BIG’s second verse is elite, straight FIREEEEE 🔥🔥🔥🔥

Tupac is the most influential, but BIG was definitely the best rapper from the era. The flow, verbiage, and mic presence was unmatched

@@TheBeatKeeper I hear you, but everyone that you listed (with the exception of Jay Z) peaked in 95. None of them had anything that could compete with Biggie
@TheBeatKeeper
@TheBeatKeeper Год назад
@@uncommonsense23 Based on what evidence do you believe that these dudes couldn't compete with Biggie? Those 3 albums I mentioned in my last comment were LITERALLY IN DIRECT COMPETITION with Biggie: *- 03/13/1994 "Ready To Die"* - 03/28/1995 "Return to the 36 Chambers" - 08/01/1995 "Only Built 4 Cuban Linx" - 11/07/1995 "Liquid Swords" - 06/02/1996 "It Was Written" *- 03/25/1997 "Life After Death"* - 06/03/1997 "Wu-Tang Forever" "Life After Death" was dope, but it was still the weakest album that list I just wrote. The only reason it did as well as it did was because of two reasons: 1. The controversy between him and 2Pac and 2. "Life After Death" was released posthumously 2 weeks after he was murdered in an LA driveby. I want to make it clear that I'm not saying Biggie was ever considered whack or that he wasn't one of the dopest motherfuckas around... BUT... he wasn't above any of his contemporaries. We did not view Biggie when he was alive in the same way we do now. People supported Biggie when he was getting dissed by 2Pac. For the most part, Wu-Tang had nothing to do with the b ef and neither Nas or Jay-Z were really at the center of the beef. Biggie was... therefore, he got talked about more. But _before_ the East Coast/West Coast controversy, it was BY FAR Wu-Tang Clan what everyone on the East Coast was listening to. That's a fact. I was there. I lived it.The fact that magazines started to focus more on bullshit and beef than rhymes and beats doesn't make BIG the greatest. That's re-writing history.
@uncommonsense23

@@TheBeatKeeper Biggie and Nas were the best NYC rappers when he died. Wu Tang was necessary in 93 because the west was running rap at that point. They helped to put NY back at the forefront of the culture, however, IMO they were on the decline after 95. With the exception of Supreme Clientele, no Wu member released a follow up album worth the $17.99 that they used to charge back then. And I bought enough of them to know this. Biggie’s death did help his album sales, but even if he didn’t die, I would rank his double album over Wu Tang Forever. It had better production, singles, and lyrical content (ask a Wu member what his bars meant during that era, and he probably couldn’t tell you what he was rapping about). Nas is one of my favorite rappers so I won’t argue with you when it comes to It was Written. That album doesn’t get the love that it deserves

@@uncommonsense23 Homie... I know that who we think are better is just a matter of opinion, so I won't bother disputing that. But... what _isn't_ a matter of opinion is who was more popular during that time period. I was 14 years old in 1994 and both Method Man and the Notorious BIG had albums on the shelf. "Big Poppa", "Juicy", "One More Chance" were all dope songs - no argument there. But NONE of those songs were fucking with "Bring the Pain" or "All I Need". Everybody single Hip Hop head I knew used their last $17.99 to buy _"Tical"_ over _"Ready To Die."_ That's just a fact and if you disagree, either you weren't on the pulse, or you got a bad memory. Also, your claim that Wu-Tang declined after 1995 is *objectively false.* Ghostface dropped "Ironman" in 1996 and the Clan dropped "Wu-Tang Forever" in 1997. Whatever you personally think of these two albums, it still stands that both albums were highly successful. Therefore, your claim is false. IMO, they declined after 97, not 95. But EVEN IF you were correct, how does that make Biggie better? Biggie only had "Ready To Die" in 1994 and then "Life After Death" in 1997. And to be honest, "Life After Death" was softer than "Ready To Die." It was full of that fake-mafioso/Big Willie, Crystal and Versace-loving bullshit that eventually sparked the materialism and classism that is what Hip Hop culture has turned into today. If you look at it _that_ way, Biggie declined after his very first album. But that's only my opinion. So rather than opinion, let's look at it statistically": a. In 3 years (1994 to 1997), Bad Boy produced a total of four note-worthy albums, of which only two were from Biggie: 1. [DOPE] 1994 "Ready To Die" 2. [WACK] 1995 "Conspiracy" 3. [GOOD] 1996 "Harcore" 4. [DOPE] 1997 "Life After Death" b. Whereas in 4 years (1993-1997) Wu-Tang Clan produced *SEVEN* albums: 1. [DOPE] 1993 "Enter the 36 Chambers" 2. [DOPE] 1994 "Tical" 3. [DOPE] 1995 "Return to the 36 Chambers" 4. [DOPE] 1995 "Only Built 4 Cuban Linx" 5. [DOPE] 1995 "Liquid Swords" 6. [DOPE] 1996 "Ironman " 7. [DOPE] 1997 "Wu-Tang Forever" Bruh, there's no comparison. Not to mention Gravediggaz "6 Feet Deep" & Shyheim's "Rugged Child" & "the Lost Generation". Then you got Killarmy, Killah Priest, CappaDonna, and other affiliates. People say Biggie is the greatest NOW... but no one said it BACK THEN, not in real time. You cats only say he's the Great Of All Time because his name was in the media more because of the controversy he had with 2Pac. But believe me... had it been Wu-Tang in the forefront of the East Coast West Coast shit against someone like 2Pac or Ice Cube or Dr. Dre or whoever... and if it was the Wu who got killed in a driveby or a plane crash or some shit, what you say about Biggie, you would be saying about them. You've been brainwashed!

Shaq said in a couple of interviews about the song that Big went into the booth without hearing the beat, laid down the hardest verse that Shaq had ever from Big. But he redid his verse to make it to make it "kid friendly"... Shaq said that he still has the original verse but will never play it.
