Just got the Noctua NH-U14S installed in my new build and can vouch for it's quietness and excellent cooling efficiency. i7 6700k overclocked to 4.8ghz @ 1.42 V and it idles at 28 with extreme heavy load at 69. Absolutely amazing value and performance.

1.42v? I am oc ing my i5 6600k to 4,6ghz with 1,315v and i'm already afraid :)

Just got a NH-U12S for my i7 4790k... It's extremely quiet. Runs quieter and cooler then all of the other fans in my computer. I think i'll be sticking with this heatsink and noctua fans in my future setups.

+Reaper1911gr Do you know what your temps were?
@pdizzle_1776
@pdizzle_1776 8 лет назад
Well before my processor was overheating at extreme loads, it got as high as 90 degrees celsius. It also had rapid temperature rises and drops, it never had a consistent temperature even at idle. Now it runs idle at 28 degrees celsius and never goes above 70 degrees celsius under extreme load. When I'm gaming my temps stay between 45 and 55 degrees celsius.

***** It's awesome, really big and awesome. Don't worry about it being loud because i can't even hear mine. The build quality is amazing. The only thing I don't like is the color of the fan but I can't really complain because it performs so great.

14S for PCI clearance, mount it horizontally, move the air from bottom to top. It will also allow for tall ram because there is a cutout for it in that orientation.

I've used noctua fans in my case for the last 2 years exclusively and I'm never had a problem. They're excellent.

Just so you're aware, the black noctua fans are for server/industrial usage (if i'm not mistaken). So expect 2500-3000 rpm fans. I personally don't care enough about acoustics to justify normal Noctuas but I may be tempted by these.
@Raven1024
@Raven1024 11 лет назад
I never said I thought it was 100% accurate. I just pointed out that with an ambient temperature as low as an AC can put out for his board, it is entirely possible. He said he measured his AC blowing out 19F air, if that's the case that's about a -7C ambient temperature. That would put him at a delta of 24C under load. This was not a 100% load (ie Prime95) it was merely Max Payne which is maybe 60-70% at best. A delta of 24C +/- 3C on a stock clock is quite possible.
@Raven1024
@Raven1024 11 лет назад
I think you missed the part where he has the AC blowing directly over the board. That effectively drops his ambient to whatever the AC blows out (or slightly above). Most times that's between 40-50F (4-10C) from what I usually see around here. 9C might not be far off for idle if the AC is as close as he implies, especially if it's underclocking itself when not under load.

You can check compatibility on the Noctua website. Is the U12S a good heat sink for over clocking around 4.2 on 4670K?

I bought the U14s and installed it on my 2.8ghz I5. Underload on the stock fan playing something like DayZ or Rome 2 temps would get to 80-90degrees and idle at 50 degrees Celsius or so. I've now overclocked the CPU to 3.8ghz and Idle temps are 40degrees and full load is about 55 degrees to 65 at 100% load. These are INSANE fans and damn near silent. In fact I can't really hear it at all.

Use Voltages when describing overclocks not frequency. Haswell can be really random in what voltages it needs at different frequencies making them almost useless when talking overclocking.

Less turbulence does NOT mean better cooling. If the flow is turbulent the whole flow takes up heat. In a laminar flow it's only the part touching the surface. Turbulent is louder, takes more power to move the fluid but it is more effective.

Don't be silly. The LNA is Noctua only and has a proprietary chip in so it is unhackable! LNA stands for liquid nitrifiable acid. Only Noctua possesses the amazing technology of slowing fans down! All other fans must run on max RPM!!! Kidding, of course is the adaptor a simple resistor. Put it looks nice with the sleeving ;) Perception is everything. BTW , if you want quiet just buy a Noctua NH-D14 and use 1 PWM fan. The noctua 120mm PWM fan between 400-800rpm are literally inaudible.

Thermalright Silver Arrow SB-E Extreme will beat any Noctua heatsink, but it costs $90 USD. The Phanteks PH-TC14PE will also beat them but it's not as quiet. I'd say the best air cooled heatsink out now is the Thermalright SA Extreme, but at that price you are not far off getting Corsair H110. For the $, the best heatsink out there is Thermalright True Spirit 140 for $40 at Nan's Gaming Gear. It's $10-15 more than CM Hyper 212+ but will mop the floor with it.

Always wanted to try Noctua, but for some reason I bought the ThermalRight SilverAarow. Had to remove the top piece of my corsair memory for clearance on one stick, which I wasnt thrilled to do but still seems to run fine.| The LNA adapter is most likely a resistor to cut voltage down to reduce rpm wrapped in techflex with heatshrink on the ends. Can build your own with ease, and most likely works on other fans.

So you're saying that clear dif, won't make a dif elsewhere in the line...? I wonder if that 37 W/mK is just a marketing strat or if they found a super (non-toxic) liquid alloy. It'd be interesting to see what they did...I know Cesium (with a mp of 28C) is 36 W/mK,(Mercury 8). But that few C dif I was meaning...5-10 W/mK for paste vs 15-37 W/mK for CLU vs a hs that's 235-400 W/mK...a def bottleneck in heat transfer to the hs regardless what you use. ofc results will vary using dif cpu's.

I think he said 18C, which still puts 10C right about the average. He got lucky there. Normally I would say not to bother with any specific TIM (it's like using one kind of skateboard wheel vs another to make your car go faster...almost meaningless), but that TIM is the bike wheel of skateboard wheels...the best you can get, so you'll see that 2-4C difference. And it would matter just the same between the IHS and heatsink :) I use other vids as examples, not knowledge. We have physics for that:)

there really is nothing new out that makes a difference.... the richland apu is not crazy better than the general a10 or 965/955. Basically everyone is waiting till the end of September when amd does a reveal for hawaii, intel drops the e series haswell, unfortunately kavari for the amd apu looks like an early 2014 release which sucks for budget guys. but the suggestions (almost one yr ago *except on ram prices) are frustratingly the same

Got a Noctua NH-U9B for my last machine. Most. Frustrating. Assembly. EVER! Took longer than everything else combined, just because of the ridiculous metal clips they use to attach the fans to the heat sink...I even cut my finger, trying to get those pieces of shit on that heat sink. Still got the scar and almost bled all over my motherboard. Noctua themselves told me they improved the clips for their newer models, but until I can see that for myself, I won't buy from them again.

What I was trying to say in a sarcastic way (sorry about that :P) was that you can not get under the temp in your room unless you use highpressure air. if your roomtemp is 78F your CPU can not get any cooler than 78F. It is part of thermodynamics in physics. What you are seeing as 9c idle is actually AMD having crap sensors that show a faulty temp in idle. :) How is it behaving in load?

O got the i5 4670k and the cooler master hyper 212 evo (cheapest air cooler available) and my temps never go above 62º. Its really cool but it overclocks like shit. At 4.2ghz it becomes unstable even at 1.255 volts. In my experience haswell doesnt get hot like everyone says it does, but its also not as stable. Id say if u can get to 4.2 at 1.2 volts ur doin really good. I got mine at 4.0 at 1.24 volts and its very, very cool.
