My jigsaw came with clear plastic inserts that snap in to prevent the wood splinters . You could even see through it for a few seconds. It’s a Bosch and very old . Has the black plastic piece to tighten the blade but I preferred the earlier model that required a screwdriver to change blades

My old AEG (i thinks it from the 70s) has the same feature for the splinters. I prefare the mechanism with a screwdriver/Hex key too because it normally holds more tight then one of the newer lock systems.

LOL. there is a lever on the side of the saw which helps prevent splintering that the makers put on. It restricts the vibration of the blade.

Yes that breakout splintering does spoil the job. I will try masking tape on a sample piece of plywood tomorrow.

Stanley bought DeWalt, then merged with Black & Decker, so all are likely made in the same factory, just with different color schemes. They also own the Craftsman brand, Porter Cable, and Irwin.

As a Master carpenter and Joiner O.N.C AND H.N.C now retired, I waited patiently to see what "Nobody Knows" I was not surprised not to see anything we have not known or used before. There are many ways to stop splintering and each pro has his favoured way. Also do realise folks although cutting a straight cut with a jigsaw is of course possible the machine is principally designed and made to cut curves, circles and shapes. Any "straight" cut is liable to wander and deviate, and of course the right blade for the right job is essential.

Put styro-foam underneath and you can cut safely and easily anywhere. Started when I had to to do cursive lettering.😢 Works the same with a circular saw.

You can wallpaper. It also makes a good Frappe mixer. You can cut a birthday cake. It is also good for cutting ice cream. Great for removing stubborn tires. Make a great paint mixer. You can power a generator with it. Any other ideas? Disabling bicycles left in driveway. You can edge a lawn with it. 😅😊

Mostly they are known as anti-splintering inserts. They will vary with the manufacturer of the saw and also quality/price of the saw.

Really, you start out with the zero insert mentality then you drill out a hole to make the upside down contraption when you could have sawn an inch past the hole before screwing it down to have another zero clearance solution.

I wouldn’t even use a jigsaw for a cut like that first one and I would use my bandsaw or table saw instead of trying to hang a jig saw upside down
