The person taking off the mask was Seonghwa’s HALA HALA copy. ATEEZ and HALATEEZ have a few run ins with each other over the course of their lore and MVs.

i love the way you described their music. it's like all of the different sounds put together shouldn't sound good, but it does. they tend to have a lot of antidrops or unexpected sounds in their songs but they always make it sound so good and unique. if you haven't checked out hala hala by them you should!

Someone may have already answered this but the ones in the Black are Ateez from an alternate reality. We lovingly call them Halateez. You get introduced to them in the song HALA HALA

Maybe someone already told you in the comments but they got a huge and interesting lore. The guys w the masks are rebels from a strict government and wanna achieve independence, so they found an artifact similar to an hourglass (i don't remember what it's called, you'll see it in another MVs) that allows them to travel through parallel universes, so they did it and found their selves from another universe (the ones w normal clothes) and ask them to fight with them, and they accept, but the government discovered their plan and captured the "originals" (you'll see them in wonderland MV, when they're trapped) so the ones from the other universe began the rebellion by themselves (you'll see them in guerrilla and halazia). So... basically this was a "little" summary of their lore, i hope it helps you 😅 I love your videos btw, it's like listening to those songs for the first time again discovering new things I didn't notice before ^^

This comeback is one of my favorites from Ateez! I remember this song coming out like it was yesterday.

Also Hongjoong (the captain with the mullet) spells ATEEZ in his rap by beginning the sentence with the Korean letters. First sentence: begins with 에 (E) Second: 이 (I) Third: 티 (TI) fourth: 즈 (Z) that’s how you spell ATEEZ in Hangul: 에이티즈 (he and mingi write their own rap and there are some songs produced and written by hongjoong) ATEEZ ARE JUST INCREDIBLE

I love your reactions so much. You really help me to appreciate all these little technical details so much more. This song for me was one that threw me off so much the first time I listened to it. Like it was epic and the video was amazing but the song needed to marinate a bit for me. Then one day I had it blasting throughout my house from an Ateez playlist and something about it just... wow. It hit so hard. Suddenly I *got* it. Like what they were going for. All the "say my name" sections hit twice as hard as before. And that last drop with the electronic sounding elements added in?? Just... 😳😭 Like even now 2 years and a billion watches later I get goosebumps. I highly *highly* suggest you check out their dance practice for this song too at some point. Like all their dance practices are amazing but the Say My Name dance practice is legendary. The way their moves work with the song is just... it's a masterpiece.

Welcome to Ateez-they never stick to just one genre but somehow make it all work. This song is meant to feel like a modern pirate jig. The choreo at times mimics a pirate jig.

They are anti-main stream in kpop. Their songs are so "ateez style". Also their rap flow are so unique

Yeah the last line ( "이제 새로 태어난 My mind"/Now a new born, my mind) is a bad translation. Korean to English is a pain because English doesn't behave the same way AT ALL and it's worse when you mix the two. 새로 태어난 _can_ mean "new born" but in this context (with 이제, now), "reborn" or "born again" is more accurate. There's no actual verb in the line and it ends with English, so it's either just describing a noun - "My now reborn mind" - OR the implied verb is "is" (a suffix on "mind" which English doesn't do; missing 'is" is VERY common in kpop) which would be "Now reborn is my mind". Personally I'd translate it as "My mind is now reborn" or "Now my mind is reborn" to avoid the direct translation awkwardness.

say my name is ateez's first comeback after pirate king, thats y I think the song is basically talking about how they want rise as idols and you should call their name (like in concerts) and continue to like search them up, they actually did rise in popularity cus of this song The volume thing in the bridge I believe only happens in the MV, if you listen to it on spotify or the like u won't hear it then, I'm not sure as to why though, it may have been done in the MV for effect or jus a mistake, IDK Also the one who took off the mask was seonghwa The say my name part was I believe a mixture of some of the deeper members' voices from what I heard, I amn't really sure tho
