Mirrors edge was ground breaking at the time of release but it hasnt aged quite as well since it was so limited. It did pave the way for a lot of what we see in both fps(first person)and some 3rd person games in terms of movement possibilities and adding "weight"/momentum to actions.
It's a good demonstration that art direction is more important than sheer graphical power. Despite being set in a pseudo-realistic world, the harsh white city with only bits of color here and there really is eye catching. It was to the game's advantage, not having too many objects in a scene, but the relatively empty areas also did a lot for the unsettlingly clean dystopian feel that they were going for. Between that and the level structure, I'm guessing the original will age much better than the sequel
EA has always been pretty shit, but around 2008/2009 they started getting more shitty than usual. IIRC Mirror's Edge came out right after Spore, which made people upset because of the DRM. They were also taking content out of The Sims 3 and releasing it later as DLC. Battlefield 2 didn't give full access to maps when playing with bots, nor did it allow mods. This really hurt Mirror's Edge's marketability. I know I didn't buy or play it (because I was seething over Westwood Studios getting axed), but I think these factors are why the game never got a sequel.
@@nekrataali Never got a sequel? In 2016 Mirror's Edge Catalyst came out, a sequel to the first. Both games did underperform despite generally positive reviews unfortunately. I really like them both, though they are definitely different.
I still have this game downloaded but tbh I also have the first dying light and it has parkour and zombies so I never end up playing it but sometimes when I wanna see how fast I can beat a level I’ll get on
Oh man, hearing the music from Mirror's Edge again after so many years really hit me in the nostalgia gland! It was so unique for it's time and nothing else, including Assassin's Creed IMO, has really captured that parkour feeling.
Same. Originally I thought she was reacting to the sequel. But, as soon as I saw Faith's foot strike the ground for the EA logo, all the memories came rushing back.
As it was requested before and now - I highly recommend a series of trailers of MGS V:Phantom Pain (E3 2015 (5 min) and RED BAND (9 min) Great trailers that give enough of everything, yet surely will still puzzle you.
For the mirrors edge one you should watch the intro cinematic to get the story, this was purely for gameplay because back when this game came out, nothing like this was ever in a game, it was kinda ground breaking in that sense now alot of games include Parcour elements onto their gameplay, that would not exist without mirrors edge. It seem like that list of. Yours has alot of gaming milestones, which is cool but to. A non gamer you don't really get that impact without the background
Regarding the Metro game, and considering current global events, please take this as your reminder that nuclear weapons are not "apocalypse machines." Don't get me wrong, they are warcrime machines, but even using all of the 120,000 nuclear weapons ever made over the last 80 years, they could not cause an Impact Winter or wipe out humanity.
The best part of Returnal is half way through when she finds a way off the planet, goes back home, lives the rest of her life and dies of old age....and then wakes back up on the planet because she didn't actually escape the cause of the cycle.
I too would like a game where you just meet Star Trek aliens and get food from the replicator. On a potentially related topic, there is a new Star Trek game coming out where you meet aliens and get food from the replicator.
Mirror’s edge was groundbreaking with it’s parkour aspects in first person view back in the days. The fluidity of the movements, the way perception would change once you caught wind, the ability to traverse across massive buildings. All of that mixed with the white and clean, yet dystopian buildings/world. And, finally, the story. This game paved the way for games to come.
Since you're not a gamer I highly recommend you read the books instead. I believe they're just as good especially since the author actually contributed to the development of the game adaptations
Definitely react to Legacy of Kain games. tbh you being a writer, I'm surprised your viewers haven't pushed harder for this yet. Definitely check it out. It is Considered one of the best games of all time and a pinnacle achievement in video game writing that propelled the writer, Amy Hennig as one of the most influential and renown writers in the industry. Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver Intro: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4DOKzTHaPfM.html and if you decide you want to go deeper into the lore, this guy does a good job: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Ysxs_oErmWo.html
Ratchet and Clank series are near and dear to my heart, glad to see a reaction to the newest game! It quickly became one of my personal favourites (A Crack In Time is still my favourite of the series) and I enjoyed it a lot! Sci-fi sillyness with friendship and found family as major themes, but it knows how and when to get serious! Glad to see you found it fun!
