Actually, after a Munro video of the under-body and suspension, apparently the design of the suspension is greatly influenced by safety factors in case of a side collision to sort of "fold" the wheel in ways to protect the occupants and absorb the impact.

They should take a look at where the spindle broke to see if there are any voids (it would look foamy, with gas bubbles in the metal). Tesla has had issues in the past with cast aluminum parts where suspension parts broke because of poor casting techniques. I think they ironed all that out, and that probably isn't the issue here, but it would be useful to check.

No wonder it broke like that. If looking how far that track is, it puts huge bending torque on that part of the arm when normal tire practically nothing more than straight up. Same thing happened to that spindel that happened to the bolt. Looks like some sort of hardened alloy the way it sheared, and not the thickest for an already heavy truck. Those tracks really put a lot more leverage on the suspension, compared to the stock tires which are pretty much straight underneath instead of way out to the side of the vehicle. Basic physics in action, like Archimedes was calculating over 2000 years ago, the longer the lever, it either takes less effort in to get the same force out or the same effort to get a much greater force....

I first became aware of that theory when a aerospace engineer who spent his life working at the skunkworks told me that if I have a stress crack occurring in my main Spa just stop drill it and then drill several more holes and it will never break because nothing ever tears along the perforations then he demonstrated with the role of paper towels that I had right next to me and sure enough it did not tear along the perforations! 13.05 mins You probably already know the reason: the chassis is simply overloaded due to its design. The enormous width - as you can clearly see when loading - is simply too much, because the tires are normally much closer to the center of gravity than they are now. In my opinion a crossbar connecting both sides front and back would be a solution. This would absorb the lateral forces much better. Since the snow covers the larger bumps anyway, off-road mobility should not be restricted too much. All the best and thanks for the video. How much such a conversion would cost would be interesting. This construction is also interesting, where the actual supporting structure is fixed with simple steel strips instead of building a steel structure underneath - but you probably can't get one off the shelf anymore today because aluminum looks so nice and strong and doesn't rust... - just a dishonest metal compared to steel

Actually, after a recent Munro video of the Cybertruck under-body and suspension, apparently the design of the suspension is greatly influenced by safety factors in case of a side collision to sort of "fold" the wheel in ways to protect the occupants and absorb the impact. Many videos show the Cybertruck off-roading over rocks and steep slopes quite adequately with regular wheels. But many factors go into a design; collision safety is one of the most important. Snow-tracks put very unusual forces on the standard suspension. Lots of other cars and trucks modified for this application have encountered similar failure modes, as mentioned in the video.

Send the Cybertruck to Whistlindiesel for some testing. It will eventually be used as scrap, to build some new stainless home appliances.

@@Ethan-sj6qf not with these tracks or with massive spacers. Throw a regular set of tracks on without spacers and it would be fine. And weight wise it should be compared to a 3/4 ton.

So much to unpack in this week’s video. First and foremost Dennis. Mountain top crazy man, as said in the introduction video to the go to guy in remote repairs. Diesel Dave- ie Wreck it Ralph. It will hold; should hold, hope it holds. 🤣. Wreck it Ralph leaves. And the Cyber truck makes it back to the trailer. 👍🏻. Not bashing. Laughing with. Always enjoy the Videos.

With the width of those trax it seems like they should allow for flex at the attachment point. They work on the beefed up solid axle, Jeep, though. I imagine at a certain point all the vehicle side attachments can be made to withstand the tq and lift the track up on edge. But letting the track articulate like an ankle joint would probably work better
