ACHTUNG: DO NOT buy from Southern Records NMN reissues. I just learned today after posting my video that they are not paying the band their fair share!! Alternative Tentacles is going to reissue the back catalogue and as per what I have read that is all legit! Support the bands! I myself have bought two of the reissues from Southern Records and now I'm feeling a bit sad...Thanks for watching the video.
@@mattporwall5762 😀 Thank you for watching,Matt! NMN rules. Yeah it’s a damn shame about the label behaving like so nowadays. As I understood it wasn’t always so with Southern Records. Cheers
@@peteormond3565 No timeline has been issued. I just watched a very recent interview with John Wright (about his Dead Bob project) and in that they touched the subject and he said that even though the original master tapes are still with Southern Records (so I understood) and they can't get to them, they have to use CD as a master source for the reissues. From that interview I understood that it's still going to happen, eventually. Dad/Revenge 7" was reissued last year. So that's a start! Cheers
Excellent list, brother! The first punk show I attended in 1984 had Nomeansno opening for DOA. I was enchanted and followed them for years. Saw them a couple dozen times between 84 and 90, and a few times after. Such an amazing live band! You’re probably already aware of this, but the RU-vid channel The Show Must Go Wrong is very actively uploading tons of live Nomeansno material even as we speak.
Hello bro💪 Thank you so much for watching and commenting !! I wish I had been old enough and aware of the awesomeness that is NMN when you saw them. Still the best damm live band I have ever seen. I am indeed aware of that channel and it’s great. Thanks again ✊🍻 Cheers

Thank you for watching, commenting and sharing your ranking list!! It's a difficult task I know. Impossible even. Wow, I like your #1 pick! Not very often I see that LP on the top spot but like you said as well there are no bad NMN albums!! Cheers
Dr! Epic video dude, you’ve really outdone yourself. Your passion and knowledge of this group is inspiring! I have limited knowledge of the band but I’m gonna dig deeper cause of your video. Cheers!
Hey John! Many thanks for watching and conmenting. Appreciate it immensely! NMN is indeed underated and legendary. Mindboggling how they did not get more recognition or attention. Cheers!
Thanks for making this video. They are such an incredible band but I worry they will be forgotten since they no longer play anymore and never got the full recognition they deserved. I saw them for the first time in 1989 during the tour for Wrong. Amazing show. I do have 4 of their records on vinyl. I do hope Alternative Tentacles re-releases everything. I'm a little surprised they are returning to AT since they left the label in the early 2000s. But if they do I will definitely be buying more. Let's keep their legacy going!
Thank you for watching and commenting! I appreciate it a lot. I read this information about the reissues from NMN facebook page so it's safe to say it's legit info. Dates are unknown. I wish I had been aware of the band during Andy Kerr era and seen them live then but I love Tom Holliston era as much too :) Luckily I have seen them live! By the way, there will be a book about NMN sometime in 2022 if all goes well. Look up the FB group Nomeansno: We're So Wright, we're Wrong... You can keep yourself updated on the book project and connect with other fans :) IF you are in FB that is... Cheers and thanks again buddy
Thx for that! its great to see that one of the best bands ever are not forgotten!! after sooo many years of listening to NMN songs excessively, I still get goosebumps and tears in my eyes sometimes when I listen to them, its crazy when a band can do that!! I really do miss going to their shows!! :(
I've only seen them one time, it was in Seattle in 1990 and they blew me away. I first heard of them from a girl who worked at my favorite record store. Because of the music I had been buying she told me I would love NoMeansNo. So I bought Small Parts Isolated and Destroyed and went back to my pad, put the CD in and was blown away so I listened to that over and over again. I think Wrong would have been my next CD purchase. Then I got Sex Mad and of course when 0 + 2 = 1 came out I bought it immediately. Theresa, give me that knife!
At least you saw them live and it’s fucking mind blowing! Great recommendation from that girl. You’re forever grateful I’m sure hahah. Once I got into NMN I had to get everything they had done. I am amazed that the band never got more recognition. I hope they reissue their back catalog soon, I need to get a couple of records that I don’t own. Thanks for watching and commenting! “We are living in the, in the dark ages…”
@@DrOktober you mentioned that once you heard them you got everything. I introduced my friend in Utah (I was from Seattle) to NoMeansNo and he played them for his bass player. The bass player became so obsessed with them that he formed a pseudo-religion based on the album Wrong. Crazy man!