Deathloop and Returnal are part of the same game genre called "Roguelike" or "Roguelite". They are games where you die and start from the beginning with nothing, where you only progress by getting more skilled at the games mechanics.
I got the perfect videos for you to react to. 1) Def jam vendetta blazin finishers 2) Def jam fight for new York blazin finishers. The videos are long so you may want to make 2 separate videos reacting to them. Your jaw will drop either outtve shock or fear haha
Here are more trailers for you to check out: Minecraft: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nyzuCK_m7cc.html League of Legends: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jEKLjwdVSTQ.html
Hey Hannah! This has nothing to do with the video (love the video btw!!) but I was just wanting to ask a random question! Do you think that you, or anyone for that matter, can be a writer/author without reading books?
4:42 Mirrors Edge this is a game about parkour, in which we can try on the role of a runner who delivers parcels and messages in the world completely controlled by totalitarian corporations who hear and see everything - what ordinary citizens say, what they see and what they do. The only way to maintain anonymity and transmit what is forbidden is to forward it with the help of a runner. In the trailer of the game we see how she does it...) The name of the game seems to refer to an ideal future in which we see snow-white skyscrapers, i.e. imaginary well-being, behind which a totalitarian society with stifling laws and censorship hides
Mirrors Edge, the original is a very unique story that affected me deeply and I will probably never forget, because it resonated very closely with my life experiences about our world in terms of surveillance and police control. There's a compilation of all the Trailers from it that gives some insight ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xTuDRd4Qyks.html There's also some "Game Movies" which combine the story cinematic cutscenes with gameplay. It's quite long though, at 1 hour. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LkTL4PKpPCw.html
I absolutely love Returnal and its honestly great to have a badass protagonist who is an older woman. Not a demographic you see represented in games a lot!
You should totally watch people do no commentary full playthroughs. Maybe make it a series? It’s basically like watching a movie and I love watching you piece things together and react!
I highly recommend MIrrors Edge Catalyst. The E3 2013 Announcement Trailer, E3 2015 Announcement trailer, forgot about this one but its important. I Am Faith Story trailer, and Why We Run Launch trailer. The franchise is one of those hidden gems that became a cult classic. The game itself is first person parkour with some combat sprinkled in. Mirrors Edge Catalyst is the second game. Its a prequel but also kind of a reboot? I'm sure someone can correct me if im wrong. As for Tomb Raider the new generation trilogy is on of my favorite game trilogies.
I strongly recommend You watch a *Calisto Protocol* for aliens and *Mirror's Edge Catalyst - story trailer* for story :D And please, watch *The Quarry first 30 minutes of gameplay* and *The Quarry Trailer* this game is movie like and with some actors like Brenda Song, David Arquette, Ted Raimi, Lance Henriksen Rise of the tomb raider - is a prequel to shadow of the tomb raider. Worth checking out, and first game of the new lara croft genre is *Tomb Raider 2013* excellent game. Story trailer is so good.
all of them verzy good games, mirrors edge gave me also nostalgia vibes. for a game so focused on its one mechanic - parkour - it had a surprisingly good story, was not expecting that back in the day. Metro would be a great game entry for you since it is very story driven. the novels are also great.
Since you've uncovered returnal, there's an amazing video essayist that makes an incredible video essay on returnal and other games/books. His name is Jacob Geller. I highly recommend him as he goes deep into philosophies and themes on games/books. His video on returnal is called "Returnal is a Hell of Our Own Creation"
Also, if returnal is not really your style he has plenty others, like videos on how ordinary objects make a game feel real. If you want to know a ganers perspective while actually playing games, he's an excellent watch.
