Not even attacking football. But just football. Like, a balanced attack and defensive game is beyond him. It has to be at least 60% favouring negative tactics.
Fans if Southgate sticks: Oh how could he do the same thing and expect a different result? Terrible!! Fans if Southgate twists: You’re going to change the formation in the quarterfinal? How stupid!!
@@jonahlossiah4513 the formation isn't the issue - it's the tactics. If we're already playing super defensively (we are), what does a 5-3-2 add to our game? A change in formation is fine as long as it *actually changes something* A 3-5-2 would be much more welcomed than a 5-3-2 which is only slightly different.
Cowards a bit strong, he stepped to take a pen at euro 96. Hardly the action of a coward, BUT he is definitely too defensive minded for this England team. Can't wait for a new manager who knows what he's got.
@ianmatthews7385 yh perhaps coward is harsh, i am frustrated just like everybody else i suppose.. I just see in southgate, He always tries not to lose, instead of actively pushing to win,
You're way off with the "lose an attacker" comment Mark. A back 5 would make us more attacking (considering trent and saka might be the wing backs). It would actually give us some width! both foden and trippier want to cut inside and don't look natural out there near the left touchline at all, then on the other side... Walker has been shocking going forward
@@disclaimer.imjokinEngland are playing badly with a bad manager but collectively a decent squad. Ireland, now they are terrible, can't qualify after UEFA opened the number of teams up for the tournament to help the smaller nations qualify like Slovakia, Slovenia, Georgia and dare I say Ireland. Scotland even made it😆
Surprisingly this group of England players are turning into one of the most unlikeable squad we've had purely from their arrogance of thinking they are immune to criticism and analysis
objectively this manager is the best in the last 60 years, why would players listen to fans who don't know how to manage vs the highest performing coach in 60 years.
To be fair, I think its more a core group vs the whole squad. Gordon came out the other day and acknowledged the criticism, saying it should focus and inspire them to do better, that there is room for improvement. I think those on the bench have the energy and intensity we want to see. But they are not as easily controlled by Southgate, unpredictable and not yet his favs.
It looked more like he just chucked Toney on to get his first major tournament cap & had conceded that we were going to lose the game. I doubt he was expecting him to make any impact.
@@Sam-_- 9-0-1 lineup, not even Tony Pulis or Sam allardyce would dare to even try.. They can only dream of this lineup.. Gotta show the world how British football is played 😀😀 hoofty hoofs..
You are right, it is not crazy. A back 5 could mean two wingbacks that will provide width on the attack. Foden and Saka have been too easily isolated and would benefit from someone supporting them with overlapping and underlapping runs.
I stand by it was Graham Jones that got us to that final. Each game he was shouting tactics while SG was sat down until the final when SG took over. Dont believe me watch it back. The guy also was 2nd in command at Belgium years ago when they got the number 1 spot.
That’s wild… “when the football doesn’t work like it used to before… and the shirt doesn’t mean a thing… Gareth, I, hate, everything, you, do as managerrrr”
Mad respect for the shoutout for Cold Palmer after what he did to united last season. Hopefully he can start and help get the team through to the semi-finals!
I want 'positive football' to win in all instances. I am English but if you were to say to me would I rather England win the Euros playing the way we are OR Spain to win it playing the way THEY are..........then I would choose Spain all day every day! Defending is a part of the game, but not the be all and end all (which is the tactic Southgate deploys). Besides, it is always said that attack is the best form of defense and I agree.
He's going for a back five because he thinks we will get an early goal, that way he can sit back for the rest of the game and not have to worry about making any defensive substitutions.
5 at the back ... We've been sitting on the edge of our box with most men behind the ball with 4 at the back. I can't imagine how grim it will be with 5 at the back. It will end up looking like one of those training games where it literally is attack versus defence. It will look like a Slovenia game but without the organisational structure and high energy that Slovenia had.
Asymmetrical 5-1-2-2 or 5-1-3-1 with TAA on the right and Gordon (or Saka) on the left could be interesting but without enough practice probably wouldn't work.
It all depends on the wingbacks. Of he plays Trent Rwb and Saka lwbI can guarantee we will be better than we have been so far. We will actually have width , we canr be much worse. Drop foden and play that honestly Id be fine with it. IF we see trippier lwb and walker rwb we are finished ...
Even as a Casual that's exactly what it looks like to me after those player and manager interviews🤣 They just assume yall should kiss some player bums and be happy with it🤨
As an irish person its because English fans are insufferable. Its always 'coming home' before the tournament, and players are placed on a ridiculous pedalstal. Then when they inevitably don't measure up to the ridiculous expectations you all turn on your own team immediately and feel totally justified doing it(because 'we're England and should win', totally disrespecting the quality of other teams). This then scars them for tournaments to come. Rinse and repeat. Worst fans in the world.
