Leah Morris no professional actors don't do that. yeah it will work, but after some time that memory will start fading. you will become more and more numb to that memory. after some time, you can't cry everytime because of that memory, and might not even succeed to cry with many other tricks. it can cause many problems with your real feelings too, so it's really dangerous. i wouldn't recommend..

not at all. it could be this way, using stanislavski emotional memory. but it’s not about feeling. if u are feeling u are not acting. imagine being and actor and using this technique everyday at work. this idea that artists need to be sad to do good art it's a harmful myth

People think acting is faking, when in fact acting is about truth, it's about being real. You don't have to go all Method to achieve that though... it's not necessarily about pulling from your own experiences, it's more about being aware of your 'emotional strings' as they're your instrument, and let yourself connect with whatever your character is going through so you can 'play the right chord'.

I am an actor and this is often how actors( at least what iv'e been taught) learn to connect to a character. You put in your senses and relate to your character as much as possible. With this you get the result of the best character you can be!

Being acting and being unhealthy aren't mutually exclusive.

Stanislavski's techniques are based on true emotions, which can be a really helpful thing for some scenes and some people, but the truth is that it isn't the only acting method and it is actually pretty dangerous cause a lot of the time people just push their own boundaries to a level they can't take and suffer some mental breakdowns (it was actually pretty dangerous doing it with people who aren't actors). Other thing about this kind of techniques it's that one day you will no longer be able to cry about the same sad memory or situation that you have been crying for the last 30 shows. You can have the same results with other techniques, you don't have to take out your inner demons to understand and incarnate a character. I had been teach that it is more about generating energy with physical work and breathing techniques, and about establish to your character an objective to achieve, different types of conflict (with the world, with other characters, with themselves) and how they react to them. But hey, each actor has it's own method.

This is how people get on drugs or sleeping pills because the weight of playing this person and reinacting/thinking of your not so great past and then they can’t get out of that hole. there are other things that trigger your tears. Your body produces chemicals to react to certain scenarios. Stuff like types of breathing and etc. TRUST ME THERE IS ANOTHER WAY