Dude, I'm so glad you picked Wrong for #1. I think I heard this record for the first time in 92...perhaps 93? I was so completely flabbergasted...shocked...confused...in love with it.... It really redefined punk for me. To this day it's one of the most important albums in my collection. I remember when it was out of print and one had to find a used cd on ebay just to hear it. Absolutely phenomenal record.
My first nmn record I heard too! And was around the same time too haha. Simply amazing. Huge influence on my bass and drum playing. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers
I'm so glad I randomly stumbled onto this video, people need to be talking about nomeansno all of the time, it's honestly hard for me to think of much else to talk about
I’ve watched and rewatched this vid several times. I just love NMN and I love your enthusiasm for the band. So good. My list might be a bit different in order. But similar my friend.
You have no idea how great it is to read a comment like yours. Thank you so much. We NMN fans are a rare breed but we all are cool and nice people, I have noticed. I am sure if I would redo this video today, the list would be slightly different. That’s why it’s a bit silly to do videos like these cause they change always hahah. Thanks again brother.
Oh yeah I am getting my Dad / Revenge 7” today as a matter of fact. Cheers EDIt: I read quickly discography, not biography haha! Been waiting for that book too.
10 - Mama 9 - One 8 - Dance of the Headless Bourgeoisie 7 - All Roads Lead to Ausfahrt 6 - Why Do They Call Me Mr. Happy? 5 - The Worldhood of the World (As Such) 4 - Sex Mad / You Kill Me 3 - Small Parts Isolated And Destroyed / The Day Everything Became Nothing (I included the versions of this and Sex Mad that include the respective EPs) 2 - 0 + 2 = 1 1 - Wrong It's crazy how different everyone's lists are. NMN had such a variety of sounds and approach to songwriting itself. The fast ones, the long ones, the weird ones, the funky ones, etc etc. People obviously gravitate towards different aspects of the band. Very cool.
Hello there and thanks so much for watching and commenting, and sharing your list! I had hoped for this type of engagement from fellow NMN fans in the comments section. This band must be one of the hardest bands to categorize. I agree with you 100% about their musicality and the difference of each album. One big reason they never released a stinker! Be strong be wrong💪 cheers and have a great day
Thanks for this! Somehow I never heard much No Means No over the years - I loved everything you played! Now it's time for me to add NMN to my collection. CHEERS!
My pleasure, Michael :) Yes! Do yourself a favor and start buying those NMN albums. I read that Alternative Tentacles will soon reissue their older catalog again so keep an eye on those. I know I will :) I am especially hoping to get the debut Mama LP on vinyl finally. Always happy to see you tuning in, man. See ya on Friday, latest :) Maybe I drop by on your stream on Thursday if you're having one? Cheers bro
No Means No, I have never heard this group, obviously big in Canada and Finland. Love the song with Jello, he voice was perfect for that. Loved all the needle drops, outstanding. Loved this group and I will be seeing if I can find some of their records. Well done. Steve
Thank you Steve for watching! Appreciate it greatly. NMN is a helluva band that's a fact :) They also had another band called The Hanson Brothers (no, not THAT Hanson Brothers...hahaha) and that was their homage to Ramones. Covered some Ramones songs and made their own Ramones-style punk rock songs. Very good records as well! NMN is also very big in Germany. Many tours there and hence why the title All Roads Lead To Ausfahrt (Exit) for their final album. Cheers - Mika
Hi Mika awesome video man I just recently found this band and I stumbled across wrong when listening to Lard. Great you showed your list, gives me something to dig with. Hope your week's been good 👍
Hi Stevie my mate! Week has been good. Hope yours too. Had Monday and Tuesday off and soon it's weekend again! Thanks for watching and I am glad you found NMN. Hope this video inspires you to check their stuff further. Cheers
Hey Kenny! Just what I hoped my video would do. Get people into checking Nomeansno. I have a feeling you would like them. Good records to start with; Wrong, The Worldhood of the world (As such) and the Live + Cuddly - live LP. Cheers bro
Thanks! My favorite band ever! Not much to disagree with here. My top 10 list has probably changed throughout the years and I wouldn’t want to have to put any of them at the bottom of the list!
Thanks for watching and commenting!🤝 It was a bloody tough task to put them in order...for sure for me too the list has changed over the years and will keep changing. 10 years ago i would have most likely put One in #10 spot but look how it has climbed up the list😀 their records are like good wine. Just getting better as the years go by. Cheers bud🍻
Well done video man! I followed No Means No a bit in the 90s. I have only one record by them an EP. Cool minimalist band. Heavy on the bass. Cheers from 🇨🇦! We salut you :)
@@DrOktober nope. It's the Power of Positive Thinking 12" with their cover of Jimi's Manic Depression on the flip side. I also have their Oh Canaduh 7" which I bought on the street in Brooklyn one summer from a yard sale.
