Randos making RU-vid videos need to do that when they know very little. Its s all about being loud, and the stupid background music and the "recording studio with lights" when they dont actually know anything.
Great review. I'm gonna be unplugging from smartphones and social media and focus more on my life and those close to me. This Nokia 2720 is the right one for me.
@@mwanjelorwence4711Yeah, I wonder why?? Why would they not want to spend all their time on social media or the smartphone to use their time for truly meaningful things instead of being around these people calling themselves family and friend. Honestly, no clue😶
This review is brilliant. You've nailed my decision for me. The fact I can uninstall Facebook to just not have it as a visual distraction is great I don't have a Facebook account I only have Instagram but I can live without that. I did want a dumb phone but with WhatsApp due to connecting with family groups... My only thought now for the one issue I might come across is no access to banking apps I've been in situations where I've had to move money around while on the go, but for now we'll see. Nokia 2720 flip, purchased! 👍🏻 This
Thanks for this review. I had KaiOS in mind for quite a time. I wanna put my smartphone in a pc/tablet role and not carrying around. Too much distraction and all. I like the Nokia 2720, especially after this review of yours. Yes it is still expensive and the camera is a shame, but in other fields it looks awesome. Thanks again, you have helped me a lot!
I have the Nokia 2720 Flip and it’s a good secondary phone and with 4G it will work when 2/3G disappears, battery life is ok and replaceable, good call quality / texts and E mail, and the assistant is quite good,I also use it as a MP3 player with micro SD card, an improvement over the original 2720 which I no longer have, only in Black in uk, nice video Scottie as on a few reviewers cover the non smartphones I liked the 8110 video hope you review more of the same.
Hi, Peter. Since you're using 2720 for a while now, it'd be much appreciated if you could help a little. I'm planning on to get this when it'll launch here but as an user how much would you recommend considering all the specifications? They said 27 days of battery stand by, how much is it in reality and how smooth it runs. Kindly reply. Thanks.
@Traderhorn Hi, since the 3G network is being phased out, I'm desperate to find a non-smartphone that still is decent but works on 4G. Have been looking into this model, but then Nokia 1st told me you CAN send/received MMS with it, yet when I double-checked that it would include sending/receiving MMS w/ not only pictures, but also sound files, they said no?? Which seems completely retarded. My old Sony Ericsson C905 model from 2008 works that way, at least. Under the Messaging menu, you pick either SMS or MMS, and under MMS you can record a file and send as a MMS. Surely, that must work also on this one?? Else I'm f ............! This is the only phone I can imagine getting:/ Pls, could you confirm or deny this about sending/receiving MMS containing sound files? Big thanks in advance!
this reminds me of early android so much. Seeing apps like fake call and others be the top apps on the store remind me of what android was like in the early 2010s.
Thanks for the great information, Scottie. I plan on getting a flip for my next phone. I'm am going to def. Have this phone at the top of my list. Take care.
The pointy clicking thing is called a dpad short for directional pad since you are using it to move in different directions just like video game controls
I went into shop today to check if I could find new dumb phone for me. Smart guy showed me 2720 flip, but he was dumb about what it does, didn't even unpacked one and so was I. Surrounded by smart phones, I learned the price and left dumb. But now, I'm smart and I'll go and by that dumb. Thanks!!
Yes same here, problem is shop salesmen get very little commission bonus unless they are selling you apple, Samsung etc or a network contract. You walk in with the prospect of spending £50 and they are not interested, managers will push them to sell the expensive stuff that lasts 18 months.
Thanks Scotty! Very cool, but do you know if it's telemetering data to Google and Facebook if you are not using the apps, and if it's doing any Wi-Fi triangulation?
I use the Nokia 2760 flip phone as a main phone but I use a smart phone on the side, 3-4 times a week but less. I'm going to get another flip phone, the Alcatel my flip 2. It's a nice little phone.
Thanks for the recommendation! The Nokia 2720 is around 130.00 right now. Good advice on waiting past the holiday season. If prices are low enough then, I'll probably snap one up! As always, thank you for the work you do!
