This is one of the few kits that when the guy does each tom individually, even the final hardest hit doesn't choke out and kill the tone. Very impressive.
I am blessed enough to be an N&C Owner (of the CD Maples) and nearby to the N&C Factory. Recently went there and played one of these kits, and the KICK was the standout to me as well - sounded pretty much Exactly as you hear here - one of the most "character" filled kicks I've ever heard - so good!
Every drum kit they test on this site sounds great with all the processing they do to it. I wish more reviewers would use room mics so we can hear what they really sound like.
Noble & Cooley's "Vintage" description is not in reference to 1950's Ludwig or Gretsch drums. Rather go back decades prior to find American drum manufacturers often making horizontal grain walnut and maple drums. That is the "vintage" sound that N&C is referring to.
I love that bass drum sound A little sustain Not all compressed like rock/metal and pop music I feel like everyone is on the ported front head train Idk that whole kit sounds absolutely amazing
Oh, I love walnut drums. Hard to get that fat warmth with other woods - only Bubinga can hold up maybe. Great for big pop and rock ballads. Using clear batter heads and tune them up a bit more and you‘ll get best of both worlds- big drums tuned high, the Bonham effect. 😎😍 What a stunning sounding kit.
Gorgeous, just gorgeous. I agree with the "vintage" sentiment; they sound too nice for that label. I'd love to hear that snare tuned LOW, like gooshy low. Cheers.
The sound is incredible, as well as the look. Now I'd want to hear this kit in a more rock / metal context, with clear double ply on the toms and a beefier head and some muffle on the bass drum. I'm sure it would sound insane.
What are these mics you use on the toms? ... looks like beyerdynamic in a way but which model? ... You could do a video about your miking and recording set up... Cheers... Love the channel great reviews with honest and accurated views!
Those are Josephson e22S condenser mics. Glorious-sounding mics that have seen a couple of Periphery records. They're also VERY expensive ($1,430 USD per)
A couple of questions have u demoed the kit with die cast hoops,if so how did they sound and my second question is all walnut demos (N&C) are with coated heads do you ever or have u played them with clear heads like Evans EC2's or Remo Emperors?? Thanks
That walnut is stunning! Kick, rack toms and snare are the bees knees! Not so much on the floor toms though. Like he said, maybe a head change would do the trick.
Love N&C, and love these drums. Mind you, even if the drums are designed to last a lifetime, personally I'd avoid the black chrome, which is likely to chip and wear too quickly.
No doubt these are great drums that sound fantastic. If budget is not an issue then these would be a front runner for sure. That said, I feel they are way overpriced as you can get equally great sounding drums for a lot less money. If it’s prestige you, seek than these are the ones.
such a great drum set. But I can't understand why they still build these sizes. There are so many examples that a 14x14 and a 16x16 doesn't work so good in tonal development as a shorter depth. Also the same depths of the two rack toms might look any aesthetic, but physically the shouldn't have the same depth........
I completely agree with this sentiment, I’m absolutely baffled that manufacturers haven’t started regularly producing 14x10 and 16x12 floor toms. The tone would substantially increase and so would the punch. I guess we’ll just have to wait 40 more years :/
you are not alone. the toms look aloof to me on this kit. I also believe shallow depth makes for a drum with more tuning options. IMHO a drum should be at least 2" smaller than its circumference. I have a 14" x 12" floor tom that can be felt in the chest.
N&C Builds to order - so.... this is as they were ordered. Any kit is fully custom from the word go - you want 14 X 12, you got 14 X 12 - nothing is stock at N&C - all custom
£5,000? A bit wanky, eh? To be honest, it sounds like my kit that I pieced together from random used drums (many times cheaper than this kit). I'd be a buyer in the £500 range, NOT BLOODY £5,000.
