My D15 will be in this week. After 4.5 years the liquid in my Corsair H100i leaked out enough that my cpu temp rises to 100C under IBT. AIO water cooling was worth the experience but I am looking forward to returning to a Noctua air cooler . I never liked the idea of liquid inside my PC anyhow. At least the H100i was not a catastrophic failure!
+Noquarter Atall But it doesn't increase cooling performance, or at most 1-2 degrees celcius, so uh, yeah..... And in description he says, it's 5 /5 stars. It's cheaper than the normal d15 :). 15€ Cheaper=More clearance, you can add another fan if you want later but almost useless and will maek it weight more, and it will make more noise. D15=D15S. Same. but D15S is cheaper, lower noise, more RAM clearance&less weight. So, Noctua bros Unite
It's not an upgrade to the D15, it's the single fan version. All the S in Noctua's line up stands for single fan. This cooler sits between the 14s and the 15. It's not an upgrade
I have this cooler on a X99 no-overclock build. It seems to work fine with one fan. Don't hear any noise at all but since it's in a r5 case it would mute it anyways. Haven't had any heat issues during gaming either. There are additional 3 fans in the build so that might be why too.
The "S" does not indicate that this is an updated version of the D-15, as is a a common misconception. The "S" merely stands for "Single Fan" which is why this variant of the D-15 costs slightly less. However, the D-15 has better price to performance than the D-15S.
That's exactly why I had to get the NH-D15S for an X99-M WS and recently upon build a new Z590-I mini ITX I was so impressed how adaptable it is to squeeze into the tight LGA1200 socket on an ASUS ROG Strix Z590-I Gaming WiFi. The NH-D12DX-i4 fits in there smoothly as well.
Was sitting here for a few moments wondering what the hell you were doing waving around the cord, thought it was the power cord. Then I saw the text at the bottom and wondered why you hadn't plugged it in yet. Dam that thing is quiet.
The engineering and manufacturing changes are not without cost. - So they bring out a re- engineered product for better compatibility - Then they have to decide if it will be there most expensive model or loose a feature to keep the price point in line. - I think they made a fair choice - It leaves you the option of second fan selection and the added cost if you feel you need it.
i can confirm. Its 160mm tall. Bought nhd15s some days ago after a lot hesitation about the size but it fits my x99 build perfectly. mobo asus x99 a usb 3.1 // corsair carbide 200r and gtx 1070 rog strix. Not to add that temps are in heaven :) even at 4.1 ghz
I run a D15 w/ 3x 140mm Noctua fans on it for my 5900x. Also have the D15 Chromemax with 2x black 140mm fans on my daughters 5600x. It was only $80 with the white covers. Looks great in her build but overkill for the stock 5600X.
D15s was meant to be the high capability variant .. or no intruding into the 1st pcie slot or ram slots (left or right) .. that's why there's only 1 fan .. looking at it for what it was designed for instead of as an upgrade to the d15 .. it should be rated equally if not .25 stars less for slightly higher temps
Not related to your video I know, but I see that V for Vendetta poster and man what a great movie. Always surprised when folks haven't seen it. Great taste in movies. Luv your vids and subbed to your channel. Allot of good info for noobish folk like me. Inspiring me to go looking for used, even though I have a new Taichi AM4 coming. My wife is not going to like me spending but meh.
at $80 msrp this makes it actually a better purchase if you plan to swap the fans for something a little more aesthetically pleasing. It's always such a shame to see high quality noctua fans go un-used tho.
Just put them somewhere in a case they aren't going to be seen, in a haf xb for example, putting them in the front of the case makes them invisible until you open it up so they can't be seen and they don't go to waste.
I read somewhere that the weight of the larger coolers can actually harm a board. I am new, so forgive the stupidity. Anyway, I thought it might be a better idea than a AIO option for my new Taichi AM4 board. I've seen other tech tubers praise the Noctua coolers, and I am a bit concerned about putting an AIO in the case. I don't doubt that AIO's would not sale well if they had problems. But still. What say the jury?
The NH-D15S is Coper base with aluminum heat spreaders. It's light for it's size. Just measure your case it should be wide enough to fit the height of the cooler. The NH-D15S fit's inside a Corsair 570x RGB I just built.
I ordered this cooler for my ryzen 9 5900x build and it should be here Monday, I'll update my comment when it arrives and let you all know how well it preforms
@@s2DoubleU I’m not gonna lie I completely forgot about the comment. It’s been in my pc ever since I bought it 5 months ago and I’ve had no issues what so ever, it can reach up to 80c under full load using aida64 at max boost without thermal throttling. I mainly play games and I’ve never seen my cpu go above 40% utilisation with a 3080ti and 32gb of 3600mhz cl16 ram.
