Explained simply and concisely, brilliant. I have a Ducky Shine 7 from years ago that had water spilt on it, now the backspace and '=" keys don't work. Thanks explaining how to fix it :)
When soldering, test that the iron is up to temp by quickly placing the solder on the tip. It should melt straight away. Then, place the soldered part tip of the tip to the circuit board track (the solder aids in heat transfer), & make sure it touches the wire or pin too. Quickly apply the solder to the circuit board track, & remove it as soon as the solder flows. You should then have a nice shiny solder joint. You can practice the technique by joining 2 pieces of wire together.
I have a very similar version of this which is an NPET brand, I have three of them in fact. I got so many because the entire board was $20 and has 1000Hz polling rate. although mine has the compact nav cluster which may be a better design since you get real arrow keys.
If the spacing is the same everywhere, you can make a holder for your multimeter. Just use some sort of woodpiece to drill two holes in that have the right distance and diameter to fit the pens of the multimeter. Then when testing you don't have to fiddle that much to test every connection.
thank you! i almost forgot about my first keyboard, the “j” stopped working so i looked and it seems like there isn’t enough solder? got a few things on sale, hopefully tomorrow reapplying some will fix it!
Hey thank you for posting this video!! I have a non-hotswappable keyboard and two switches/letters are not working well, I was just wondering how to replace them with a soldering kit; i have used one before but I was kind of worried, since it should be a precision job. Thank you for the visual guide. :)
nice, i just brought magegee MK1 keyboard non hot swappable last month and after seeing this video and im thinking this budget mech keyboard is worth for a long time by soldering with new switches, thanks :D
bro please help me out im new to this stuff could you recommend a cheap soldering thingy? idk even know what they are called, but it looks like you used 3 different things, one to desolder, one for heat, and one for the gooey stuff
One question sir , is by changing switch will remove my problem? My problem when u it will become uiop:/ and if u press backspace it will backspace+enter.
Great vid thank you! I got a nice Corsair keyboard that I have waiting for me to one day desolder the switches that I spilled coke on. I take care of my stuff but this was a freak accident.
I didn’t see anyone else mentioning how pretty your hands are… I’m an artist and missed half the video the first time I watched it just staring at your hands 😂
I have an nk87 that i just built and i tested it on a switch hitter and all the keys come up green but for some reason when i try to remap them the switch doesnt come up if u have any idea i’d appreciate it
I used a solder sucker and a soldering iron. You can buy a cheap soldering kit from walmart or amazon to do the same repair, you don't need the tools I've used, they just help make it easier.
What are the names of the tools that you use to brake the welded pin and the mini welder? I have a non hot swappable keybord and fck it up a lil bit trying to swap it. Now I have to fix it or either way being lazy and buy another keybord
There are some keyboards that are hot swappable but the type in this video have to be soldered in. You can buy a very cheap soldering set on amazon and with a little trial and error you can replace a switch for cheap.
can i change the switch of mu black widow tournament edition? its not swappable my daughter poured lots of powder in it now it gets stuck every time i push it
While it should be possible, Razer uses their own proprietary switches and I don't believe they sell them separately. There's ebay sellers that sell compatible ones but I doubt they're authentic.
I'm not sure about that, i've only ever swapped like for like. You can usually find used switches on ebay that come from the same keyboard for fairly cheap.
Do you need solder them back? Will they work if you remove every solder and just put the swithces in? Switches got pins which are holding them to keyboard already...
@@idoesstuff1 How then hot swappable switches work? Aren't they just without solder? Aren't you afraid that you could pull out the contact leg of the switch when you use that unsolder?
@@idoesstuff1 Ahhhh... Thank you man for this. I ordered K6 keychron without hot swappable siwtches not knowing at the time I thought mechanical keyboards by default have swappable switches. Now mz khalil box ones are destined to collect dust...
@@idoesstuff1 I was a bit nervous about getting a soldered mechanical keyboard, because I may have to change the switches at some point. I appreciate the confidence boost. You make it look pretty quick and painless! (hopefully I like the stock switches though)
iam here because i just bought new switches for my rk61 thinking it is hot swappable... it turns out that i bought the old one which is the non hotswappable variant hopefully iam not the only one
@@idoesstuff1 😂 sorry dude i panicked yesterday on my keyboard, i meant to say i pulled the switches now i tried to put it in without soldering and it just wont fit
