That video counts the views up until now, not only in that specific years. Eg. BTS views didn't really have a lot of views back in 2013, it just increased so much over the years

EXO and Red Velvet’s discographies are god tier. I can only say views does not mean quality, there were a lot of great songs released but they didn’t make it to the list.

it would be cool to see a different compilation of the songs that were actually the most viewed/most popular that year, since this one is using current rates (from when the vid was made) and listing them in the year they came out. It's not super common, but there are many cases in which a song will go viral years after its release and people go back to watch the old mvs unrelated: why does this vid have so many typos on the artists and song titles lmao

Keep in mind that, the MV views are not counting views from the year it released but at the time the video was created. So they may not be the “most viewed” at the time of release and the numbers were likely much lower. Back in the early 2010s, RU-vid was not the main platform for Kpop MVs and streaming MVs to up the viewcount was not a thing. So for any of those MVs, 100million views is amazing because that means years after it’s initial release, people are still watching/listening to it. There are groups who made huge impacts in the Kpop industry who don’t have hundreds of millions of views on their MVs. It doesn’t mean they weren’t popular or good songs, it just wasn’t a thing to stream the latest release to up the viewcount. Like BTS’ MVs, they likely weren’t in the top 10 in 2013-2014, those views came in after they blew up and hit international success a few years later.

Psy is a huge star in Korea and he was famous way before Gangnam Style became a hit. He has a lot of serious songs too. Right now he has his own agency with the girl you saw Hyuna signed under him and also Jessi a super famous singer/rapper in Korea. He's doing super well. You can check out some of his other songs you may be surprise !

J Hope and Suga are members of BTS. Both songs in the 2020 list were solo songs released under BTS but they also have solo mixtapes as does RM. J Hope and RM keep the same name but Suga uses the name Agust D as a solo artist. Their mixtapes are awesome, well worth checking out.

Be mindful that many of these videos were not necessarily getting that many views when released. When the artists attained worldwide popularity, the view counts of their MV would simply explode, including their older MVs. This approach basically gives you hints on the latest global phenomena in kpop, since global name recognition would push the RU-vid view counts explosively. This is why you keep on seeing the same groups repeatedly.

In 2016 BLACKPINK debuted with 2 songs "Whistle" and "Boombayah".....and from then they are dominating... even though they are not very popular that time like other old groups. But still they manage to get more views and people started to know them.💖🖤 And blackpink don't get much Comeback but when they did they just killed it

SNSD is the short version of their name in Korean. Usually people call them by their English name, Girl‘s Generation. Also the thing you mentioned asking if those 2011-2012 groups are still around: Super Junior, or Suju for short, is still around. Bigbang also just had a comeback after a lot of years two days ago. For SNSD they‘re on an infinite hiatus. Since they debuted back in 2007, every girlgroup looks up to them. Girl‘s generation are basically the representation of the start of K-pop’s fame. Most of these groups sadly disbanded in the last two years. Nu‘est just recently disbanded after exactly 10 years of their career, which was very sad for all of us. There are barely any 3rd gen girlgroups left too. Shinee is also still around and active. They are literally a HUGE part in the way of the road to fame of kpop. Beast, now named Highlight, also still promotes. Along with 2pm and 2am, that are going strong too.