My suggested playlist to understand Final Fantasy VII a bit better ru-vid.com/group/PLDn51KjSzyGSyKgE3v6X_sKyFe7GAccch My suggested playlist for Mirrors Edge story/character overview and ends with more of Ratchet & Clank stuff you love ru-vid.com/group/PLDn51KjSzyGQPxm9vDmXu-KNTib0gQdCM
You should check out Crysis Remastered - Official Launch Trailer, Crysis 2 - Story Trailer, Crysis 3 - 'Previously in Crysis' Video, and for a lighter tone Crysis 3 -- "Suit Up" Launch Trailer (Extended Commercial)
in most universes/dimensions Ratchet(if Ratchet exists in that universe/dimension) is the last of his kind Percival Tachyon(the last of a warlike race known as the Cragmites) or whoever that specific universes equivalent is made sure of that Percival gave the Lombaxes a few days to evacuate to another universe/dimension where Lombaxes(Ratchets race) don't exist and he tracked down and killed any who werent able to evacuate or chose to stay behind only 2 chose to stay behind they were Kaiden who chose to stay behind with his infant son(the infant son in question was Ratchet) and Alistar Azzimuth(Ratchets uncle) Ratchets mother was killed before she had the chance to evacuate out of all of the Lombaxes who didn't evacuate only 2 are still alive Ratchet(because he was hidden away somewhere by his father) and Angela Cross(since female Lombaxes in our Ratchets universe don't have tails all she needed to do was hide her face and ears whenever she left the house) the reason Percival tried to wipe out the Lombaxes was because they banished his people to a hell dimension because they would rather not be exterminated and it was more humane than just killing them all when the Lombaxes were evacuating they were apparantly scattered across the multiverse but in at least 1 universe they managed to rebuild(it is unknown if it turned out okay in every universe/dimension or if that specific universe was the exception) 4:25 that female Lombax is Rivet who is a Ratchet from a universe where both male and female Lombaxes have tails(that was the main thing the fans were focusing on rather than the fact Dr. Nefarious is the emperor of everything in that universe) Rift Apart takes place 19 years after Ratchet first became a hero around 14-16 he is now in his 30s and has been retired for 8 years before Dr. Nefarious(his arch nemesis) came out of his 10 year retirement to go back to being Ratchet and Clanks nemesis and cause a multiverse-wide crisis in an attempt to finally best the duo for reasons only known to Nefarious(some believe it was because he missed fighting Ratchet and Clank some say it was because he wasn't invited to the parade on the 21st anniversary of Ratchet and Clank becoming heroes when captain Quark "rusty Pete" and Skidd were invited others say he was just bored)
I remember Mirror's Edge. When it first came out I was impressed with the immersive free running. Maybe not a good investment if you get car sickness. The "Dying Light" series has some similar first person perspective parkour, but includes zombie horror survival elements.
To go with the theme of games based on Russian books like Metro, you should do a reaction to the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series sometime. (S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 trailer: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SjDMwsbaSd8.html) They are loosely based on Andrei Tarkovsk’s film of the same name. The movie was an adaptation of the book Roadside Picnic by Arkady Strugatsky and Boris Strugatsky. The history of how the book predated, but became an allegory for Chernobyl is pretty interesting. Also, love and support to the dev team. They are based in Ukraine, so they’ve faced extraordinary challenges in their lives lately. 🇺🇦 ❤️
You kind of chose the wrong Mirror's Edge. That one was a 14-year-old experimental game. Try Mirror's Edge: Catalyst. You'll enjoy that trailer quite a lot in comparison
When you said a bunch of random thinks, that hurts!! Metro exodus aint random, it is one of my favorite game!! you would also love it (not the monsters though) cause the series is based on Dmitry Glukhovsky's novel series! You will get the feel of how novels are made into games, just like witcher series!
You know, if you want something a little more upbeat, I have a suggestion. While I realize you tend to watch video game trailers over actual gameplay, I recommend you looking up Press Start to Laugh's videos "What if you talked in Subnautica?" or "What if you talked in Journey to the Strange Planet?" It goes through parts of the games, but the creator of the video creates a unique and hilarious character to take the place of the normally silent protagonist. There are a lot of similar videos, but since these are only two parters and are finished, they would be good to start with if you're interested. I can't recommend this guy enough. Absolutely hysterical!
Maybe you could try reacting to Girlfriend Reviews. She makes hilarious reviews of games that her boyfriend plays with very limited knowledge about gaming. She has an outsider perspective looking that I think you might relate to.