I personally have such cooler and can say it is just amazing! Currently the CPU is clocked from 3.2 to 3.5 idles at 45 and loads to 100% at 51 degrees.
So basically they are the same thing? beside 1 fan and 2 fans? am I right? Because both is available for me for $80. If i get the d15, I can just get the D15 and take away 1 fan right?
I don't get the point of a low noise adapter at all. Any decent brand motherboard comes with fan speed tuning that works on any fan, PWM or not. Cause all a adapter does is make the fan run at lower speed which can be done in BIOS or with software anyway. They are a gimmick and nothing else.
*OLD POST but still worth an important comment as these are still great CPU coolers today* He takes off points for the lack of TWO fans on the NH-D15s but also tells us the NH-D15 is slightly noisier... UMM... so then who cares? If the NH-D15s fan spun a little faster then it might have the SAME cooling potential anyway. If you're going to say this you need to NORMALIZE FOR NOISE and only then compare the temperatures. Seriously guys, the NH-D15s is arguably the best cooler still for most people due to its superior compatibility with RAM (i.e. DDR4) and the top slot. Hopefully a BLACK version comes soon.
i have an old air conditioner and some box fans. i wonder if i can gut it then patent it and license it to noctua. they could call it their compact model
Good review, I own the Noctua NH-D15 and the be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 3. Have you done any Dark Rock Pro 3 reviews or plan to do so? I wish Noctua would release a dark cooler that the Dark Rock Pro 3. I been comparing them both and they seems to be apart by a few degrees and currently is keeping my 5820k cooled at 4.5Ghz 39-40C normal use. I also have a temp gun that I use to test them beside the system utility.
+Tech YES City Sorry didn't mean to type a who big thing so I edited my answer to you. To make my answer shorter to you I feel the Noctua NH-D15 is a bit better at dealing with higher temps bit in return a little bit noisier compare to the Dark Rock Pro 3 which handles its own fairly well. Even at higher temps is quieter than the NH-D15 plus honestly I feel it looks a lot better too. At least in my case that the color scheme is black and grey with a touch of red. lol So in the end it was a trade off a couple of degrees versus quieter and aesthetics. Is why I choose the Dark Rock Pro 3 and I own both.
my sandy bridge i5 was idling at 50c with the stock intel cooler in a CM masterbox Q300L so i bought one of these not really convinced it would fit but i did it anyway it fits correctly, but barely - and now my cpu idles cooler than my hard drive at 28-30C in an arizona summer, and this is without a rear case fan since i had to remove it because it wouldn't fit anymore, lol (which honestly might just be because of the way my motherboard is laid out) at full load i haven't seen it go higher than 55c so it's a nice improvement over the stock cooler which let me hit 76c at some point
I would love to hear which one you'll choose for your pc. Im still confused which one to buy for my 5950x and my 3080. My mobo will be an msi ace and my case a fractal define meshify s 2
+makeleletoulalan Lol what do you mean? Define R5 is great case and mid-tower it's a roomy case. it's totally fine? I run the Noctua NH-D15S and Fractal Design Define R5. Also aio sucks in my opinion lol.. i had the corsair AIO. But it's noisy as fck :D and can leak, and is harder to install. so, those are the cons. both water and air have pros and cons. (AIO vs Air, not custom loops). Also air has much better value.
D15s has one less fan, pushes Less air and Bolton set of fins are trimmed for ram clearance so they are not the same. You can add another though. I’d try to be clearer in the beginning of vid. Separately what do diabetics have to do with it?
Had to downvote because you minus a star for price. In canada, the price of this 15s is lower, meaning it would become the same if you buy another fan anyways!
Do you think this cooler is enough to handle overclocked Xeon 1680 v2? i'm thinking between this noctua or going for cooler artic liquid freezer II 360
I want a NH-D15 because it comes with 2 fans but I'm not sure if it will fit on a S340 Elite. Does anyone know if it fits or not even with one fan, I don't care about the ram clearance? if it doesn't fit then I'll just go with the D15S.
