In this video we talk about getting started in the oil field. I’m going to cover three main departments of where you need to look for a job, some of the expectancies, and qualifications to get going. The video is a little shaky due to some rough Illinois roads but I told you it was going to be raw footage so that’s what you get. Hope you enjoy this segment and please send me a message on what you would like for me to cover in future videos.

3rd party usually does not pay as well as a frack company. Sometimes they are less organized. If you are willing to put in 100 hours a week. Constantly working while on pad the 12 or 14 hours a day for two weeks. You will make great money. You will meet people that will become life long friends. You will become part of the crew family. You have their backs, they'll have yours. In 14 years, I've worked for 2, 3rd parties, and 4 frack companies, one was for a little over 5 years. Loved almost every minute of it.

So would starting as a pipeline fitter in the union as a 3rd party help me gain sufficient experience to go in the oil drills or fracking work?

My brother is in pipeline right now, 5 days out of the week and weekends off. he does have overtime and work from home over the weekend with projects. I’m planning on joining him because I get out of the Army here in about 5-6 months, obviously with no experience but i’ll still be 22 years old willing to learn and bust my a$$

This is for all you lookers for the Key to the V door types. As a general rule, the closer you work next to the well head, the more longevity your job will have. Rigs get laid off first, service companies next and those that work with established wells. Well, they'll still be working.

What do you think of the workers who maintain the Pumpjacks? Is that kind of work well paid? Greetings.

I'm about to obtain my CDL A. Do you suggest a gig as an equipment operator? Seems like a solid way to spend the first six months to a year in my career change.

Hey there. I contacted you a few weeks ago to thank you for such an informative video--I am a writer and need info for my next novel. I have one additional question if you don't mind my asking... you mentioned that schedules are several weeks off/on. Do the workers all live nearby the site? My character works there and has a family. I was just wondering if he goes home every night or only on his weeks off. Thanks in advance!

Most oilfield workers live hundreds of miles away. For example, my family and I live in Kentucky and I drive 1,300 miles each way to North Dakota. I work a 2 week on/ 2 week off rotation. While on hitch, we stay in either a hotel or a man camp with the rest of the crew. A man camp is essentially a hotel that also provides meals. Depending on which man camp they put you in. They quality of the rooms and food can be rather low. Hope this helps!

I don't have any family so this works good for me I'm in shape I can pass a drug test and willing to work hard, and I have my high school diploma as well if that means anything, I just don't know where to go or what companies to talk to I'd really appreciate any help.

Service rigs from 1968 to 1980's, some days were 20 hrs. If you were drilling and your relief was a no-show you planned on a 36 hr shift. It is eas to workk these days....automation, labor board intervention, and you take breaks all day long talking about what your going to do and not getting it done. Easy, peasey. I say stain schoolol and the warm basement at your parent's house. That way you never learn real team and family.

I’m sorry but 126 hours a week sounds exaggerated that’s 18 hours a day

It may sound crazy but that’s how you make money in the oilfield. Not exaggerating at all.
