Edmonds and Metro...Partridge's double nemesis!

I remember testing a MG Maestro turbo and was surprised by the torque steer, I floored it on the motorway and it jumped lanes! Shame they did not remain in production for long.

Not enough in car footage for my liking, two of Britain's greatest achievements in motoring

I have fond memories of my Montego Turbo. A second gen version from 1990 (better spread of power apparently). It was ridiculously fast for the time. Downright dangerous torque steer in first and second but great fun. And yes, 125 - 130mph was easily achieved ;)

Both great cars and deserved to do better than they did. The MG maestro EFI was possibly the most underrated hot hatch of them all - it was genuinely a decent package back in the day. And Tony Pond and Steve Soper - what legends

Only a year after the Montego turbo, Ford unvelied the Sierra Cosworth. I think that Austin Rover missed a few tricks here though: Why didn't they do MG Montego EFi & Turbo estates ? Why not a VdP Turbo saloon & estate ? They already had all of the bits !!
@dougmanwithnoname1889

Remember though, the Sierra Cosworth had a Twin Cam 16 valve head that was developed by Cosworth as a project before Ford got involved. The Sierra Cosworth came about over a Pub Lunch, believe it or not. The Montego had the BL Single Cam 8 valve O series lump that was adapted (Turbocharged) via a blow through SU Carb for this application. There was a book I read a number of years ago about the design of the Cosworth engine, but I can't remember for the life of me what it is called!

+doug manwithnoname "Remember though, the Sierra Cosworth had a Twin Cam 16 valve head that was developed by Cosworth as a project before Ford got involved." - Did it ? Oh ! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Sierra_RS_Cosworth Yes, I know that BL turboed the 8v single-carb. engine but why not the EFi engine ?

@@lewis72 it's true they did it as a sort of inside project and had a pinto with the dohc head on display when Ford visited and then they asked about it and the conversation grew from there

Aparrently Noel Edmunds was certified to fly helicopters from 1984-2007 and owned 3 different types. My Blobby on the other hand flew Jellycopters...... I'll let myself out.

@@jgh548 no, fortunately senility isn’t an ailment I have direct experience of. The fact you didn’t consider contacting your GP is yet another warning sign. Seek the support of an appropriate adult, you undoubtedly are a very vulnerable person. Take care lil’ fella.

My first job in 1988 I regularly got to drive a MG 2.0 Montego. I remember it being fast & fun to drive. The guy whose car it was loved it and had no idea how fast I went. Definitely not a "crock of shit"
@DarrenCoull

I agree - I had three over the years, first I bought damaged and repaired it (had a head on collision with a Volvo!), the second was just a nice clean one I put MGF alloys on, and finally, I bought one that had the Rover 16v Injected Turbo engine in it - they all went fast, but the last one was incredible - these cars only weighed just over a ton. Moto-Build Racing was my favourite shop :-)