Are you sure its height is 164MM? I want to use that cooler in my nzxt s340 elite in which there's 161mm clearance. On noctua's website it is written that the Cooler's height is 160mm including the fan. Can someone that use the same case and cooler can confirm please? Thanks!
please review the cryorig r1 ultimate, from the reviews I've seen it gives the d15 a run for its money, even beating it in some cases, it's what i have for my system coz i liked the look of it and it preforms so well. they are kinda hard to get a hold of but I'm sure you could get one brian
+Gareth Agnew I recently threw on a Cryorig H7 on my 4790k. I absolutely love it, I can't hear it at all and it's designed not to interfere with the memory slots. I'd really like to see/hear those Noctua Redux fans in action, 'cause my old Enermax case fans are noisy as.
+Probo X i love the r1 ultimate, got it on my 4790k and it does ana amazing job and i love the looks one of the best looking coolers, cryorig definitely make some nice coolers.
+Gareth Agnew Yes the Cryorig are good coolers. Though not so nicely available in my country. and I like the looks of the Premium Noctua products. they themselves call them premium and colours accordingly=rich creamy white, nice brown. And very quiet fans and efficient ones at that. cryorig not so readily available here. I got the Noctua NH-D15S with Intel i7 4790k myself.
Does Noctua NH-D15 fit in Zalman Z1 neo caase?? Case supports maximum height 160mm, Noctua with fan is about 165mm high, can I close the case? There is a little more space in this ''window'' Please help, I appreciate.
Noob Question: First Build. Hello there, I'm building my own PC and Intend to use the Noctua NH-D15S to cool my CPU but I'd like to know what fan configuration I should use on the Noctua NH-D15S cooler when using 2 fans? On the Noctua website the FAQ page for the Noctua NH-D15S says that "On dual-tower coolers such as the NH-D15S, we recommend to run the 1500rpm version in the centre and the 1200rpm version on the front" but this doesn't say whether both fans should be pushing air or if I should have one pushing and one pulling. Can you please let me know what the best Push Pull configuration would be when using 2 fans with the Noctua NH-D15S cooler? Thanks.
Ok this is the problem I seem to see so correct me if I have it wrong.... The NH-D15S comes with one 1500 rpm fan which seems to be a modded version of the NF-A15 PWM. The NF-A15 PWM available to buy separately is listed as a 1200 rpm fan. So the only way to get a second fan to match and be on par with the NH-D15 is to purchase the NH-D15S then save up and buy the NH-D15 so one fan can be stolen from it to fit the NH-D15S ?????? Just to add an little extra to the problem does the NH-D15S cooler or the NF-A15 PWM fan come with an additional clip to attach it to the cooler ?
+First Last The difference between 1 vs 2 fans is 2-3 degrees max, so not so big deal. I've build a 5820k rig for a friend with the NH-D15S, and 4GHz auto overclock trough quick tune on a asrock x99 extreme 4 mobo. The temps peak at 67 degrees max on AIDA64 stress test. So yeah. Probably the reasoning behind them including one fan is mainly because it might interfere with higher profile ram (and people buying it for max compatibility), and including a fan that people with high profile ram might not use is not very productive. lol And the S is cheaper, so if it was the same price I would have a big problem with them.
+Astralify I was under the impression they were the same MSRP? If cheaper MSRP then one fan is justified, but not one human being I know likes to downgrade :p.
+Astralify Just out of interest though..What is the sound difference between an S version doing a grand job running one fan at full to keep an overclocked pc within temps ..and a non S runninng two fans at 50% ?? Will the two fans running at a lower speed be quieter, if so what would the temp differences be like at the same overall volume ? wish I had the equipment to answer my own questions on the NH-D14 lol
@@lucasmarinzeck7028 Acabei pegando o watercooler Thermaltake Floe Riing 240 TT Premium Edition...
Alex Marajh - He pronounces Aluminium absolutely correctly, so what are you on about??!! It's NOT pronounced Alooominum, as US folks pronounce it, if that's what you're alluding to. I've just looked up 'Aluminium', and found this, FYi - Aluminum and aluminium are two names for element 13 on the periodic table. In both cases, the element symbol is Al, although Americans and Canadians spell and pronounce the name aluminum, while the British (and most of the rest of the world) use the spelling and pronunciation of aluminium. America(ns) has Bastardised (with an 's', not a 'z' btw) the English language for years, and it continues to this day.
Davy Bloggs yo, shut the fuck up, English English and American English are two different things, getting buttheart over American and Canadian word pronunciation is absolutely fucking stupid
+Scheefinator I still use a noctua NH-D14 and while idling or watching films there is no need for the fans to spin at all. Add to this an SSD and a GTX980 Strix (Which also does not need to spin a fan at small loads) and a Seasonic hybrid passive psu and I have a completely silent pc for media and uni work. The fans then spin themselves up in games depending on the cpu temp and usage.
