Used to love this in the 80s. My Dad would pick me up from school on Thursdays in the winter and we’d always grab some Long John Silvers. Good memories.
The first time in 15 years, I decided to go to a Long John Silvers and got fried fish, shrimp and hush puppies. I have to say, one of the best meals I’ve ever had. It’s sad to say that the franchise is hanging on the tip of a cliff.
I used to go to an A&W/Long John Silver's in Daytona Beach back in the 2010s. The building looked like an absolute dump, but the food itself, from both A&W and LJS, was actually pretty good. It's permanently closed now, but at least I got to enjoy it while it lasted.
@@RetracEllgacLMAO Well, yes, I gotta admit -- that you are SPEAKING TRUTH there, @Retrac. Real truth. But still, LJS is a place that I love, but I can't stomach the prices.
I think they are what they are. I know that should be obvious, but people go there and critique it like it isn't fast food fried fish. Does seem a bit salty sometimes but otherwise I've got no complaints.
Used to love Long John Silvers as a kid, but most of the places have closed up. There’s still one left in town, but it’s bad quality. Tastes like they haven’t changed the oil in forever. I miss the Long John Silvers of my childhood. 😢
Lmao. They are doing you guys dirt. Can't have em like you used too huh. Mcdonald's are some hoes too. Haven't been there in months. Fries are so soggy and disgusting@@BulletSponge178
Folks in general don’t eat deep-fried seafood as often because it’s so unhealthy. Pair that with LJS’s reputation for poor quality and it’s been tough. I do appreciate that they’ve expanded their healthier grilled and baked options though.
@kabob21 lack if healthy food isn't the reason they suffer financially 😅 McDonald's has made it just fine with their fat factories after all. The issue was quality, early expansions taking on too much debt, lack of large desire for fried seafood, and no brand identity
Fast food fish in general is disappearing. (Ignoring the filet o fish) It’s sad as a seafood lover when you want something seafoody but don’t have the money to go for expensive seafood
Meanwhile Arbys not playing out here lol new item every week and it be fire🔥🔥🔥 they used to be trashhhh back in the day with them dry ash roast beef sandwiches lol
Filet o fish should disappear too lol. When I worked there we almost never sold them, so we were always throwing out old stale filets. But McDs needs that one fish option so it never will
@@chummygunLuke warm 😅😂 naw but I would get the cod and chips Because they also sold "fish" and chips The "fish" was Pollock smelt and whatever other scraps they had 😅😂 I stick to the local places like Ivar's up here by Seattle. They knock it out the park and are northwest legends
Their chicken and fish and fries are all amazing. Hush puppies even, if you find a good location... But usually not for those. Infact the rest of the menu should probably be avoided. But those basics are, indeed, fire.
@@browniegarcia-zu4ys Sucks (too bad) for you, Long John Silver’s is the worst restaurant to enter the planet, and should have all locations closed by law.
I loved LJS as a child, especially the crispy bits on the bottom of the box they put the fish on top of. Now, it's like playing Russian roulette with your arteries after a certain age, it's too heavy.
I still love Long John Silvers lol...problem is, at least in Houston, they keep closing down lol...I found one that is combined with an A & W, hopefully, that one stays open!
Yeah, I live in Houston, Texas, too. I think you're talking about that one corner of West St and I-45. I like that one. I loved it when they had $10 sea-shares. Not anymore.
@@rhayfedagreat Yeah, that's the one that I go too. Yeah, the streets suck bad over there too. Gotta get a suspension job after getting fish from that LJS.
I went there a few weeks ago to buy the family dinner. In all, I can't complain. The food met expectations. The location I went to that day was a standalone one that's been there since the 70s. I need to go back more often. It's one of those places you forget about at times.
20 years ago long john silver had the best fries i have ever eaten....its hard to describe how insanely good it was,it had none of the artificial taste that most french fries had, the outside was a light fluffy crispy texture and the inner fries was the softest potato ever.....that stuff was ten times more addictive than mcdonalds fries.....it disappeared sometime in the mid to late 2000s.... Till today i have never encountered anything like long john silver fries only in my adolescent dreams. Long john silver fries is like one of those memories, like a myth or legend from ur childhood u could never really be sure if it really happened, like 80s and 90s pop music and sci fi together in electric dreams.