Yes the book NOMEANSNO From Obscurity to Oblivion is a must have. The Live and Cuddly photo according to John was a family photo from a wedding...the drummer was the drummer for the wedding band.
@@noellegillies2874 Yessirree! I got the book too but haven’t read it yet. I started but I am a horrible reader. Need to get back into reading mode soon. Thanks for watching and commenting! Cheers
Book is amazing, lots of cool pics, local info about Victoria (I grew up close by) and tons of insight into the band plus all the touring they did (esp. Europe)
One great album to mention was Hanson Bros. Released same year as Jello w/ Nomeansno. Great songs like Duke it out, Road Pizza 🍕, Bad and the Best song Total Goombah! Thanks for a great review, eh?
Oh yeah Hanson Brothers rules too! That’s the only album I own on vinyl. But I kept this video strictly on NMN discography. I am planning to make a new video where I show all my Wright bros related records. Singles and EPs included. Thanks for watching and commenting! Cheers and happy holidays
Hahaha I hear ya buddy. It would have made actually a funny video if I had put all of them in first postition! Come to think of it, they do all deserver #1 spot!! It was a tough task. I thank you for watching, appreciate it greatly. Cheers
When Wall Of Voodoo played shows the drummer was front and center but facing the side of the stage. You could see everything he was doing. I’ll check out Nomesnsno.
I think more bands should do so (and I am sure many do just not aware of them). Watching John Wright play drums and sing often at the sametime was a treat to see. I am curious to hear what you think of Nomeansno. Thanks for watching, Richie! Cheers
Saw them live in 1988 and 1990 and no other band came close to how tight and powerful they were. Love the records, but live they were on a whole other level of greatness
That’s awesome! I saw NMN play an encore of about 20-30 minutes long in Finland entirely of Ramones songs and John sang while playing the drums so that’s the closest to seeing the Hanson Brothers haha! Thanks for watching. Cheers
That photo of a drummer on the back of the Live + Cuddly LP is actually Duncan Redmonds of Snuff, not John Wright. They have a strange sense of humour.
Thanks for clarifying! I always thought that it does not really look like John but maybe it was just one of those odd photo moments where the person looks just weird as hell hahaha! There was a time when I thought that it was Andy Kerr too! Thanks for watching. Cheers
NoMeansNo… I saw them often but the most powerful song I ever saw live was Red Devil played with two drums and one bass… unbelievable. Thanks for the vid. Still my favourite band after 30 years.
Cool!! I never saw NmN with the two drummer setup but I did see Fugazi play with two drummers in Finland once. Was very cool. Red Devil is such a fantastic tune. I know I put Mama at the bottom of this list but that album rules. It’s stupid and a difficult task to rank their studio albums, but also fun hahha. Nowadays the list would be a tad different. Maybe in 2024 an updated video? Thanks for watching and commenting! Cheers and happy holidays
NMN are/were one of the greatest bands ever. Saw them live many, many times in the Tom era (90s/00s). I got into them in the early 90s, and it is those 90s albums which are my favourite. My top 5 would be: 1. Mr Happy 2. 0+2=1 3. Gross Misconduct (yes, a Hanson Bros record, but it's a fucking masterpiece) 4. Wrong 5. Worldhood I never warmed up to the early stuff too much. Live they were great songs, but studio they just lacked a bit for me. One is a great album, and those songs really killed live, but I don't listen to it much anymore.
Hey there! Thanks for watching and commenting💪 I too saw NMN in the Tom era only. Those were the best live shows ever. Thanks also for sharing your top 5! Gross Misconduct IS a masterpiece agree 100%. I love Sudden Death and My Game almost as much! Worldhood is also one of those albums I keep revisiting on regular basis. Andy Kerr era is still the top for me. These lists surely keep changing over time hahah! Cheers!
Kiitos from Victoria, BC. Great video! Could you translate the Radio Finland part that is at the beginning of Live and Cuddly. They were playing with CMX in Tampere? Keep up the videos!
