than before and one of the creators, bo, has the perfect term for that (but yeah that is basically a BTS thing); so will get back to this another time