@@FC2ESWS i mean im not exactly a fries connorsieur where i come from asia, fries isnt exactly a cultural staple food, but i dont think its that hard to beat mcdonalds fries.... if i told u there exist in the past certain things that u couldnt possibly describe or imagine, if u werent there to experience it..... like pringles back in the 2000s, or kfc zinger back in the early 2000s or late 90s....or colonel crispy strips.....i have no idea how they made those things or what they put into them, but it was completely unlike any chicken strips or tenders that exists today......the meat of the zinger and the colonel strips when u bit into it was the amazing most perfect crunch and coating.....and red hot chili oil would drip out, the texture of the meat and the contrast of the crunchy coating.....my god...... the reason people are obese today is because food is mediocre and garbage and they eat large quantities of it to make up for the lack in taste flavour texture and quality.....if i had one zinger from that era....my god i would sit there in silence, with phone off and tears will fall from my cheek as i savour every bite for as long as possible..... kfc zinger circa 2000 was the food of the gods..... and then there was the chicken in the biscuit from the 2000s......they brough it back a few years ago but that is just a pale imitation of a wannabe..... and there was something called bugles..... opening a can of pringles from the 2000s if i had one today that exist in perfect condition would be like opening the door to narnia......hopefully when i die i would be perfectly preserved in ice for a thousand years, and aliens would find me and with technology that exists then clone me and all those foods from the past......
@@hwanjung8230 We have 2 in my city, (that's sort of shocking with the amount of EVERYTHING we have in my city). I didn't know but 1 is about 8 miles from me, (that may sound close but depending on time of day that could be anywhere from 45m to 3 hours round trip). That one is close enough that I may of decided on dinner tonight. I hope it's 1/2 as good as I remember. I can't find pricing other than grub hub. Iv got no idea what the mark up at grub hub is?
My dad has done work inside of Long John’s in the past. He swore he would never take his family there after seeing the conditions inside them. Fast forward years later and a friend of mine wanted long John’s and I warned her don’t eat there. She went anyway and got food poisoning.
Long John Silvers is good but yes the chicken, and fish is a bit salty. The food is always fresh every time I go.Still one located here in fort.lauderdale,fl
Long John Silvers's main problem is seafood is expensive and has a short shelf life. So the business model of a fast-food seafood restaurant is in opposition to itself. Meaning, in order for Long John Silvers to be profitable everything must be frozen. Well if you're buying frozen seafood, you'll get far more bang for your buck buying frozen seafood at the grocery store.
Same, I think that’s why I never had a horrendous experience with Long John Silver’s like a lot of people do. It seems like those who got food poisoning from it were from eating the seafood itself. I will say that their hushpuppies are alright, probably the best thing from Ling John Silver’s.
Man I love Long John Silvers. Have eaten it a couple times per year for most of my life. I think people sleep on the chicken. But I have no idea how it stays open because there’s rarely anyone there, and there is really terrible service off and on. If I didn’t love the taste so much and have such a strong nostalgic feel for it, I’d probably stop going myself. We’ll see how long it lasts.
We used to have one here where I lived and in the 1990s it was real good but after the turn of the century it started going downhill. It closed before the pandemic and hasn’t been missed since.
I’m almost 50 years old and I’ve never walked in the front door of the Long John Silver‘s in my life. They’ve been out here in Southern California a while too.
My LJS in Houston, Texas, is always empty. It's because it's just gotten TOO EXPENSIVE. And, it's just TOO EASY to make it at home with the COPYCAT RECIPES online.
how did the tartar sauce make the fish worse??? you gave the fish a 6.9 and then it lost .2 points when you sauced that baby up. ??????????? id give it a 7.1 since tartar
I quietly love ljs, fast food fish gets a bad wrap and i totally understand...the batter is always so crispy and i love the little crunchy bits that fall off
The chicken is among my favorites all time up there with Mcdonalds nuggets, Burger King Original Chicken and Chik Filet. I might put it above them all. Perfect batter. Just PER-FECT! Long Live Long John Silvers.
@@user-vo7vp1xm9q Not a big greasy food fan. Fried fish is good but not when it’s soaked. I like mine dry as can be. Same reason melted cheese is kind of nasty to me. Like of course it tastes good but it feels wrong you know?
@InjusticeJosh yes, it is the greasiest. Everything is fried and drenched in oils. My mom used to take my brother and I in the 80s all the time. Now, I can't stand all those fried foods.
"This place will probably disappear in the next five years, but I'm glad we got to try it before it left." That's literally my exact experience with an A&W/Long John Silver's that was in Daytona Beach. I used to occasionally go there in the late 2010s when i had to travel to events in the area as part of my old job. The building and interior looked like an absolute dump, but the food itself, both the A&W and Long John Silver's stuff, was actually pretty decent. Around five years later, i decided to randomly look them up again and that's when i found out that location had been permanently shut down.
We used to have this in town and it was delicious. It was a Long John Silvers in the same building as an A&W which basically just meant they had root beer floats on the menu in addition to the normal stuff. Too bad they closed down like 5 years ago
