Nocturnal bird migration on the night of September 10-11, 2010 over central New York, USA as detected by bird's thermal radiation. The video was made with a skyward-facing thermal imaging camera (FLIR P65) with a 24-degree lens. The camera was positioned so that birds heading from the north to south would show up as targets moving from the bottom of the screen toward the top of the screen. In the higher resolution original video, more than 100 targets, mostly birds, can be seen passing per 5 minute period. On this night one of the largest early September nocturnal bird migrations in 20 years occurred over much interior New York State and central Pennsylvania.

I should mention that most bird migration on this night was above the detection of the thermal sensing system. This video just captures the lower stratum of what is mostly nocturnal bird migration. There are some bats too, and the fuzzy erratic moving targets are likely moths.

These are not birds. They’re self-luminated orbs.
