This is a clip from Wacken Open Air 2004, performed by Nocturno Culto of Darkthrone from Norway with Satyricon. This video can be found on an Armageddon Over Wacken 2004 DVD.
to everyone asking "wheres fenriz?" that is Frost on drums and this was actually Satyricon's performance and they decided to get Nocturno Culto to guest star live and they played a Darkthrone song obviously
mauro bertolone no kidding especially considering ANY live black metal performance from early days is buried in conjecture of a myth of a rumored legend
" MY ENTIRE PERFORMANCE THIS EVENING is DEDICATED TO QUORTHON and BATHORY " even ... or something along those lines anyways ... fucking great one way or another , fuck it ! Long live Quorthon , Nocturno Culto , defintely the only time Satyricon experienced something which resembled Norsk Arisk Black Metal as somebody has already pointed out ...
True! I’d kill to live a darkthrone concert experience the unknowingly lucky few got to have many years back. I get why fenriz doesn’t want to play live, Ted on the other hand has no issues with it, seeing him live like this isn’t a rare occurrence
Of course you can(fuck with them). For instance all the norwegian folk tunes on piano, that ends almost every song on The Shadowthrone. It so much, it's just corny. One track or two, maybe - but they just had to get over the top with "the norwegian" thing om almost every tune(ig not all). And, at least the three-four last albums are mediocre, at best. A few good tracks here and there, but that's it.
the camera should have focused more on Nocturno Culto. Satyricon performed flawlessly but Nocturno Culto is the real star. One of the only Black Metal shows I know of.
Every time I listen to this song, it's just so evil sounding and sick. I love it forever, will never forget the summer I mowed grass and listened to the unholy trinity of albums. I remember the exact spot I fell in love with DT and black fucking metal!!
it was so good. the sky seemed to suddenly go dark and the more traditional metallers all stepped back and suddenly there were black metal types everywhere. nocturno culto's entrance in the smoke was exhilarating. sound quality was great, brief darkthrone song selection was perfect, you could've cut the atmosphere with a knife. i'm no big fan of satyricon's studio albums, but they rocked it here and 'mother north' never sounded so good. probably my favourite wacken memory.
One of the best concerts I've experienced, if you exclude Satyricon. The JBO fans who came after the concert and asked themselves why everyone was leaving were funny. very disturbing
It is so chilling watching Frost do some Fenriz style drumming, and also to watch Ted preform live. I remember watching some Sarke clip of a live event just thinking damn he sounds so fckn grim live. True Norwegian Black METAL!!!!
I got into Black Metal around 2001 and recognized that this was a rare chance to see Nocturno Culto perform a couple of Darkthrone tracks, as well as seeing Satyricon and Mayhem all in one weekend. Wacken 2004 remains the only multi-day festival i ever attended, and likely that won't ever change. I'm not big on large groups of people but this small set of Darkthrone songs was a fun experience!
Makes you realise what a legend the guy is.Amazing to see him perform! One of the originals. When Black Metal was primitive and gnarly.Satyricon did a pretty good job of capturing the old Darkthrone sound. Can't help wishing that it was Fenriz there instead of Frost, though.Nocturno Culto's vocals are still right on fuckin' point. That looked like a special moment.Wish I had been there. 🔥👁️🔥
Awesome, just fucking awesome. Didn't have the atmosphere that Darkthrone are famous for but still damn good to see this song played live. Great upload.
yeah they did play it, ignore the guy above. full setlist: 01. Walk The Path Of Sorrow 02. The Night Of The Triumphator 03. Angstridden 04. Filthgrinder 05. Fuel For Hatred 06. Forhekset 07. Repined Bastard Nation 08. Hvite Krists Død -------------------- DARKTHRONE set w/ Nocturno Culto on vocals: 09. Kaatharian Life Code 10. The Hordes Of Nebulah 11. Transilvanian Hunger 12. Under A Funeral Moon --------------------- Encore: 13. Mother North (w/ Nocturno Culto on guitar)
This was the reason I traveled from California to my first Wacken experience was to see these Darkthrone songs performed. I'll never forget that night.
Some music should never be played live out in the open or when it's bright, I'm glad it wasn't bright when they played this. Imagine listening to some dark shit live on a bright sunny day in an open field, I saw Black Sabbath live few years back in a large open field, the sun was setting when they started playing and when they finished it was dark and there was light rain. They came back for encore and played the song Black Sabbath and I'll never forget how euphoric that moment was. Atmosphere can do a lot for music.
I would have hacked off my little pinky finger to have witnessed this show. I wish they would put this whole show out on dvd. It doesn't get much better than this.
It's understandable, the trve necro sound of the studio recording has it's place as defining Black Metal irreverence for sonic quality but it's nice to hear the full range of sound with bass frequencies intact. Nocto's vocals are just as otherworldly and grim live.
what a scene! ha, as I watched this I realize that how much I would have gived to see this! It's a fucking epic event - Nocturno Culto and Satyricon and a classic song from '93! Even though I've only seen this on video, I must admit that I was absolutely taken by this performance! I bet that those who were there that day saw something most unique and that it was worth all costs to see these fellas!
As musicians all we can do is keep writing songs to the best of our ability. Fuck, the reason I formed KHAN was because we were sick of hearing all the shit around us and had to play what we wanted to hear. This is a damn good show here; wish I could have been there.