Thank you very much :) Sure thing! Translation goes something like this: "Pre-order tickets; 25 (Finnish marks back then and then they shout the names of the places where you could buy tickets to the show)... Tickets at the venue 30 marks! CMX! Radiopuhelimet! (another Finnish great band, name translates roughly into Radiotelephones)... Nomeansno! (I can't really make sense of the next two words)...Fusion Jazz....! Grannies...! On Wednesday, 30th of May. Tullikamari! (the venue which translates into Customs House)". Oh man, that doesn't make much sense but then again the add is nuts :) Thank you for watching! Cheers
i first heard this band in 1987 on cbc radio where they did a little spotlight on them with interviews. saw them 3 times and once as the hanson bros, awesome live band
Thanks for watching, smelly poo 😂😂 fantastic name by the way! NMN is not talked about enough in the Vinyl Community, in my humble opinion, and I just wanted to try to spread the coolness and awesomeness of the band. Cheers to you🍻
My ranking (although I might be WRONG, it could be my cat's ranking): 10. Mama 09. All Roads Lead To Ausfahrt 08. One 07. The Worldhood Of The World (As Such) 06. Dance Of The Headless Bourgeoisie 05. Sex Mad 04. Small Parts Isolated And Destroyed 03. Why Do They Call Me Mr Happy? 02. 0+2=1 01. Wrong I also met NMN with "Wrong", on a cassette given to me by a friend in 1990. I could not believe my ears. became a huge fan since then, seen them 7 times, ps let's rank in another video the best songs!
Thanks for watching, commenting and of course for sharing your ranking. Always interests me to see how others would rank them. There's already a podcast and a facebook group called 'NoMeansNo Thing' where they go about deciding the best NMN song in an interesting way. You should check it out, it's fun! Cheers - Mika
Well done. Mine is a bit different, but hey.... 10.) Mama 9.) Ausfahrt 8.) One 7.) Dance 6.) Sex Mad 5.) Mr. Happy 4.) Worldhood 3.) Small Parts 2.) 0+2=1 1.) Wrong
Thank you David! I appreciate you watching and commenting. Thanks also for sharing your ranking :) Always curious to see how others would rank them. Of course, that is a difficult task to begin with but hey... :) Just for the fun eh? Some days the list might be a bit different I am sure. Cheers and have a great weekend - Mika
This is a hard one, so many great albums, but here's my attempt at ranking them. Please note that the CD version of Small Parts would probably rank higher since it includes The Day Everything Became Nothing EP..."Forget Your Life" is my favourite song of theirs. 10. Mama 09. All Roads Lead To Ausfahrt 08. Why Do They Call Me Mr Happy? 07. One 06. Dance Of The Headless Bourgeoisie 05. Sex Mad 04. Small Parts Isolated And Destroyed 03. The Worldhood Of The World (As Such) 02. 0+2=1 01. Wrong
Nice. Thanks for sharing your list! Indeed it’s a tough task. That is true too that the EP The Day... combined with Small Parts... makes one helluva combo! Very fitting. Forget your life, oh man. That is a great song. I will have to make one day my NMN collection video with all EPs and singles included. Plus some Hanson Brothers🍻
Thank you for that video. I love NMN. I enjoyed them 2 times live, one time with DOA. Unfortunatelly the 3. time was cancelled because some assholes of my country folk stole a van with the band's equipment.
Thank you! Glad people still are finding this video. I have this recollection of reading somewhere about that incident with a stolen van. Where did this happen? Total jerks those who did that. Thanks for watching and commenting!! Cheers and Happy New Year
Unbeleivably I don’t own any records by NomeansNo...but just listened to ‘Wrong’ and sounds great....then I looked on Discogs..woah! I’ll track down a cheaper copy somewhere! I think they formed another band that did Ramones covers? (Sorry if you mentioned that in your intro, I forwarded straight to the countdown, I’m a busy man tonight) Great video man!
Hahah no worries Harris! Actually, Alternative Tentacles are supposed to reissue their back catalogue, I guess later this year so keep an eye on that! Indeed, the other band was called The Hanson Brothers. Pure Ramones punk pop rock with songs about hockey, girls and beer! Great stuff that one too. As always, thanks for watching mate. Cheers!
Mika, great video! Had to wait until I really had the time to watch and enjoy… You know I only ever owned one album, Dance of the Headless Bourgeoisie on CD in. Not sure I ever really listened to it because by the end of 1998 ALL my CDs were stolen. Then I simply never went back to it and actually took a decade off of punk completely. I always say that I love punk rock, but admit one of the worst part of punk rock are the fans… a lot of punk fans have a very fine, narrow line between what “is punk” and what “isn’t punk.” To me its more about the attitude and approach than any music theory or structure. But what do I know…. I'm gonna go and stream some NOMEANSNO, see where that puts me, I am feeling inspired. Thanks Dr.!
