This movie impacted me so much, I haven’t felt like this over a movie in YEARS! The pure beauty of it made me cry so much. It was like a cleansing experience. Wonderful, beautiful movie

My partner and I watched this film last night, and while he did not enjoy it as much as I did, I was absolutely blown away by it. As someone who has struggled with feeling like I am a nomad in my own life, this movie hit right to my core, and I especially loved Fern and Swankie. The space that we saw surrounding Fern felt like we were looking at the world from her point of view, in all of its bright and bleak moments. Swankie hit home because of the way she planned to live her life to the fullest until the day she passed, and you could tell the impact this had on Fern because from the moment they part, Fern begins to live life for herself even more. This film is likely one that will stay with me forever, and while I understand the criticism from some, I completely agree that this film is a cinematic poem carefully pieced together to leave a lasting memory in viewers minds.

I watched this awhile back with my family and even though none of my family members enjoyed it and called it rather boring I loved it for certain reasons the whole movie made me feel at ease as if i was just watching a major part of me happening right infornt of my eyes,I didn’t really understood the reason behind what I was experiencing or why I was feeling the way I did,but thanks to your amazing words as usual I was convinced and understood the movie better which led me into discovering a piece of myself too so again I’ll thank you for this amazing explainations💖🙏🏻 the last scene when Fren went back to their old house I started crying and sobbing i value the sense of belonging very much seriously and felt Fren’s pain as she came back to a place she once belonged to which now was gone not physically but rather spiritually Fren’s love was gone with all her sense of belongings I think Fren did not even came back to her“home”but came back to the nostalgia the memories and what was once a place to belong to she came back to remember once again The home for me was a methaphor of a life that once belonged to Fren and now was completely gone and shattered into pieces throughout the whole film she was trying to hold onto those pieces that were left of her so called “home” like the plates and glasses (which she didn’t let go of and even glued them together)or the pics even the little poetry she recited while not belonging to anything(always on the road)and fearing to find “home” again and finally I think at the final scene she kinda accepted that now it was no “home” to return to and maybe it was okey to let go and move on. At least that’s my veiw and it can be very wrong,All and all it was a great movie I haven’t felt like this for awhile it was definitely one of my favs. Hope that no one ever feels the bitter sense of not belonging to anything but their own past and memoirs💖

Nomadland really holds a special place in my heart. It really is a tranquil movie that just made me think about everything in my life. Not many films do that to me these days, if any really.

I used to live in the town where they shot some of the scenes in this film, it really gave a genuine sense of home and the people I grew up with. The shots in specific, captured the rare barren backdrop of the desert.

Wow thank you for this video essay. I haven't seen Nomadland but it seems so beautiful and it's themes really resonate with me. It's weird how life presents you with the things that you need at the right time. Thank you for the excellent video, I can't wait to watch the movie now!

I left both Minari and Nomadland disappointed because I couldn't understand what made these films so highly acclaimed. Now having watched both your videos on each of these titles I can see what I was missing. I have long way to go in leaving my own comfort zone of Marvel/popcorn action flicks, and I look forward to more of your guidance. (I mean the sunset to dawn thing! It seems so obvious now but I just couldn't comprehend it while I was watching on my own.) Cheers!

Definitely to my surprise, I started crying like 15 min into the film DEADASS. don't even remember what scene but the tone and the mood of loneliness, isolation, and hopelessness really resonated with me. Such a beautiful piece of art. Chloe Zao absolutely deserved the Oscar. It felt soooo real. Not even acted, just like a camera put on to normal people. Loved it :)

Finally saw it last night. I loved it. Def gonna check out the book as well. I thought the father was the best this year...but nomadland it is for me

After I watched this film I watched Chloé Zhao's previous film The Rider and I felt much closer to the characters in that. I will definitely keep my eyes on Chloé, she's a good storyteller.

This grim tale is like a visual meditation of eternal bereavement. Fern's personal loss and isolation are further reflected in her desolate surroundings -- from the frigid and defunct town of Empire to the barren desert. Filmed using natural lighting, most scenes are dim to dark conveying her hopeless demeanor.

Unfortunately I can't find anywhere to watch the movie, I don't have disney plus, but I do love it just by the way it's portrayed. Every shot I've seen looks beautiful and the short clips of the movie capture a lot of the really touching moments

I finally saw the film, it felt like poverty porn to me. Having read the book the film is based on which was a pretty grim and cutting portrait of life under the thumb of American capitalism and see that co-opted for a journey of self discovery isn't really what I was expecting. I finished the film feeling like the movie had done what it needed it, it was just fine. As I read about the production and interviews with the director and lead my tastes soured. The film was deliberately defanged of any political implications and refrained from showing any of the hardships of living life as an American without a home, without consistent work, without heal care while nearing what would be considered by many to be retirement age. The pro-Amazon slant was a huge shift from the book where one of the women featured in the book calls Amazon the "largest slave-owner", while in the film "they pay really well". The book Nomadland and McDormand's dream of being a free spirit living on the road are not compatible. It's just dishonest to me.