Hello Scottie, does this phone come close (menu and 'key-combination-wise', like for example 'lock keypad') to a classic Nokia from the nineties/early 2000's? I've been looking all over to find a 'mobile phone for the elderly' and learned from experience a lot of these people have underestimated their 'dependency' on the ease of use of the classic Nokia menu. Because of, imho, Nokia's poor offering for this audience, a lot of them ended up with something that looked like a Nokia (probably wrongly presuming it would work likewise) and quickly ended up ditching it. I was hoping this one would fit the bill. What do you think? Thank you for your informative video!
I’ve been back and forth… I’m going back to a flip phone! I’ve had enough with smart phones. But I’ll still have it for email and a camera. Technology is going to get worse.
Excellent review. I have always liked nokia phones and now looking for a flip dumb phone. Based on your review, i will get this! PS: loved your voice. And i've clicked subscribe.
Yep, this one is a big plus for me. I've been following your discussions/reviews on these and this is definitely a potential future replacement :) yay for big, usable button.
Gonna sub, but it looks like I'm already subbed to your channel! Any experience with Bluetooth keyboards with this? Any options for Signal, Proton or comparable? Thanks Happy holidays :)
Happy Holidays! I just tried my Bluetooth keyboard with it, and it pairs according to the phone, but not according to the keyboard. So, it seems that might be a problem. As for Signal and Proton, there's nothing yet. WhatsApp yes, but that's about it so far.
I love every one of your concise videos! I'm tech challenged w/questions. Can I switch my Obama-phone service to a new Nokia 2720? Are they unlocked out of the box? Does the 2720 use a sim card? I resist using my android Trac-phone because it sometimes has a mind of its own and must be charged often. Thanks, Scottie and Cletus.
Unlocked, GSM networks only, dual SIM card slots. Whether or not you can use it as a replacement for the Obama phone depends on the service provider. I'm not sure, actually!
Thanks for the video Scottie. I got the 2720 after your previous video giving KaiOS the thumbs up. Bye bye smartphone! Going to get my Dad one for the holiday season..he'll love the big buttons:)

i just bought the phone for my grandma! i don't know if she can utilise the kai os fully. but at least it has 4g, so if 2g and 3g is not available anymore. I can still call or text her. she used the old nokia phone (the t9 keyboard) for a very long time. although this phone's price we can buy a smartphone (low spec). But, I think this phone suitable for my grandma. at least she doesn't have to think about charging a phone so much and she knows how to use t9 keyboard. Thanks Scotty. You got a new subscriber.
Thanks Scottie, great review however, on Nokia's website they say that the text on the 2720 Flip can be made bigger for those of us who struggle and this is one reason for the big buttons and larger screen. I will be buying one of these very soon and for that reason, great that you can remove Facebook etc. Thank you.
I know the majority of KaiOS feature phones don't run uber as an app but do you know any models where it's possible to book an uber via the website? I'm looking to downgrade for a social media detox and only really need a phone which I'm able to book an uber on to travel..even if it's via the web browser. Thanks.
@@Brabbs All in all i'm very happy so far. There are some inconveniences (like texting is slow, internet is almost not usable) - but to be honset...this is exactly what i was looking for as it keeps me from doing that stuff too often. :-)
Scottie, I found this video so intetesting that I have transcribed like 99% of what you said in the video. If you would like a copy of this transcription, send me a private message with your email address, or another contact method of your chosing. I have 3 questions: (1) Is the Nokia 2720 unlocked; (2) Does it use GSM; (3) Can it be used here in the US with a cell carrier, like AT&T which uses GSM? I thank you in advance for your response to my offer and my 3 questions!
Hi, much of thanks for the lovely and useful video. You said that it's not possible to make a voice call, although I read at Kaios Homepage that WhatsApp supports both voice and video call on the latest version of Kaios. Could you please confirm!
I'm not sure... Don't use WhatsApp, but the last thing I could find is from June of this year where a WhatsApp dev said that voice calling is "challenging" on KaiOS phones. Voice MESSAGES work, but apparently not voice/video calling. Where did you see that info?