Criticism of the team, although largely aimed at the manager and how he sets up, is sometimes taken personally by players (most of them aren't that bright). They also have swarms of sycophants around them telling them how amazing they are everyday and aren't used to hearing the analysis of impartial people.
A back 5 could work if the wing backs are Trent and Saka with Stones Walker and Konsa the 3 CBs Bellingham and rice ahead of them foden cam and Kane and Toney at ST
@@ColdiBgstop falling for that shitty stereotype, you do know playing attacking football isn’t easy as just telling the team to attack you have to create a structure for a balance.
It could work. Trent and Saka as WB's, Stones as central CB/midfielder, Dunk and Konsa either side (questionable), Rice and Bellingham in the middle, and a front three of Foden, Kane and Palmer.
What’s the point in having a 26 man squad, when Southgate only uses about fifteen players..? We all know Southgate won’t change from his defensive tactics, so we’ll all look forward to a sub-par performance once again?!!
Only Southgate could be thinking: Ok we have been SH** a d I am loosing a defender in the next game. HHMMMM lets try a different system with players that have not played together!!😂😂😂😂
3-4-2-1 (Christmas tree formation). That’s the team that wins the Euros, Gareth. Pickford Walker Stones Gomez Trent Rice Mainoo Saka Bellingham Foden Kane
@@psychixclan2770watch Wharton highlights for last year in prem already experienced with Blackburn real good talent better than rice at CDM an left footed an always plays direct
I honestly think Southgate is scared to play the younger players, that's why he's playing the bigger stars over the players that tactically will perform better, I think he's scarred if they make a mistake playing energetic football that they will be under so much media fire.. personally I don't think he will change anything, his philosophy is "who can handle the media the best" not "who can play in that position the best"
It COULD be fantastic with a back 5. Needs another manager though. With Saka and Trent on the wings and Rice, Bellingham, Foden in the middle, and Kane playing on the last man instead of dropping down, together with Toney. But it will be more parking the bus than going forward, so it will suck... /Swede
Pickford Trent Walker Stones Gomez Saka Bellingham Rice Palmer Kane Foden Foden and Palmer like to come inside and play more like 10s giving space out wide for Saka and Trent to overlap. Gomez gives the option of switching to a back 3 or 4, lots of pace and comfortable on ball compared to Dunk and Konsa
Mfker saw Turkey v Austria and thought moving his squad further back is a better option. England would be absolutely devastated if they came up against either of those teams
wing back with saka and trent would work well. the reason we got the disallowed goal as a chance was because of how we stretched the defence. it will probably work well
@@mattyboyxv974 As a fellow Liverpool fan, Trent has been plodding ever since he bulked up a bit. I am interested to see if Slot can put a rocket up him going forward, or switch his training ratio to more cardio and fewer weights. Or check his sleep ratio, as Trent's tired eyes look like my son's when he's been up gaming to 5am.
I think it makes sense, play Trent on the right and Saka on the left gives us balance what we haven't had all tourament as long as its a 3-4-3 and not a typical southgate back 5.
Right, let's face it, goldbridge. I'm 36 in 2 months we want england to win in our generation because we're gonna die soon love to see it before we go... ❤
Southgate hasn’t got an attacking bone in his body. He has to be the worst England Manager since Graham Taylor. I would the whole of the England camp to stand up and say: We are more than this, put us in positions where we know how to play and let us play as we can. We play for top teams - except for Man Utd - and are successful players. I really hope Southgate is replaced as England manager after this tournament 😂😂😂😂
We don't have an attack, they all want to come towards our own goal to receive the ball, and move towards our own goal, the midfield to find space move backwards, the defence do the same and we all end up in our own penalty box, if we didn't lose the ball earlier we'd end up a all on the goal line trying to pass sideways. We need someone who runs beyond the defence, simples.
Netherlands look strongest on this side of the draw by a long-way. So should reach the final. Then it's probably Germany/Spain or France so one game against a solid team then anyone can win it eg Dutch have a good chance. Good call. Unless England transform in the QFs into a complete team... (lol).
Are you joking ? Putting rice as cb? When he never played this position. And again putting trent into the mid are, where he can't defend. I don't even mention the lack of cohesion between foden/belingham/kane.
Shoot me, but i think its smart. Trent- walker- Stones- konsa - saka is perfect for the attack to. you need 3 at the back if you are playing trent and saka, two most creative options. Then also palmer on the wing.