Thanks, Ben for watching! Really appreciate it. Yeah I know this video was a bit long but couldn't make it any shorter. The unedited video was 72 mins long....! So I left out lot of chit chat plus I went through my entire NMN collection but thought that it was not needed in this. That will be another video another day :) I agree with you 100% on what is really punk. Some punks are very narrow minded. Stream some of the greatest band ever and have a great evening buddy! Cheers
NMN on the Wrong tour is one of my Top 3 shows of all time! All the albums with Andy are at the top of my ranking. And Worldhood is my fave post-Andy album.
I wish I had seen NMN on the Wrong tour! Andy era NMN is thee best for sure. But the list changes over the years for me. Worldhood is fantastic but I find the production to be a bit too ’clean’. 🤷🏻♂️ They are all frigging great records. Cheers and thanks for watching🍻
Great band, cool video, good list. I would rank mr happy a bit higher but that’s just me. Still need to track down a couple of these, but I’ve got a handful of them...
Thanks for watching! Yea this type of lists are strictly subjective and this was just my take. Many however do seem to think that Wrong is their masterpiece. And I obviously agree with that :) Mr. Happy has been climbing up in my list over the years, at first it didn't do much for me, but once I heard the CD version of it with those 3 additional songs it made the album better for me. Fantastic record indeed. Again, thanks for tuning in. Be Strong Be Wrong ✊
I usually am not a fan of live recordings but live and cuddly is an awesome album. You get a taste of the fun people that they are and the music is really good with good selection of songs
I gotta say, everyone who has WRONG as their #1 is WRONG... a great album, to be sure, but they outdid it time after time: 0+2=1, MR. HAPPY & WORLDHOOD might even be their peak years... DANCE was great, but off a bit sonically; nice to see ONE get some love here, it's usually underrated (not as much as AUSFAHRT, though). That's what's great about them, you can revisit all their albums and they take turns being your favorite.
Hahaha! Fair enough ;) Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment. Really appreciate it. It took me couple of years to really get into ONE, but then it hit me hard, man. Such a good record. Ausfahrt too! "That's what's great about them, you can revisit all their albums and they take turns being your favorite." - Very well said! Thanks again. Cheers
Great to see a fellow NMN fan rate the great albums of this band. Not an easy task! My ranking would (probably) be: 10 - Mama 9 - Sex Mad 8 - One 7 - All Roads Lead To Ausfahrt 6 - 0 + 2 = 1 5 - Dance Of The Headless Bourgeoisie 4 - Why Do They Call Me Mr Happy? 3 - Small Parts Isolated And Destroyed 2 - The Worldhood Of The World (As Such) 1- (Two Wright make a ) Wrong Like another commenter said, if "Small Parts... " included the EP "The Day Everything Became Nothing" I would move it one spot up to # 2. "Forget Your Life" is also one of my favorites and obviously my nick is from that very EP as well. 🙂
Hello fellow NMN fan with an awesome channel name 😀Thank you very much for watching the video and sharing your list. It's always interesting to see how others rank the albums. It's a difficult task and tends to change over the years. Your list is great though. Happy New Year to you and cheers! - Mika
Thank you for the nice comment and sharing your list. I have to say that my ranking is now a little different. Ausfahrt is now higher on my list. If I recall well it wasn’t ranked at the top here. I agree also that every song is great on it. Have you listened to Dead Bob yet?
@@DrOktober Yeah Dead Bob and the release of their new book is what made me start listening to them like crazy again! All I've been listening to has been NMN for the past couple of weeks haha. Do you have the new book yet?! It's worth checking out!
@@davedehghani5536 Nice! Been going through their catalog as well. I got the book for my birthday from my wife. I also managed to snag the Dead Bob vinyl.
On Mr happy album the stand out track is slowly melting….one of their best songs of all time. It really takes you on a ride. Must only be on the cd I guess.
It’s only on the cd and tape releases. The vinyl release omits also I Need You and Lullaby, if I recall well. They oughta reissue this album on double vinyl with all the songs.