Tech YES City I mean sure, but they are better and will get temps way lower. Not so easy to install though. But the pros outweigh that I don't like business.
+Scheefinator I can tell you my own experience. DONT BUY THEM! I had a Corsair AIO.. (ALL IN ONE, Liquid Cooler, its the one youre talking about. the custom watercooling is a different subejct where you build the system yourself and its better than corsairs All in One). I had the corsair h100i and its so noisy shit!!! IT'S NOISY! Now yesterday I got the Noctua NH-D15S installed and it's SO QUIET. I can think again, because there isn't a huge ear-aching noise. Also the D15S is cheaper, in this video the guy said accidentally wrong information. it's cheaper than the normal d15 is. And it's easier to install than watercooler, yeah.
I have heard that Noctua's are real quiet and have performance to boot. I have a Corsair H100i GTX. It is not noisy at all, man. You set it in Quiet mode.
@@cmoneytheman how so ? the enermax t40 pretty much was with in margin of error to the nh-d15s on both the chips tested here im not talking about the 99$ d15 or dual d15s where you have to buy another fan as thats a different bracket
+Ng Khan Mein It's not designed for locked consumer-grade processors, which are always cooled adequately by stock coolers (you'd only go aftermarket for lower noise). However, unlocked i5/i7 processors, particularly LGA2011, put out a LOT more heat. (A 4690k will throttle on a stock cooler at stock settings - Intel didn't even bother putting stock coolers in the box for Skylake k-series CPUs, they're not adequate.) If you're on a $2000 system with a heavily overclocked i5/i7 then $100 for a great air cooler isn't bad at all.
+Ng Khan Mein Stock cooler is shit. Try to run prime 95, or occt, and see how you would end up in temp. One thing is when you surf the web, another when gaming. But there is hole another thing when you clock you computer to. Most new CPU have so much more to go with in MHz, you will come to the point where that its a cheap investment to clock and squish your CPU by 10.0 MHz more. I have clocked mine from 2.9 MHz to 4 MHz. I could not do this with stock cooler. ended up to 99 Celsius in OCCT. That even with new a heath paste on CPU, and clocked, and this shitty Intel stock Cooler.
i won't run prime 95 or even OCCT. sry i don't trust benchmark. importantly, my games run very smooth & no glitches. benchmark is not legit to me. i don't like overclock cpu. amatuer user here.

+Ng Khan Mein That's Ok, you have your use :) But you can trust Prime 95 and OCCT. It will run the pc at full load 100% in this programs. OCCT or prime 95 is no benchmark, but a stress test, that will run you cpu at 100% load. Games will not run at 100% load anyway. Games are about around 50% and less in load, usually. But as for me it was a chock that the cpu was so hot with the Intel stock fan. But with the new heath paste on, it was lowered the heath from 98% to 89% in 100% load when it was unclocked. I have no chance to clock at that numbers. But what I recognised was that the clock, if it went over 98%, the MHz clock on cpu was lowering it self automatic to adjust the heath to a lower level, that because of the fan that had nothing more to offer in that case. So for my case I have to use a new fan, especially if I want a better cooling, and clocking. I think anyway that 90 Celsius is to hot anyway. But be aware of the heat, you never know. It is important to check now and then if it's stable, and if it cooling is still good. But I going to purchase the newer model D15S, so I very excited on how my temp will be after the change :) If you have a new pc with x or k processor, you can do it with a program that Intel made, the easy way in a software.
thanks but i prefer AIDA64 instead of prime95. FYI, i tried OCCT PRO before which can cause a lot of issue. apparently, i use HWMonitor & my temp stay below 60°c while my ambient is around 34°c. furthermore, i'm gonna clean my heat-sink & apply arctic MX-4 soon since my rig is more than 1 year old.
I've got a 4690k at stock idling at 35-40 degrees and 56 at load, is this ok? My ambient is around 26-27 degrees. I've seen reviews idling at 28 and going 50 load. I've applied a thin layer of paste; about a pea size. Did I mess up or are my temps normal?
8 лет назад
I'm no expert but considering ambient the idle and load seem good. HAve you tried stress testing your CPU to see what the tems get up to? The paste is just there to eliminate any air gaps so a small ammount like you have spread thinly is what you need although there is loads of debate on spreading the paste or just using a blob but I spread it out and my temps are fine too.
the site says is 160mm tall including the fan not 165mm, idk who to believe im afraid to buy it and then not fitting noctua.at/en/productfaqs/productfaq/view/id/129/
