"I don't believe in magic Life is automatic" I got tattooed on my arm. My opinion the best song of Oasis. The tune, lyrics, the voice of Liam and Noel is fantastic
Never seen or heard a version of ‘listen up’ that I don’t like. Possibly my favourite Oasis tune. Other fans will probably disagree, but I don’t mind being on my own!
That guitar riff repeatedly played & the bass line is just work brilliantly. I've played bass for 40 years.. the bassist on this has so much control.. I couldn't help walking around the frets if it was me playing.. great bass work on this .. can't fault the guy
I think I was virtually alone when I heard this song live for the first time on youtube at the Cabernet or wherever, it was in the early 2000's. The lyrics passed right through the blood brain barrier and it's been ingrained ever since. I think in those feelings of isolation I discovered strength and realized I was perfectly fine on my own! Didn't need abusers and would rather have 1 friend or zero friends than A-holes. "get on the bus, cause no fuss, I"m free!" (not the same song but the message is there in so many of his songs). Love this tune, it will always be one of my favorites by him and its one of those songs that cannot be duplicated in a studio, it's straight from the soul and meant to be performed just how it is.
Noel is a true genius of music, but we have to admit that Gem is very, very good and brought many things to Oasis, and is a perfect complement for Noel.
I loved the original recording with leam on vocals!! But I love this version even more! In my opinion Noel Galagher is probably the most Talented musician/singer/song writer to have emerged from the 1990s !
Always thought of the Oasis original as one of their best. So raw and encapsulated Oasis at their very best. Love this though. Wish they would get back together. The world needs Oasis back doing what they do. Cmon guys .
Hearing this song always tears me up because is like traveling back in time 10 or 13 years when I was a 6 year old kid seeing myself with the innocence that I've lost
I often feel like Noel makes a concerted effort to sing his songs the opposite way Liam did. I personally don't have a problem with that. It's like a totally different song in the best way possible
It’s funny cause I actually disagree with you. I think Noel sings this song way better than Liam and Noels live versions of the song are way better than the studio version. But Liam still sounds good.
Listen up, what's the time? Said today, I'm gonna speak my mind Take me up to the top of the world I wanna see my crime Day by day there's a man in a suit Who's gonna make you pay For the thoughts that you think and the words They won't let you say One fine day Gonna leave you all behind It wouldn't be so bad If I had more time Sailin' down a river alone I've been trying to find my way back home But I don't believe in magic Life is automatic But I don't mind being on my own No, I don't mind being on my own Listen up, what's the time? Said today, I'm gonna speak my mind Take me up to the top of the world I wanna see my crime Day by day there's a man in a suit Who's gonna make you pay For the thoughts that you think and the words They won't let you say One fine day Gonna leave you all behind It wouldn't be so bad If I had more time Sailin' down a river alone I've been trying to find my way back home But I don't believe in magic Life is automatic But I don't mind being on my own No, I don't mind being on my own No, I don't mind being on my own I said, that I don't mind being on my own Sailin' down a river alone I've been trying to find my way back home But I don't believe in magic Life is automatic But I don't mind being on my own I said, that I don't mind being on my own No, I don't mind being on my own I said, that I don't mind being on my own No, I don't mind being on my own I said, that I don't mind being on my own
Marcus Rogers Nah his best version was the one he did with Gem when he was still in oasis (the semi acoustic session). Guitar playing was better, better groove.
I think it makes him even more genius that he uses the exact same chords as wonderwall and it’s a completely different sounding song. True about a lot of Oasis’ songs. What a guy. What a tune.
As a player myself it's incredible to get so many songs using the same 3 to 3 chords. In different keys (using the capo) but many are in the SAME key and sound unique. That's a skill of simplicity in guitar playing that is actually hard to allow yourself to do these days. Just adding the backing rift of a triad pretty much changed the sound of listen up so much its amazing.
@@Eastsidechris Thanks a lot for your knowledge in your reply Chris. I play too and can appreciate a lot of what you're saying, but you're definitely ahead of me with some of your musical theory. Thank you for sharing
@@JasonC1704 I'm sure someone will come by and put me in my place too. It's just the level I understand it but in advanced theory like the sus2 and add9s he uses, there's reasons he uses them....bc they were easy open chords he was taught around town.. but now that he has the experience of playing lead live...I'm sure guitarists have told him just how brilliant the chord variation is and why and when tonuse them. The Beatles had good people in the srudio..studio. so did oasis after WTSMG
Brilliant song and perfectly written 👌 I appreciate these songs now more than I did back in the day...more mature maybe and can relate to situations 😊🎸💜
Oh how I live this song 🙏🏻 one of my favorites. Such a beautiful version this one and how about the guitar solo. Noel just had to have a little wink to Gem to top it off 😉