You know it's really hard for me to say that these guys just work the one of the greatest bands in the entire world I mean a three-piece with so much power and sound and you have to have like the ultimate in beefy hands to finish some of those riffs definitely know arthritis
The American AT release of Sex Mad didn't have No Fucking or Hunt The She Beast. There was Love Thang instead, and Revenge was the final track. The insert has the Dad 7" artwork on one side with "Dear Old Dad" across the top instead, and the lyric side looks like the same artwork as yours but doesn't have No Fucking, which looks like it was just squeezed in after with not much effort made to match the style. FYI, Mama was recorded in a studio, it was their first untitled release, later dubbed "Betrayal Fear Anger Hatred", that was recorded at home.
Oh man! Thanks for reminding me. A friend of mine had the CD of Sex Mad / You Kill Me and my memory tells me that it had Love Thang on it. Shit, I had completely forgotten that song!! Now I gotta hunt the US pressing beast. And thanks for the info about Mama. I remembered that it was too recorded with a 4-track. Cheers and thanks for watching! Happy New Year🍻
Went and listened to slowly melting for the 2k time and you are right……it’s very Prog Rock. Never really thought about it. But it is a solid Prog rock song totally. And yes it is still one of their best and most mature tracks.
To also answer to your earlier comment, it is one of my favorite songs from NMN as well. Lifelike is up there too. What are your thoughts on the Dead Bob album?
Thanks you for posting this video. My own personal favourite album by NMN is actually Live and Cuddly. I realise you left it out as you are reviewing studio albums. I saw the (roughly) Live and Cuddly set live myself (not the actual recorded performance), in Newcastle, UK. When Andy Kerr was still in the group. I'm in a band myself, but came away knowing that i would never be, or see, as good a live band as NMN ever again. I'm a guitarist. All guitarist's know they will never be as good a Hendrix, nor will there ever be another Hendrix. NMN was my Hendrix for a Live Band. There will never be a better live band for me. I saw them in my favourite line-up too. I was lucky.
Thank you for watching! Much appreciated. Live and Cuddly rips. Most of the songs on it are better versions than the ones on the albums. That's awesome you got to see them in their prime. NMN was and is hands down the best live band I've ever witnessed on stage. I have this recollection that I say in the video I saw them eight times live, but in actuality I saw them six times. I will make soon a video where I show my entire NMN/Hanson Brothers collection. I have few pieces missing though. Cheers and have a great weekend! Be Strong Be Wrong
@@DrOktober good to know someone else thinks they are the best live band they ever saw. I saw Rage Against The Machine at Glastonbury, a few years later. They were awesome, as everyone knows. But I didn't get that pure primal energy inside me that I felt when i saw NMN, who were just on a totally different level for me personally. I'm not knocking RATM, as it is down to how it affects a person individually of course. For some people, RATM will release that magic within them. That's the beauty of music. Great channel by the way. It's honest. And real. And seemingly un-egotistical. I like that
Thanks again man! I have never been into RATM to be honest, not that its bad music in my opinion, they just don’t ’do it to’ me. Great musicians for sure. Have a good week. Cheers
@@DrOktober I agree. RATM were on at Glastonbury so I watched them out of interest, and it was impressive live. But no. They are not on my listening list. They are very good though If I were to recommend a band to you. Try Killing Joke. Their early music is very impressive and ahead of its time. Their mid 80's music was a bit pop for me. Still ok though But then they returned to grittier form in the 90's and have been awesome ever since Their initial 90's album is astonishing Extremities, Dirt and Various Repressed Emotions
Hey Dr Mike! Man I have been deep diving your vids all day You have some hella killer records! I need to check out ALL and NoMeansNo but fuck all if NMN records are damn expensive Haha! And I’m a cheap bastard! Maybe I’ll get lucky Keep rocking Bro I’m a huge fan of your channel and you’re hilarious on Low Noize Jason Skillz live streams Peace ☮️✌️👽🤘☮️
Thanks Cosmic Brian! Appreciate it greatly. Your channel is awesome bro!! Love the Prof. Hubert J Farnsworth sound bites you sneak in here and there in your vids :) Alternative Tentacles should reissue this year the back catalogue of NMN so you will not have to spend a lot if you want to grab one. Keep an eye on their website! Cheers brother and thanks again for all your kind words
I love and adore Nomeansno, but I'd have to politely disagree with the 'best band to come out of Canada', to me that falls to Voivod, so second favourite here. :) Even though it's not a studio album, my actual fave is Live and Cuddly, first album I bought of their's after hearing their John Peel session, top studio album would be 'Dance of the Headless Bourgeoisie'. Only seen them once back in 91 but I'll never forget it, wonderful memories. Thanks for the fun video. :)
Thank you for watching and commenting! It’s great to see people are still finding the video after couple of years since I made it. There are plenty of fantastic bands from Canada. Voivod (like you mentioned), Teenage Head, The Viletones, DOA, list goes on. NMN is just the obvious pick for me since it’s my second favorite band after Hüsker Dü :) Live+Cuddly is amazing live album. Some of the songs on it are better versions than on the albums. I don’t remember anymore what I said on the video but I have seen them 6 times live. Three times in Finland (where I am from) and three times in Hungary. I have the feeling I said 8 times on the video but hey, I was tipsy doing it hahah. Thanks again for tuning in and for the nice comment! Be strong be wrong Cheers
Great video. I think like 10 years ago I found "Wrong" in a list of best hardcore albums and I like it (in spite I thought it was really weird). For some reason never like the name of the band and that plus the weird stuff drove me away from them. This band is a must thing to do for me.