The biggest draw to Mirror's Edge for me is the sorta minimalism of it. It's a first person game where guns are completely optional and mostly a hindrance, there's basically no UI, and the environments are mostly white with these big splashes of color. It's from 2008, but still such a beautiful game
5:16 That sensation is called simulation sickness. If you decide to play a game to celebrate 100k subs, I would advise you stay away from games with first-person perspective. I have it too, headaches from extended sessions can be brutal.
I had hoped it was the Mirror's Edge Catalyst you watched instead of the old game in 2008. Since you show the Catalyst picture in the thumbnail too. I really recommend watching Catalyst now, it has a lot more story.
What about 11bit studio series? Its a small studio but made bunch of pure gold games. Try frostpunk 1, this war of mine, and newly published game south of the circle!
When you say "Tomb Raider movie," do you mean the Angelina Jolie one, or the Alicia Vikander one? (Personally I've only seen the Jolie one, and that was a long time ago.)
I highly recommend Mirrors Edge Catalyst trailer! Its a soft reboot of the original ME with updated graphics and much more refined gameplay in many avenues. Both are great tho.
I'm probably in the minority but Shadow Of The Tomb Raider was my favourite of the recent trilogy of games.. Regarding your question about the Mirror's Edge trailer. That trailer specifically was more of a demonstration of what the technology they are using is capable of. It's why it had the comment in the beginning about all the visuals being in-game footage. This may seem funny to hear as a non-gamer, but the biggest thing to me about that game (to me at least) was that you could see the character's feet. Technically you could see a lot more than that, but looking down and seeing the main character's feet was one of many unique things about this game.
My favorite trailer of all time is Metro Exodus - Artyom's Nightmare Official Story Trailer - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Yt67BHd-oRA.html the trailer is so emotional but also so beautiful and is one heck of a ride.
I started playing videogames when I was 4 years old, so it's really interesting to watch reaction/thoughts on some of these trailers from a different perspective. Thank you!
Metro Exodus is good with russian voices on, other than that, the weapon modification is lacklustre, if you want a suppressor its exclusively on the shortest barrel, its arbitrary limitation in a singleplayer game, the endings a punch in the fucking teeth regardless of which one you get
I suggest the trailer of Squadron 42 (cinematic trailer) game is not out yet, but the trailer look like a lot of a movie trailer, with lot of real actor in it ( mark hamill, gary oldman, liam cunningham, gillian anderson etc...)
Rachet and clank is about 2 friends who save the galaxy in their games. Clank is the robot and rachet is a lombax. One of the big things in the trailer was the reveal of another Lombax since rachet was the last of his kind as far as he knew. Mirrors edge (the original not the reboot) is about Faith, a free runner in a city under corporate control. She has to save her sister who is framed for a murder. Returnal I still have no clue about other then the main character crashes on a strange planet and every time she dies, she ends up back in time to when she crashed. METRO is a series set after a nuclear war. One cool mechanic in the game is your bullets are also your currency so you gotta decide do you want more ammo to kill more things or do you want to save them to get better equipment. There's also radiation you need equipment to deal with
Mirror’s Edge is set in a future where all communication is monitored so there’s a bunch of black market couriers called Runners who carry messages and items people don’t want the authorities to know about. The protagonist is a runner named Faith Conners who was taken in by a runner clan after her parents were killed in a protest. One thing I liked about the game is how they really researched the body language of athletes, the way Faith moves, you can definitely tell she does this stuff for a living.
have you done Alan wake, Control and Quantum break? maybe do the alan wake 2 trailer reveal. all are made by the same devs, and their writing its on point.
If you want think that the Metro Exodus trailer is intense you should check out the other Metro game trailers. This one was at least full of hope, the other trailers don't have that.
So for context on mirrors edge you are faith the girl you saw at the end of the trailer and your what is known as a runner which is basically a courier for clients that want messages delivered without the government watching you use parkour throughout the game to traverse buildings and such
I felt the first Tomb Raider movie with Angelina Jolie was ok. I preferred the recent reboot. Ratchet And Clank was also all in game footage. It’s a lot of fun - like playing a Pixar movie. Thanks for the reaction! Hope you’re doing well.
