This is an interesting process and a great deal of people get their bills paid and get energy from this endeavor. The problems with fracking is the dependence on fossil fuels which contributes to climate change, the fracking fluid contains mostly water but also includes sand, some antibacterial agents, acids, and lubricants. Not all of that fluid gets pumped out and if it is, it’s not guaranteed that it will be treated properly. For the fluid that’s in the ground, it is entirely possible to have cracks in the pipeline and it leaking into the groundwater. The damage the communities, ecosystem ,and to the climate is what you have to balance when you produce and consume fossil fuels. As a society we need to make a sustainable future but fossil fuels are a great energy source if it wasn’t for the pollution.

When they frac they pump an average of 170,000 bbls of water per well total. Then they recover most and dispose of it back in the ground at diposal wells and its gone for ever,

What is the cost of this whole process ?

San Francisco depends on many factors. Field drilling in, depth of well, existing infrastructure, etc... In the Delaware Basin total well cost runs around 14 million.

Clean energy is cheaper now and into the future when we truly value our health and that of all species. Please switch to clean energy and stop fracking, thanks!
