Appreciate that!! It’s not for everyone, I’m still trying to find a nice medium sized backpack better suited for shorter day trips. It’s still in kickstarter, but the Shimoda Urban Explore has peaked my interest if that might better fit your needs!

The main zipper broke on mine, not sure how but it was just the metL zipper tab you pull on. I took the nylon zipper pull and put it through the locking hole on the zipper and use it that way. Meanwhile I emailed Nomatic to see if they had a zipper I could replace and they just sent me a new bag. So now I kinda have 2 thanks to the extreme warranty of Nomatic. I'd agree the side access sucks and a second water bottle pocket would have been great. I also don't use the RFID but the extendable packing pocket fits all the clothes I need for a weekend and I use all the time, it's actually why I bought the pack and it's been the feature most worth it to me. Plus its a little larger so I can fit all my gear. I've never complained that its not big enough, but I do want a smaller bag for some smaller day trips. Something about half the size. Which I haven't found yet.

That’s great that Nomatic actually stands behind their warranty. I have not had any issues and worked with them, but it’s nice to hear that! I have been looking for a smaller day bag for months now with no luck, if you do end up finding one you like, I would love to hear about it!!

Jason, thank you for your superbly done video and review of this awesome backpack! I recently acquired this 35L size, which fits my 180-600 (lens hood reversed), Z8 with 24-120 f/4, and a Z7 with 14-30 f/4 lens, plus batteries, filters, and a few other items in the many mesh pockets. The expandable front compartment is an added bonus, as is the fact that it can stand vertically on its own. I agree that it is a premium quality bag, and seemingly built to last. I also like that it has load lifters on the comfortable shoulder straps, which I find many bags lack. Overall, I'm quite pleased with this camera backpack.

Nice Video keep up the good work. I have this Backpack since it came out and i am super happy with it. I use to keep my Passort in the frontpocket and never was afraid of getting it stole because of the Magnet its kinde of hidden. I dont think that a quick picpocket would notice it. But i also never used the side camera access and which also there where like 2 waterbottle spaces on each side one like you recommandet.

Around the US I am not super worried about pickpocketing, but I fly international semi frequently and am overly protective when it comes to my passport. I have never personally had an issue, just more of a preventative thing. Great to hear that you have been enjoying the bag, it’s still my go to, it’s been rock solid for 2+ years and I can’t really ask for much more than that!

I'm going on 3 years with mine. Holding up pretty well, pretty much my kitchen sink camera backpack now. For personal stuff I carry 3 cameras with me, a Nikon F5, Mamiya RB67, and a Nikon D850, single lens for the RB, Wide, zoom, and 50mm for the Nikons.

I have been looking for a smaller pack for day to day stuff, but it pretty much serves the same purpose for myself. I am on a trip now and was able to bring just about every piece of equipment I own packed away in this bag.

Side access should’ve been on the smaller 25 every day. Duel Water Bottle pockets needed to be on this one.

Completely agree with you! The 25L is more of a day pack which would benefit from that, the 35L is more of a multi day pack and should have all of the pockets.

Wonder if there’s a way to hold the tripod under the bag to be able to use the bottle holder

Possibly, there is the handle on the bottom of the bag that spans almost the entire length of the pack so you might be able to do something with that. My old bag use to carry the tripod on the bottom with two adjustable straps

Yep, the 8L Nomatic Sling bag was designed to perfectly fit inside the top section of this bag, it will not however fit inside of the 25L version. As long as you have the 35L version you are all good!

Does this fit under an airplane seat for carryon use?

It does! I just got back from a week long shoot flying with this exact backpack, on your short to medium range commercial aircraft you can easily fit it under the seat with an okay amount of room for your feet. Because of the stiff frame it doesn't really squish like a normal bag, but even on longer 5+ hour flights footroom was never an issue. On smaller regional planes where you can only bring a backpack and all carry on luggage must be checked, it does fit in the smaller overhead bins which is a nice plus.

The smaller 25L version has two water bottle/tripod pockets, one on either side. They did away with the side access door for that one.

@@AnonymousGameWarden The one I am most excited about, but is still on kickstarter is the Shimoda Urban Explore. Unfortunately it isn't slated to start shipping until Feb. 2024, but I could see the 25L becoming my new go to day pack.

@@JasonPischke looks promising.. is that the same one on B&H for 309.95? The v2? Or is a v3 the one coming out in February? Also what are your thoughts on the gura gear kiboko?

@@AnonymousGameWarden Slightly different. It is a part of the same Explore family, but is redesigned to be more daily use friendly. I have not personally used any Gura Gear products, but it looks like a well thought out and designed pack!