@@melvinfz0301 Thank you! Nomeansno was always embraced by the hardcore and punk audiences, despite not being either genre specifically, which is cool. I think the band name has a nice ring and flow to it. From what you are saying I take it that you have now gotten deep into NMN.
@@DrOktober Thanks to your video I've been listening to Sex Mad & Isolated Parts.. Next week I'm going to check their 90s albums. I think I have my ears more used to weird stuff.
My list is : 1 Wrong 2 0 + 2 =1 3 Mr Happy 4 Small Parts 5 Worldhood of the world' Wrong is undisputed so good. 0 + 2 =1 was my introduction. Which is why I guess so high. The other albums in my 5 I guess are in there cos in the 90s I listened to so much, when they came out. The others I own but not listened to as much. Some more than others. One is great. The Jello album is awesome
Thanks for sharing your list, Mick! It’s a bit of a ridiculous task to do a video like this but all in good fun. In time our favorites change which is normal. NMN is/was such a fantastic band, none of their albums are bad in any way. First I didn’t like One much. But over the years it has been climbing my list. Not an easy album at all to get into. Same I could say about Mr Happy. Thank you for watching and commenting. Much appreciated! Cheers
@@DrOktober Yes, One took a while to grow on me but some great songs on there. Hello/Goodbye is great. Great video. Miss the band, can't believe they've finished. One of those you thought would go on forever
@@micklee5152 Hello/Goodbye and The Graveyard Shift are my two favorites. Perhaps the most ‘easy listening’ tunes on it haha. A Little Too High is also awesome. Thanks again for the nice comments man!
@@DrOktober Speaking of Canadian bands. Don't know if you know Phleg Camp? Their album 'Y'ared fair scratch' is great. Fans of Rob's bass playing would like this
Hey Dr Oktober are you also a fan of the Victims Family? Yes you are. Meanwhile if you like a punk sound with a progressive drive have you heard the old British band called Cardiacs? Maybe start with a later album called Sing to God...
Sorry for the late response. Victim’s Family? Oh yeah. Just don’t own anything from them in physical format. It’s been awhile also since I listened to them. I don’t know Cardiacs so will take note of the recommendation. Many thanks for watching and commenting 🙏 cheers!!
Loud af! I don’t recall what I said in the video but the loudest concert I ever was at was Melt Banana. Dinosaur Jr is the close second. Motorhead I never had the chance to see live, unfortunately. Thanks for watching and commenting! Cheers
Great vid, cheers! When putting it all in order is all I have to do: 10. Mama 09. Worldhood of the world 08. One 07. All roads lead to 06. Small parts isolated 05. Sex Mad 04. Dance of the Headless 03. Mr Happy 02. 0+2=1 and...... 01 Wrong - what else?
@@branchleader73 Thank you Sir for watching and sharing your ranking too :) I think I may be in the minority by not putting 0+2=1 higher on my list. But again, like you said, there is no such thing as a bad NMN album. I miss seeing that band live. Glad that I saw them 8 times! PS. I was waiting for someone to use that song title in a joke somehow ;) Cheers to you!
@@DrOktober You are most welcome! I'm sure I got more jokes somewhere.... Only saw them once on their last tour of the UK 2000 and something, what year was that?! :O
@@DrOktober I agree! I echoed your sentiment about "I've been listening to this one quite a bit. Just can't stop." with You Kill Me. Although Brother Rat/What Slayde Says is a perfect one-two punch!