2NE1 is spelled "to anyone". The girl in the duo Troublemaker is Hyuna. She is also in the normal MV for Gangnam Style, has her own version, and is the one singing Bubble Pop, the song you said was your first. I really recommend listening to more from her. She just doesn't give a single F. Yes, TWICE are more then still just a thing :D There have been collabs between groups, although only for covers as far as I know. Other then that there are sub-units with only part of a groups members, and rather recently new groups were formed out of members from different groups (see SuperM). Yes, Solo is the first solo-song from a Blackpink member. Definitely check out Mamamoo. They are the vocal queens of kpop. JHope and Suga are both BTS members. I'd really recommend you watching the video "kpop songs everyone should know" by flowtaee. It's long but has many songs in it, gives a great overview and some funfacts and jokes on top. Twice is still very much popular in fact they are currently on a World Tour, they had SOLD OUT all their 7 shows in 5 venues in US, their upcoming concerts are also all SOLD OUT - 3 days in Tokyo Dome, Japan as well as their encore concert which will be held in a stadium in the US on May 14 is currently sold out on Ticketmaster. It had over 50K fans in the queue and it's expected to break revenue record among female groups in the country. The also added another date due to very high demand. BTS is definitely worth checking out, they have a golden discography, and have broken through milestones no one has been able to achieve. They come from a very humbled past and have had to work their way to prove themselves as artists and their music is a reflection of them and who they want to be and also an encouragement to their fans to be the best they can be for themselves. BTS is definitely not the typical group in kpop or internationally. They have spoken up against social/societal issues in a time when no one else would. Which is why they gain so many fans despite not having a big company to promote them. Their success is 100% organic aka they have the ability to motivate a massive amount of people to support them. They have made history in korea, japan and US music industries. They have truly grown into a worldwide phenomenon.

okay just to clarify, this video is based on the current views of the mv released on those years(meaning the views that is used is the current view count in 2020 and not the view count on the year it was released). To explain, it means that the mvs there are not necessarily the most viewed song of THOSE years. BTS for example is seen a lot, because they popped off and their fanbase eventually checked out their older stuff, which increased the views and therefore put into top 10 of releases of that year(in this vid). But if it was based on the actual views on that exact year, then they probably wouldn't be in top 10 until maybe 2017 or something, That is why the groups you see are all repeated, they are the groups that are popular CURRENTLY. So take that vid with a grain of salt since it isn't actually accurate. Also if i was gonna introduce EXO and Red velvet, It would be that they are the group with the best discography in kpop. So basically korean hiphop and r&b are kind of separate things than kpop itself (what I mean by kpop is kpop idol groups) but at the same time there is also a lot of collabs between those two worlds so it is getting mixed sometimes. There are kpop idols that for example switched to r&b or krap when they leaved their bands or debuted solo and Zico is one of them (he actually set up his own company). Korean rappers dont really like Idol korean rappers tho but some of them are exceptions and they are really respected (Zico, Bobby, B.I, Gdragon, Mino) If you want to do a korean rap and r&b marathon I would love to give you song recommendations. Girls' Generation (aka SNSD) is still around! They debuted in 2007 and are approaching their 15th anniversary this 5th of August. The members have mostly been working on solo activities and the group hasn't made a group comeback since 2017 (excluding their subunit comeback in 2018), but they're still together. They're basically the TWICE of the late 2000's and early 2010's and are the first female group to formally earn the title of Nation's Girl Group, and I'm pretty sure their music video Gee! from 2009 became the first Kpop music video to reach 100 million views on RU-vid. They're truly iconic and a large percentage of girl groups nowadays look to them as role models and have even had to study them when training :)

Sometimes when you see a group for the first time its either their debut year or its their first biggest biggest hit e.g. Mamamoo or Momoland or iKon or Red Velvet even though they've had big hits before its hard to crack hundreds of millions of views often and also the video has added views long after they've grown in popularity. BTS wasn't the biggest in their debut years, they were definitely a popular rookie group, but still very new - those views are post blowing up and people going back to rewatch.

BTS debuted in 2013 as a hip hop idol group, although since then they have shown their versatility by spanning various genres. Their first MV is No More Dream followed by We are Bulletproof pt 2, both videos are in the top of that year. This top is really up to the full 2019 and the beginning of 2020. The BTS thing twice at the end is because they are two MVs of the same song, so they gave it only one place.

My personal favorite was Lion, but there are a lot of other songs in the catalog that is actually amazing. Soyeon and by extension Miyeon got invited to do a few songs for another Kpop group called KDA as well, who are owned by Riot Games, the game developer behind League of Legends and Valorant. My personal underrated Kpop group with rapping involved is Omega X, with their debut song of the same name being my personal favorite as well.