Is this phone good for senior citizens.. how about answering calls by wats app. Is it easy? Ease of communication is the key.. please let me know your honest answer is it good for elderly people who are wont do good with smart phone but ok to use a normal featured phone
I'm looking for a 4g/4g lte dumb phone that works on Verizons network, takes good pictures, has a qwerty keyboard, and can send and recieve photo texts. Bluetooth would be nice for calls in the car. Do not want google, apps or internet. Any help?
If I could navigate the home screen with the keypad, I'd be back to my old Nokia brick phone days... Hehhehe.... Gosh I miss two-handed navigation. And typing with the keypad!! Without looking...
Excellent review I have a Android smart phone thats like 5 years out of date and it still runs great but I barely use any of the features it offers and is a bit of a brick in my pocket this is perfect for me.
how about lets call it direction keys or pad, cause from what I could remember that was what they used to call it cause their main function is up down left right to navigate.
does anyone know if all phones are compatable with standard earbuds with mic, for making calls using headset? some phones i see out there say bluetooth compatable, but none say it's compatable with a wired headset. anyone know of a flip phone dumphone compatable with wired, old school, headset (e.g. not bluetooth)
Hi. My Nokia Flip phone worked fine first off all but Whatsapp no longer pushes messages. I received a replacement phone and still the same. Nokia tell me to wait for a future update. Does your phone work ok with WhatsApp with messages arriving without having to open WhatsApp? I have tried two different carrier SIM cards. Thanks
Something important if you click the * and # buttons together on the 2720 flip (I can only confirm on that phone because I use that phone) you take a screenshot
Hey love your take on this phone, and "dumbphones" in general. Great vid! I'm thinking of moving to this phone, but I can't seem to find the answer to one question anywhere... can this phone 2-way sync my contacts, email, and CALENDAR to my outlook.com account? All I could find online are statements saying it doesn't work in 2018, but this is 2020, and I'm sure progress has been made. Any idea? Thank you so much!
Ehhhhhhhhhh I don't understand why on earth you put Google as having anything to do with the Linux kernel. It is quite misleading hinting they are developing it. You mention that Google apps could be uninstalled but not easily, how so?? Other than all that, you really did a great review. Can you do a video on Nokia 800 Tough?
i have the 6300. seems very similiar. it is ok generally but the texting is weird. you cant test fast because you end up with a mess and spen more time deleting than typing. Is it the same with all these nokia KaiOs phones does anyone know? thanks
Are you US-based? I've been trying to find anyone who has used this on AT&T in the US. I've read conflicting reviews about whether or not it works on ATT.
I evidently got a call while on a call.....and for hours got a beep/beep every ten seconds, and since this phone is so non intuitive I couldn't find any way to see what caused the beeping or how to frigging turn it off . i had to hit restart - and not sure if I could find that again.......
Well I bought the phone for the same reasons on the video. Unfortunately the operating system kept crashing. It was very slow. I kept getting messages saying kaiOS has crashed. I don't think it's a phone problem, it's definitely a software problem. The idea of kaiOS is great but I think they really need to be testing their phones out before selling them. I can't recommend kaiOS.
You're not the first person to have that problem. It's strange, because I'm on my second KaiOS phone now and they've both been rock solid. What the problem is, I agree that they need to get it fixed ASAP!
I really wanted to love KaiOS but the update for whatsapp (around version 14.00) still isn't released in the Netherlands. When i contacted support they were unable to tell me what was wrong. As soon as the update releases here I'll gladly give that flip phone a shot... Or maybe the banana haha
Not necessarily. It depends on the power consumption of the whole phone, and how much battery life the manufacturer wants the phone to have. Transmit power and SAR (RF Specific Absorption Rate) levels can be very low for a phone with a large battery - and vice versa.
I got the Nokia 2720 Flip phone before the whole pandemic thing, and I was going to see if I can survive using this phone in 2020, but I'll postpone my experiment until later this year.
Hmm, that's interesting. That seems to happen for a variety of people on several different KaiOS phones, but I have yet to experience it myself. I wish I would, becuz then maybe I could figure out why!
I did watch/listen all the way through - however, too much info for me - and not enough info on how to use the damn thing! However, YOU did give me more info than 2 hours of Verizon CHAT - and I thank you. The phone is taking a very long time to charge - and I don't know if something is wrong. Again, thanks.
