Producer Breaks Down: ATEEZ "Say My Name" MV 

In the show "Codename is ATEEZ", Hongjoong described his and Mingi's rapping style as Tom&Jerry which I totally agree with. The contrast of their tone is heavy but not too prominent that it might feel like they're competing within songs. Their verses always musically complement each other and I was actually shocked at how they always seem to manage to pull that off. Makes their music more alive, idk if anyone know what I'm trying to say lol.

Hongjoong(the androgynous mullet) is also the leader of the group and writes their songs. Overall it is an impressive comeback

HALA HALA Performance video?

Let me just say right off the bat before I get a thumbs down from anyone -- I think Ateez is *monstrously* talented and they're going to have a very strong debut year. (This breakdown was awesome, by the way! I like the added bits of texts explaining different film production terms people may not be familiar with!) But can people *FINALLY* stop spamming PD about them in every video, post, tweet, stream, etc? That's why the Stray Kids "Get Cool" reaction got axed you know -- on twitter they said people went too far and "breached personal boundaries" asking for the video. So now no one gets to see it. Patience is an essential skill to learn, y'all!

ok so - hongjoong (1998) is the leader of ateez. hes the “high rapper” and the guy you said was your favourite and caught your eye first. - seonghwa (1998) is the blonde member. hes the eldest in the group. - yunho (1999) is the member who was sitting on the chai in the scene. in this song he didn’t get a lot of lines but he’s the main dancer. he has black hair and looks a little bit like exos chanyeol?? - yeosang (1999) is the guy in the pre chorus at the front - san (1999) is the “zico” guy with the red streaks - mingi (1999) is the deep rapper member. you said he looks intimidating but offstage he’s literally a huge puppy - wooyoung (1999) idk how to explain him. some people say he looks like jimin? hes the one with like the silver purple tinted hair - jongho (2000) hes the youngest member and the vocalist who’s voice was really high in the pre chorus. hes main vocal

Regarding the vocals and the rappers I totally agree with you. Hongjoong, the higher pitched rapper is INSANELY talented. In the live stages he rlly has an outstanding stage presence, I'm always blown away by him. He's my bias for exactly that reason. Mingi is the rapper with the deeper voice. When I first listened to and watched some of their songs hongjoong and mingi stood out to me the most. Now the vocal that with the insanely high voice also stood out to me alot, especially after I watched some Mr removed stages. You could hear that he always slayed the notes perfectly and his mic was rlly loud. Amazing vocal

PD, you are doing yourself a great disservice by not at least listening to Pirate King or HALA HALA, especially in context to the partnering songs. You're basing all information on an incomplete picture. Treasure and Pirate King are two sides of the same coin. Same for HALA HALA and Say My Name, the are both concepts of duality and what one finds to be important to the world and what one finds important to ones self.

Well technically Pirate King was their debut song not treasure (at least they promoted that on the music shows) and it goes pretty damn hard (harder than say my name) but overall it was still a banger comeback and I’m so excited to see them growing (hopefully)! At the end of the mv you can hear a couple of keys from Treasure and it's all intentional. Hongjoong (leader, composer and the high pitch rapper) talked about it in the behind the scenes and he said it's because Say My Name and Treasure are connected and Say My Name is before in the storyline. I really love all these small details!

The rapper with the low voice is Mingi, and he's actually the biggest fluffball, not intimidating at all. The other rapper with the higher pitch is Hongjoong, he's the leader of the group. The one you pointed out for his high notes and strong vocals is Jongho, the maknae. He's known for splitting fruit in two while singing beautifully, he went viral for that. For the other members, the one with the blond hair is Seonghwa, the boy in the box is Yeosang. The one you said looks like Zico is San. The one with the grey hair is Wooyoung, and the last member is Yunho, also with black hair. ^-^

Every time I watch the mv I try to figure out if they’re going from the black to the normal clothes/identities or the other way around. But I still haven’t figured it out tho I wanna say it’s black to regular. Speaking of, you missed what I think is an important shot concerning this: the one where San (the one with the mirror fragments) looks into the mirror and the reflection is himself in the black outfit. Also relevant is that Say My Name is the prequel to treasure/pirate king, thus the messy room with the desk, which has a compass on it.

Hongjoong is the high pitch rapper, he is also the leader. Seonghwa is the blond boom shell 😘 Yunho is our dancing king, the taller member who is in the centre in the first chorus (black hair). Yeosang in our visual king, the one whos in the centre in the pre chorus. San is the one with the red highlights, also a vocalist king. MIngi is the rapper with the deep voice. Wooyoung is the main dancer with the silver hair. Jongho is the power house vocal maknae 💪🏽

He has so much visual potential but I feel like stylists don't do a good job with him, though I'm digging the red hair: totally suits him.