So great, thank you for this! You might be interested in our similar project, albeit a bit more drawn out: NoMeansNo Thing Podcast (on all the pod places) where we are pitting all the songs against each other in a bracket format.
Thank you Jordan! Can you send me a link to my email or something? I am not entirely sure I know what you mean...🤷 Contact me from my RU-vid ABOUT page, please! Cheers
From the best to the less good: 01. The Worldhood Of The World (As Such) 02. All Roads Lead To Ausfahrt 03. Dance Of The Headless Bourgeoisie 04. Wrong 05. One 06. Why Do They Call Me Mr Happy? 07. 0+2=1 08. Sex Mad 09. Small Parts Isolated And Destroyed 10. Mama
Thanks man for all the cool and nice comments! It’s nice to see that this video still gets views and comments after nearly two years. If I were to do the video today, it would most likely have a slightly different order. That’s how it goes.
@@DrOktober Vancouver Island is so so nice.. I wish I could send you pictures.. look up Tofino and watch some vids on the area it’s extremely beautiful
@@njandrews4105 Forgot to say that when I lived still in Finland, I knew a guy who was from Victoria. He moved to Finland from Canada and decided to stay. There are lot of similarities with the two countries. He had never heard of NMN but I guess Victoria is not that small a place hahah.
That’d be swell! Haha. We will be getting something just as good though, soon I hope. Have you heard about Dead Bob? John Wright’s solo project. Look it up on Bandcamp if you haven’t yet! You won’t be disappointed.
Nomeansno not punk? Who said that? I feel that they are much more than that, but their attitude and the heaviness of their music definitely qualify as punk. I kind of knew that Wrong would in your #1 spot. It's the first thing I head from them and really a perfect album...
Oh they are definitely so much more than punk. And I agree 110% with you on their attitude and approach to music. Thanks for watching and commenting. Have a great day!
Hunt the She Beast lyrics might not have been included because the Can/UK and US releases had slightly different songs. Everything from both versions was on the CD release but I guess they didn't do separate lyrics sheets for the different LP releases.
WRONG is definitely punk......it doesn't sound 89 to me but almost late 90's. I'm not an expert. Big fan of DeVo especially early DeVo, live Smart Patrol/ Mr. DNA the raw energy. I've never seen anything like NMN as far as absolute crazy energy. Wow. Thanks Canada. Scaterd Few ' Sin Disease ' is one of my favorite punk records. Forgive me.
@@DrOktober I thanked Canada. I thank you for a very entertaining review. So cool. The first time I heard ( sorry to say it wasn't that long ago ) it was ' It's catching up ' and the next song ' The tower ' I was shaking my head in disbelief. NMN you kill me.
And why the fuck is this: Dance of the Headless Bourgeoisie song just does not get nearly enough credit for its humor and the funny ass way the rhythm or that song is structured, and the way John sets up some of those drum fills in parts to sound like a series of bombs (do people not fucking notice that?! 😆) and the lyrics. Dark and yet funny AF.
Damn I had totally missed your comments. Thanks a lot for taking the time to watch and comment. Dance... is a great song for sure. I too have always listened to the percussions on it as they are bombs hahah! Funny and dark shit
Only one disagreement really and that is I think 0+2 = 1 deserves to be higher. The weight of the lyrics alone and then the off the wall structure (often referred to as math rock as you say more recently) at its time was much more innovative than it seems now in retrospect. Which means really that I have to choose an album to sacrifice its place for, and somewhat regrettably I’d have to switch it with Small Parts. I admit that’s only because I’m weighting the innovation of song structure stronger that OP, so being that Small Parts is pretty straight forward post hardcore, lots of just straight forward structures and chords, great as they are, sinks somewhat in comparison in my mind. But I’m admittedly prejudiced as I said.
Excellent comment. I have to say that my current NMN album ranking list is slightly different than what it was 3 years ago when I made the video. 0+2=1 was my second NMN album I heard and somehow the complexity of it threw me off a bit. It took me a few years to get really into that record. Funny how these things go sometimes.
@@DrOktober I proper enjoyed your countdown and musings about 'The Best Band From Canada'. There's a recent podcast somewhere find it!! Dare you to do a top 119 of Motörhead live albums....
@@DrOktober as there is a thousand of them so I whittled it down to less than 119 and a half NMN covered Motörhead about a decade ago and there's neverever any recording Bah
@@stue9391 Wow! Didn’t know they covered Motörhead. Do you know which song? Yea there must be at least a trillion Motörhead live albums. If you include the bootlegs, hah!
